Lucky, all the chickens spawns are farmed for me, so can't even get anything...
For those having difficulty - particularly without a mouse and keyboard. It's possible on a controller even without the gunglitch, but it certainly is a lot more interesting.
A great tactic to use (aside from try not to miss) is to save the single chicken who always runs around if you think you're going to lose your multiplier. He respawns after a while, but don't shoot him as soon as you see him.
If it has been ten seconds or so and you haven't killed one of the chickens on the posts, THEN shoot the lone chicken to save your multiplier.
Hope this helps.
PS: Another great strategy, as previously mentioned, is to track in front of one of the ranchers.
Yeah... I hate this challenge. It used to be fun in Alpha, then they changed it and made it really horrible. We all gave feedback about it, but looks like nothing has changed. The chickens appear for one second before being snatched up. Sure it may be *possible*, but its simply not fun at all.
You need to conserve your ammo, don't shoot unless you're sure you'll hit it. Don't hit the ranchers either, they lower your points with -3 each time. The rest is up to your skill, really.
Trying to get gold on this trial was the first of two occasions I've actually ragequit this game :p Got it in the end though!
chickens spawn - hehe, Im sorry that sounds funny to me.
I have to agree with the advice to follow ahead of the bandits. Although you never need to choose just one - you can easily bounce ahead of each of them (I usually try to stay ahead of the two that will be running in the same direction. Less chances for snags that way.)
I will add, the group of chickens that spawn on the ground really seem like a false-bonus. I ignored them because most of the time, aiming at that small of a moving target caused me to miss.
Thank you for the advice given in this topic. It really helped me complete this successfully.
No this challenge is bs. This is the only one I get stuck on and cant get past bronze.
This challenge is a joke for me too. My main issues are that i'm on Xbox. Looking at the PC video posted here i can see a big difference. The aiming reticule on console is bigger than on PC and is bigger than the chicken. What I find is that sometimes you can aim at a chicken whilst zooming in,the reticule will turn red an you'll fire and the bullet will still miss. That's a right pain.
With regard to the chickens spawning in front of a farmer I can see that but often that doesn't seem to happen consistently, with a couple spawning in front of one and then it switching to another. I also unluckily found that when following the two farmers that run round together the chickens kept spawning ahead of the second farmer, but they were then obscured by the farmer just ahead of him. It gives you a risky split second to fire your shot off between the two farmers.
I can see that this challenge is possible but a lot of it is the luck of the spawns, and with the controller sensitivity not being perfect it is too infuriating. When you have only a split second to line up an awkward shot its hard enough but then your shot misses despite being aimed correctly :S
I think the irritation factor of this challenge alone deserves a rethink and a re-balance. I would prefer totally random chicken spawns than this pattern of spawning two paces ahead of one of three farmers. It's just obnoxious and a bad design choice in terms of the nature of the difficulty.
I'm also getting rather frustrated with this one, but ive been wondering if the skill points you level guns up with (pistol) have any effect on this challenge? ie if i level up more with this gun type will it make aiming any easier?
I'm currently uploading a video in 1080p that will show you the simplest way to complete Resevoir Chickens legitimately. It'll take about half an hour to upload. In fact I expect this method will be patched due to its simplicity.
I finally figured out how to do this without cheating...
Here are some things you should know...
- There is no time limit, it ends when you run out of ammo not time
- At any point in time if you lose your multiplier you have lost the round.
- The key isn't to quickly kill them, it's to pace your shots so the multiplier stays up.
- The only time you kill quickly is when the group with the green chicken spawns.
- The multiplier lasts about 10 seconds so kill at least 1 per 10s to avoid the reset.
- Conserve bullets until the larger group.
- Your bullets are worth more at the end (multiplier of 30x)
Don't start killing until the 1stgroup of chickens spawn.
Kill as many as you can to raise your multiplier then go for the green for bonus points.
Once the group disappears slowly kill chickens (to keep your multiplier from resetting).
You are trying to keep your multiplier up until the next big group.
Thus take your time, aim and kill only a few until the next group.(1 every 10 seconds)
Once group spawns kill as many as you can and go for green near the end for bonus again.
If you do i right by the 2nd time your multiplier should be around 20-30.
That's 30 points per chicken.
Now as you slowly kill them you rack up tons of points per kill.
That's why I told you to conserve your ammo, it's worth more towards the end.
As your multiplier continues to grow you should easily be able to top 500.
If you have good aiming skills 700 will be easy to get if you do my strategy.
If you still find it difficult I recommend leveling your pistol.
Doing so will give you bonuses to reduce recoil, and reload time.
This will help you to kill things quicker.
Oh last thing... When you do have to reload make sure its done right after you kill a chicken.
You'll need that time to reload to keep your multiplier from resetting.
Doing this I was able to beat it with a pistol, no cheats.
It's hard as hell but with practice you can get it.
Remember, don't rush, time your shots.
You did watch the video just above your post right?
How is your method any easier then "Just shoot the chicken on the ground in front of you 68 times." I mean if you want to mix it up you can "Shoot the chicken in front of you, shoot one off the fence, repeat."
And shooting at the cluster of chickens that spawn is the worst advice anyone can give. This "cluster" is a distraction. It's an ammo waster. Like you said "there's no time limit." There's no need to shoot at "moving targets" and waste ammo when you have other chickens standing absolutely still for you.
In my video you can literally complete the challenge blindfolded without cheating.
As I said, I beat it without cheating. Your method is obviously an exploit since that chicken isn't supposed to spawn in the same location over and over again. Any idiot with no skill at all can do that. Once they fix that bug and reset the reward for those that used exploits you will actually have aim and kill the chickens that spawn in various locations. At that point in time you'll actually have to use my strategy to get gold or else it will be extremely difficult.
My apologies. You have WAY more faith in Trion then I care to comment on if you think they will rollback a chicken hotshot for shooting one chicken 68 times. Furthermore, this is not even how I completed the challenge to begin with. If this chickens respawn time were reduced you can simply "Kill the chicken on the ground, kill one on the fence, repeat" (like I already said.)
I'll also mention (again) that "Shooting at the cluster of chickens that spawn is the worst advice anyone can give for this challenge" It is literally doing the complete opposite of what you're trying to achieve. Aiming at "running chickens" is not advice its sabotage. It's bullets wasted. Especially when there's perfectly good chickens roosting on that fence.
I got gold on my second try doing the following.
1. Ignore the massive herd of chickens that spawn, with the green one being the exception or if you are dangerously close to losing your multiplier.
2. Save the lone chicken that stands in one spot for multiplier purposes.
3. Pay attention to the pattern of chicken spawns: they spawn every two perches so you can get the jump on them before the farmer can.
4. Always aim down the sights, never put your gun down. Don't stress over a few missing chickens - accuracy is more important, and maintaining your multiplier using the aforementioned strategies ensures you aren't rushed.
5. Don't miss. That one is easier said than done.
Hope this helps. I find the mission boring and dull, regardless of the difficulty. Seems a filler mission, nothing more.
Edit: nevermind, the video on page 6 gets it done.
I would have never cleared this one if not for the bug.
You have a set number of shots and infinite time. Hit with every shot take your time.
I didn't read every post so i don't know if it was mentioned before but check the OP in this thread :
http://forums.defiance.com/showthrea...rvoir-Chickens
follow it and you'll get gold in no time.
You don't even need to shoot chickens off the fence in that above guide. Just look at the video on Page 6. You can shoot the same chicken over and over without moving your cross-hairs until you finish the challenge (^_^)v
It is possible to achieve gold rank on this challenge without exploitations. All it takes is timing and a bit of accuracy. I have not achieved gold however when I achieved Silver rank had I not shot one on the ranchers by accident I would have made gold. But still it is possible, you just have to give it a few go's. Keep your multiplier up by spacing your kills when only a few are available, spam hip fire on the waves (with caution of course) and for goodness sake don't shoot the ranchers.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXfVwmSBZco here's a good video on how to get gold. It usually take awhile before your multiplier reset so time yourself with each shot and you should get gold from just killing the chicken the video states. I try this and got silver the first time and second time I got gold with 8 bullets left. Hope this helps.
I still haven't beaten this myself. Just so very, very annoying.
The chicken that used to spawn in one spot, now spawns in different locations, including at your feet and behind you. The chickens on the post don't spawn 2 posts ahead of the farmer anymore, it spawns only one post ahead in most cases. Might be lag, but not on my part as I have a screaming computer and cable internet.
Finally, you can have your crosshair right ON the chicken and STILL miss. lol
I have had my target red and centered on a chicken, shot and missed. Shot again and MISSED again and finally took a last shot, never once moving my hand and HIT the chicken. :/
*scratches head*
I don't know what worries me more...
The fact that I remember this necro'd thread...
Or the fact that I'm positive I had a post that appears to be suddenly missing from it...
I had a pretty good post about how to do this hotshot (sans 'sploits) somewheres too, and now advanced searching "chicken" turns up nothing. :(
*shrug* Maybe my search-fu is weak.
I used a grenade on the big packs- and don't shoot the guys
