FIX: Defiance Service Unavailable/Critical Error (PC)
For those of you stuck hitting "Try Again" on the splash screen:

    1. Make a DMZ: Some have claimed that DMZ-ing your PC will let you into the game.
Instructions on how to do this can be found here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/de...-to-make-a-dmz

    2. Use a free VPN For those of you on a university network (like me) DMZing is not an option. Download a free VPN (I used Private Tunnel) and then try connecting. This is how I was able to bypass the error after being stuck since launch.

    3. Call your ISP In another post, Ryl claimed that he was able to bypass this error by calling his ISP and having them change his security settings to low.

While all of these solutions are only temporary bandaid fixes, they may help you get in game for now. Note that all of these solutions also increase your PC's vulnerability to outside threats, so use them at your own risk.

Hope this helps someone, I'll see you all in game.

If any of these fixes work for other people, it would be good to know that they work for someone other than me XP

I haven't tried the DMZ thing because I don't know enough info about my router to follow those directions (TBH, I haven't bothered to go upstairs and try and find it - got a headache). However, wouldn't disabling firewall do essentially the same thing? From what I gather, the DMZ solution would solve the problem if the game is being "blocked," so wouldn't disabling firewall act as the same solution? I disabled my AVG and firewall and gave it a go, and it did not help. I still have the same problem. If I already tried disabling my firewall, should I bother trying the DMZ solution?

If you aren't comfortable doing the DMZ, the easiest fix here is to download Hotspot Shield or VPN One Click (or your own favortie VPN). Those two are free and don't have a data cap. I'm using a VPN because I don't have access to my router (fckn college...)

-Also:For those of you who played beta, make sure you uninstall the beta client and download the live one. (Though I'm sure most ppl have done this already, doesn't hurt to check :P)

PS: If one of these fixes does work for you, please just reply with a quick "It worked!" so that this thread will stay on the front page where other people can find it.

It's quite possible that you have a situation similar to myself. Your Router / Modem may have a firewall feature on it as well. Disabling the firewall in windows, or even opening all the ports there won't help if your router is still blocking the communication. Yes, a DMZ or VPN will most likely fix your issue as you are basically then bypassing the hardware's firewall feature (masking it rather). I turned my routers firewall off, if you're not able to do that, such as some have mentioned being at university or the like, Keatts suggestions might just fit the bill.

Have you ever been able to log in to the game at all?
    And did you play beta?
