    How Many Others Besides Me?
I’ve been around since day one (a Veteran if you will). Heck, I’ve been here since early Alpha and Beta! I’ve lost all my in-game friends that were here at the release of Defiance; I guess they moved on. Over this past year, I have seen a lot of faces; some never stay more than 3 months. And with this F2P movement, there will be a “flood” more of new people, whether they stay or go, that’s up to them. What I am trying to say is that I feel like a dying breed of “Day-Oners”(guess I'm just sentimental that way). So I would like to pose this question: Is there still anyone out there that have been playing since day one(or at least since April 2013), and if so, how many are we? (If you are still hanging in there and believe this game will improve; cheers.)

(I'm not looking for flames nor am I trolling, I'm just a somber player looking for the one's who, like me, never gave up.)

You are not the only one. I've been around since the Beta. I took a break for a while playing other games but i still cant help but come back. Even with all the issues I still enjoy the game and play now play regularly again.

I bought the game from a local game shop 3 days before it's official release, and tried to play it every few hours.
Managed to play it 2 hours before the servers were meant to be online at midnight, although I managed about 20 mins of play time only, due to disconnections.
I've had 3 different characters, due to disliking the name and look of the 1st, random deletion of my second(high ego) and now on my 3rd, about ego 600 :(
I've seen vast improvements, and some major setbacks too, as a true veteran, I played the game, joined a clan, but I knew nothing about Defiance twit/facebook/this forum for about a year, due to playing the game, and caring nothing for the "community" of other players, i think the only way the whole community thing would work better, is if there was a central hub, where players could get together, plan arkfalls, share weapons, in a place where you don't get kicked out by servers, or know you're about to be attacked.

Until that moment, i'll contribute to my clan, but I'll be a lone wolf in terms of being sociable with other players in-game :)

I'm basically going to carry on playing, and see what happens when season 2 is released, what new things are added, and...well unless the game servers are closed, I know that no matter what I say, i'll keep on coming back to Defiance, it's addictive.

I've been around since this game's second week, we are a dying breed of players.

I'm going to be leaving once F2P comes out. Unless Trion gives us vets what we deserve.

And I know for certain that 7/10ths of this games playerbase will go to Destiny this fall, I asked in game last month in zone chat and got hundreds of replies saying "Destiny will overkill Defiance".

But I hope that those who stay a good time.

perhaps, but then that would mean less defiance players = more stable servers due to less strain on them?

    Day one player here.
    Still play.
Still love the game in spite of it's management.

    Still hanging on
I have played since day 1. There are things that need improvement but the game has provided me with many hours of entertainment (and frustration).

I have been here since Beta. I have long ago surrendered any hope that Defiance's biggest problems, that have also been here since then, will ever get fixed.

I will continue to play as I STILL enjoy completing Arkfalls with my fellow Arkhunters, but my avatar should say all there is to say about what I believe Defiance's future holds.

The game feels like it has been a "back-burner" project/product since launch. My feelings about it fall more in the area of disappointment than resentment. This game is like if Will Hunting decides to stay a janitor/laborer at the end of the movie.

What're you guys, on drugs? The game never left beta testing! That's why there's the alpha server for upcoming additions to the beta! Any word on a final release?

This is a perfect description of my sentiment as well. There are people like me, and the others in this thread, that love this game. Unfortunately, the people that NEED to love this game have treated it like a red-headed step-child.

Been here since about three weeks after launch. It's been a long, bumpy ride. There's just something about this game that I love. On a positive note, it is so much easier to get great oranges now than when I started playing a year ago. I think I've played this game more than all other console games I've ever played, put together. And I'm not a young man, by any means- I've been playing console games since the Atari and Intellivision. I am hopeful for the immediate future of this game.

Still here, been a long bad winter and not able to play as much as I liked with the gang. When we do it still cuts us off as much as it did. Hanging on for the second season to see if things change or gets worse.

Same here. I have even gotten some of those absent friends to come back with the knowledge that it's going free to play. Not sure why that did it but it did. LOL

Day one-er/preorder. Though i admittedly tend to play off and on, generally when one of the dlc gets released or a major patch.

Keep returning for reasons i can only laugh at.

Interesting thread. I'll do something I normally don't do, tell some history about myself.

Before Defiance was released I had read about it and thought the concept was interesting. Not the typical game created or inspired by a movie or show, but rather with the intention to work closely and in conjunction with a show. I thought it had so much potential.

So I picked up the game at the local game store about the 2nd or 3rd day after release, so while I'm not a "day one-er" I'm close.

I'm not a huge gamer, and by that I simply mean that I don't purchase many games. I'm very picky about what I choose to spend money on, and more importantly what I choose to spend my TIME on. To give you an idea of my gaming experience and how many games I've purchased in the last 20 years or so, keeping in mind that I've played games since my Atari 2600, which I still have in a box and it still works believe it or not. Here's a rough list and it's mostly in chronological order:

    Gemstone III (text based MUD)
    Xcom (the original)
Almost all of the Bio-Ware AD&D games (Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape Torment, etc)
Everquest (The last Sony product I have ever purchased, their rootkit debacle caused me to boycott ALL things Sony)
City of Heroes (played it from beginning to end, was sad to see it shut down)
UFO Aftermath (an Xcom inspired game)
    UFO Aftershock (a sequel)
UFO Afterlight (a sequel to the sequel)
Champions Online (It's the only Super Hero MMO out there that I can play currently)
    Defiance
Rift (Mainly out of a desire to support Trion, I normally don't like the heavy loot based grindy nature of Sword and Sorcery type MMOs, and Rift is no exception. I play it sporadically)
    Xcom (The new one)

As you can see that's around 20 years of games, which would indicate that I purchase about one game a year, give or take. There are a few other games, but nothing really worth mentioning, you know, a game that seemed interesting at the time, saw it for cheap, and it ended up being bleh.

So, now that I've covered all of that, folks might get a better understanding of the fact that I really do want Defiance to succeed, mainly because I tend to be a loyal customer. I want to get my money's worth, but even more importantly I want to get my TIME's worth.

I put time and money into Defiance, so I would really like for Defiance to do well, because doing well means they throw more resources and funding into it, thus making it even better. If the game just goes downhill, it's not just simply a matter of me bailing the sinking ship onto the next new shiny because I will lose my invested time in the process, and I hate feeling like I've wasted my time.

I've been around since mid-late april early may and I think it's a great game besides the server issues. I enjoy the increased cap and the damage scaling on higher ego weapons. I took a hiatus for 8 months and in the ~2 months that I've been back I've managed to go from prepatch weapons to everything I want from loot drops and/or trading. Trion just needs to get the servers in order and fix bugs.

I'm still here since the PS3 beta, though for how much longer is in doubt. There was a time when the game was a fun escape, and I knocked off all the original and episode pursuits, plus the first DLC ones. Once they started to add pursuits that required getting gold on co-op arenas that have no way to get matched up with "randoms" and launched the ridiculous bullet-sponge DLC, my interest took a huge hit.

I'd still be interested in playing to see how things will connect with the show, but with a PS4 now and a backlog of free PS+ games on PS3 to play, I tend to only log in to Defiance about once a week to see whether the broken DLC #5 mechanics have been improved/fixed. At this rate, I don't see my interest lasting beyond Season 2 of the show, if that long.

    Pre-ordered.
    Played the Beta.
    Day one player.
Mostly played by myself until about 6 months ago, then hooked up with a group of in game friends.
    Still play almost everyday.
Also play on the Alpha server when it is up.
Still love the game even with the problems.
Still have some hope that things will get better.

    Launch day/beta tester.
Played pretty heavy up to DLC3, that ................ ended it for me. Last night I did a complete fresh install of Defiance and thought I'd give it a try again, check out the new stuff.
Still heavy lag and Dc issues..... that issue is a dead horse that was beat into dust a long time ago.
Not impressed, not wasting anymore time, effort, frustration, or cold hard cash on Trion anymore.

Took them until dlc 5 to do stuff we had been asking for since day 1, and they called it paid content. That was almost as painfull a kick in the balls as DLC3's "paid content".

They turned this into a grind fest of repeatable daily rep faction quests, same reason i quit WoW so many years back.

Later all see ya on the next venture.

Played since beta (PC EU), had a break around 4 months in Desember untill the middle of April.
When i took the game up again i joined a clan and loved the changes in difficulty.
One of my reasons taking my break was that the game felt very easy, and i had nearly completed all pursuits.

Im not planing to quit :)

Started in May 2013, I have not taken a break & play most days if I can, I love the concept of the game & the new scaling. I find it frustrating the way the enemy just double or triple up. I look forward to a patch that will make the game play fair, as it is now its a mess

Despite all the problems with the scaling, the missed opportunities at world building, and a poor handling of the game and playerbase by Trion's upper management*, I still love the game itself and the concept behind it. A Game and Show developed and intermingled together? It's amazing.

*Yes, I blame all this at the feet of the upper management. Part of their job is to make sure the people in charge of a project actually do their job and to ensure the support of the paying customer for future profits if nothing else.

I haven't played since launch but shortly after. I too have had my issues with the game with the stuff that gets ignored like PVP and the bugs that take forever to get fixed. I stay because I do love this game warts and all and there is nothing like this.

Played the 360 & PC beta... and decided, even though it was very ugly in comparison, to get the 360 version.
My longest break was like 3 weeks over Christmas.
I promised myself I'd stop playing after the DLC achievements were done; ok, after I get to max EGO at 5000; ok, after I max all my weapon skills out; ok, after I do all the pursuits; ok, after I get to the new max EGO; ok, definitely after I finish the Chimera rep achievement.....

Damn it, I can't stop myself!

May 2013, forums one month later. First MMO ever. Casual but obsessive. Almost never a shooter.

Joined a Borg clan. It sucked, I quit. Joined an intimate clan. It rocked. They all quit.

Talked into helping to found the Dawn Patrol. Only reason I haven't quit.

6 month ESO delay = crushing console peasant depression.

Defiance = tiresome job w/ people you love.
