Same here. From "it's cheap, it's fun, just don't buy the season pass with the game" to "just don't buy the game".

Which is the reason I warned scapes and kiwi about using the therm "New Player Experience" when referring to DCL 5. That is not an association you want to have with Defiance right now. Truth be told, SWG was in trouble before NGE hit. That update pretty much kicked it the rest of the way down.
And woot - I got 50 points, too! Of course I should have had about 95,000, but I had to extract upteen times before the end of the thread.
The new patch is annoying but doable, the thing that really gets to me is the write off of all my hard earned Legendary weapons.
Here is an Idea to make Legendaries even more attractive as the best weapon in game. Let them be the only weapons that auto-levels with you, Old Legendary weapons scale to within 100 ego points of your current ego and keep auto-leveling with you. New Legendaries auto-level with your exact ego.
Meh its a pipe dream I know, but with Defiance what else do I have left. :(
A gear wipe over time is still a gear wipe.
This is a different game than I paid for. I wish you guys (Trion) had done this change in beta so I could have saved $$ and many hours of my life.
@BJWyler
To be fair 'New player Experience' is actually close to the mark. How many multi-player games do you know that punish the player for playing with others?
I just did the VBI weekly (bunch of radio towers) solo, was incredibly easy threat lvl 1, ego 2200ish. Transported to Iron demon ranch, and volge emergency going on, took a while but were getting through but then OTHER players come to help suddenly threat lvl3 went to 10. Why should i or anyone else play a multiplayer game that actually has you cursing other players for helping?
Remove the scaling! Things are either too damn easy or ludicrously difficult. You alienate new players who try to join new content only to get smothered when high levels try to HELP, and the high players because the only way they can help is by killing things before the low levels die, while at the same time reducing the chance of any reward coming to the low egoers.
Its nice to see some 'new' enemies, so have them in 'high difficulty zones', give them suitable abilities and buffs, but not in areas that are inconveniently close to high player traffic that drastically increases difficulty whenever a 5k+ egoer drives past.
In earlier patches we could at least show up to a siege/emergency/incursion/mission, and have see what enemies were there and decide, 'I can handle this, it should be worthwhile' now though players have to consider if other players will join or not.
Nice, was at a minor arkbrake. Went from 39K points to zip. Like the 4 other people that was there I got trapped on the re-spawn ledge, with like 6 of those volgue boomers/rocketeers steadily bombarding the ledge, so instadied on respawn. I ended up having to close the game, my score was zip so I wasn't out anything.
I have to brake down my best weapons, spent all this time building them up and now I can't clear their master; need 30 arktech I have 0. So bye bye what few good weapons I had. So now not only am I fighting enemies if full body armor and shields, I have to do it with inferior weapons. Nothing more fun then emptying 3, 60 round clips from a purple sub-carbine point blank in to the head of an enemy and not even deplete there shield.
I've said it before, I'll say it again, every time I think they couldn't screw this game up any worse they prove me wrong. The game isn't even worth grinding for rep now. As there is no payout for the grind.
I just don't get how a game developer can so consistently, update after update, make a game worse and worse. I mean they have to be doing it on purpose, you can't get that sort of consistency with out trying.
Lvl 10 threat trigger is set to low and it needs to be raised to idk maybe 10 high ego / 15 low ego at afflicted sieges and 30 ppl at volge sieges.
Oh yeah, I agree. This certainly is a "New Player Experience." I can recall exactly twice thus far when a dev company changed the core foundation of its game. The first one, which we have mentioned, was an unmitigated disaster from start to finish, and why I don't necessarily think its a good thing to have a term that harkens back to that time - despite the fact that the results are pretty much the same at this point.
The other one is FFXIV. They call theirs a Realm Reborn, and was actually a good thing - it made a crap game into something playable and enjoyable (though FF is not really my thing - I have guildies from other games who have played it). Unfortunately, it seems Trion wanted to go in the other direction with Defiance and took a decent concept and game and trashed it.
Maybe SWG and Defiance do have quite a bit in common.
SWG NGE was imo a last ditch effort to save the game, which in the end just hastened it's demise. Maybe this is the same.
Of course SWG NGE wasn't accompanied by a blatant smelly cash grab(I think anyways, again didn't play SWG either i just like reading alot :D)
FF14 had it easy lol the game was so panned and shot down by everyone in it's original form it only could get better.
That's what I am afraid of. I still have the old LA forums bookmarked where the playerbase was "discussing" the NGE, as I recall, the specific thread started shortly before the launch and pretty much goes up to today. Every page you read you can just see another nail going into the coffin. It is quite an interesting bit of history to go back and re-read about those times. And no, it wasn't a cash grab - this was before the time that F2P began to take off in the West.
Surely everyone knows that barrels in video games are a bad thing... And most in portantly DO NOT USE THE BARRELS AS COVER!!! apart from windwaker where they can be used for stealth
The mobs needed a buff but trion have gone wayyy overboard, if they got it right you should be able to have a fun easy time casually killing raiders or seek out the volge for a battle of tactical integrity.
instead what they have done is made enemy's bullet sponges with intense difficulty spikes based on if an arkhunter sneezes within a 10 mile radius.
The difficulty isn't bad when soloing (although the volge are a no go) problem is that
A: a passing player regardless of if they participate or just drive by will raise the mobs level
B: in larger groups of players the mobs overall level seems to raise quicker than that of the players
I do keep meaning to create a new char and try to play this in a borderlands way I.E. chucking guns when they get too low ego and replacing them, also i wanted to test the difficulty properly.
problem is defiance doesn't drop good guns often enough for that play style,
another thing unless they have changed things, at lower levels guns rarely have the all important nanos that are now needed to defeat tougher mobs.
Man, I'd been on a break from Defiance for about a month an then came back to a confusing mess. Since I'm an Alpha player I had an idea of the butt kicking I was gonna get but I figured the problems would be ironed out. HAHAHA!!! I don't think any of my feedback in the Alpha made a hewy of difference. WAAAAYYYY back in 2012 we constantly complained about the messaging system (the BIGGEST complaint of anything else in the Alpha) and they made no attempt to fix until a few months ago and even now it is just acceptable. And what happened to all the emotes?? Why do I now have to type them out? Bring them back and add more!
I really hate this scale system, and as a day 1 player with an EGO of 4700+ I feel a little betrayed by how easy the XP pours in now and how OJ's are dropped or awarded constantly for noobs but rarely for me, I haven't even seen a OJ grenade or shield (I know...insert that little violin here...wait a min, I don't mean THERE....Trion has already wedged itself in THERE)
I do like the "expert" CO-OPs tho. I don't like playing 101 every day, and no matter how long I wait in queue this is the only one ppl seem to play. By the way, sludge rockets work really good on Hulkers. I was surprised by how much they slowed down allowing my teammates to pound them.
Oh well, Ill still be playing though now I wished I would have gotten the Castithan pack instead of the Arktech Revolution. But my wife only allowed me to chose one or the other, complaining I had already spent too much on one game. (this is from a clan leader in Rappelz whos forked over a lot more than I ever will on this game :))
I just hope somehow Trion will listen to players feedback on stuff WE care about, you know, like MS did with Windows 8, or Xbox One.
