I hope "Score" is actually a placeholder for something else. Score should be about bragging rights and a reflection of your playing ability, and not something directly boostable with your wallet.
No they do mean score, increasing score determines key rewards, and lockbox tier.
I figure it probably does indeed mean score, which makes me groan. I know what it affects. But I stick with my point that a scoreboard should be about bragging rights, and you can throw that away the moment you can pay real money to get a higher score (directly).
IMO, a damage boost would make much more sense so a lower ego player really could keep pace with a higher (unboosted) ego player.
i hope the people that buy that score boost also find their death tax boosted.
Yeah, I agree that a bit purchase to boost score is not a good thing. The leaderboards will no longer be a reflection of how well you did, thus making it difficult to see which methods are more effective in certain events.
Well what happened to the loot boost? Our clan had several days of loot boost on, and now it's GONE. Stolen bits. Anyone else have this issue?
Ima start a thread about that.
Loot has been changed to salvage?...Is this true?. That would be the stupidest thing i have heard , that takes away our choice to sell our increased loot and salvage is the most worthless thing in the game right now. I was just thinking why would anyone buy a boost to worthless salvage when i read that post. How the hell can they take away loot boost , its almost as if they sit around thinking of ways to screw us.
Uhum, they removed loot boosts and added salvage boosts. Silly but alright.
Changing running boosts though is bad, that's like giving someone coffee when he orders a tea and expecting to be paid.
I personally don't buy any boosts but I hope the bits will be refunded for the ones that had loot boosts running.
Yep. The loot boost we had several days left, paid for. I paid for one day, and our clan founder is fond of buying a week at a time. That's kind of a lot of bits. Boost is GONE. Started a thread about it. Also PM'd Kiwi & Scapes.
Basically it's STEALING. And they need to fix it NOW. Either return the bits or transfer to the new lame salvage boost.
A more appropriate boost would be "Rewards" not "Score".
This way the leaderboard would not be affected by real money purchases, but the rewards would be higher for a lower score. (For example: If 50K score gets 10 keys and a #19 on the leaderboard, then a 10% boost to Rewards would be 11 keys and a #19.)
As it sits, if a score boost can affect the leaderboard ranking, then this is the most pure version of pay-to-win I've ever heard of.
A Score Boost? You have got to be kidding me.
You can now Buy your way to an increased score?
LOL
So buy your way to the highest tier loot - Check.
Buy your way to the best score - Check.
How is any of this NOT pay to win?
You guys are just sad Trion.
Winning in most traditional sense would be simply having a greater score than everyone else - regardless of the Trophy at the end; whether or not you feel the Trophy is shiny enough is irrelevant.
A Score boost has got to be the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of - and if someone were to want to clearly define Pay To Win it would be the most apt example I have seen to date in any game.
Interesting. I've noticed an increase in loot drops on the ground recently. I wonder if they just upped it permanently when they got rid of the loot boost? I mean, I even looked to see if there was loot boost active and there wasn't. Now if only stims would drop again…
Welcome to F2P.
I always have Pinata perk equipped for my general running around so loot is still dropping for me. It is also possible that even though our active clan loot boost is gone from the menu, it might still be active. I didn't notice less loot on the ground last night then usual. Didn't notice the missing boost from the menu until I was about to log off.
Ability to exploit the mechanics:
Like Michael Jordan was able to "exploit the mechanics" of basketball?
Like Ken Jennings was able to "exploit the mechanics" of Jeopardy?
Like that one guy everyone knows is able to "exploit the mechanics" Monopoly?
Your statement can be made about any event where a score is kept.
I'd like to hear your example of a game where a score kept is irrefutably NOT an exhibition of the player's ability to exploit the mechanics.
Nope
Only if you engage in equivocation.
Basketball, Jeopardy and Monopoly.
It may be different for you, but most players who look at scores are falsely equating it to contribution to the event. If it's anything but that then it's kind of stupid to look at score as any kind of bragging right. What are you bragging about then? The ability to leech off of everyone else's damage by maxing out your nano-kills, medic points and then landing a killshot for a disproportionate amount of points on a boss mob that would have died regardless of whether you were there or not?
The score board in Defiance doesn't reflect what many if not most players think it reflects. The scoreboards in things like Basketball and Jeopardy Monopoly under contemporary rules (classic Monopoly is a zero sum game) do. For those who do understand what the Defiance scoreboard reflects, it's not very rational to care about it in terms of bragging rights.
Really, this doesn't bother you on any level? Yes we all know the scoreboard is largely bogus and really gives only bragging rights due to what those scores are really based on. However, it also increases the number of keycodes and other rewards you get. It's an obvious example of P2W, IMHO. No one could deny that.
Incidentally, after a year I STILL enjoy when I see me as #1. It feels cool. But I'm not gonna brag every time it happens, even if I didn't know it's largely due to my educated use of opportunity points, etc.
It will be annoying to see players bragging in zone chat about their purchased #1 scores...I'll have to learn to ignore that.
It doesn't affect my gameplay so I don't care.
I only pay attention to a player's score for two reasons. If it is really low in an event that affects my gameplay (like a co-op map), I take a look at the player's loadout and see if I can help them get a better score based on performance. If it is really high in general, I take a look to see if I can figure out what it is that the player is doing to get such a high score. If it's a damage based performance score, all the better.
Ah, see mostly I only look for my own score and my friends/clanmates. Although I do notice consistent high scorers over time. And then i try to find out what they're doing.
At any rate, I just will have an issue with all the false bravado this may create if it is what it sounds like.
@ Deunan
LOL – thanks for biting!
You think that Michael Jordan irrefutably did not exploit the mechanics of Basketball to allow him to score? He most certainly did. Traveling? Nope – jump farther. He flopped better. He faked better. He scored more because he could exploit the rules of a system better than others.
Ken Jennings – he scored a ton, but why? The rules say answer questions – he did that, however he also rang in early on EVERY question and would sometimes just say nonsense because he didn’t know the answer. The key was he had the first opportunity to answer and if given the first opportunity he would have a great chance of scoring. He exploited the mechanics of Jeopardy.
And if you think I’m giving away my Monopoly secrets, you’re crazy.
Perhaps I should have added a meme to my earlier post:

I couldnt care about the score boost if someone thinks its really going to help them when in my opinion it wont let them buy it. I dont like the fact that they changed loot boost to a completly worthless salvage boost.
Do not like it in any form whatsoever......mess with score .....why bother to play ....
also do not LIKE(at ALL) the new scoring system in dark matter or war master.....you can NOT fathom where your at .... at least the old scoring you could tell if your new tactic was working....
the game is severely damaged and beginning to think it is intentional.......Ruin the game for cheap carnival tricks to make a buck... seems to be the consensus .....
very disappointed and will not recommend as of last Night

I don't like it, but in the grand scheme of Defiance I find I no longer care. There's so much I don't like in this game what's one more? I spend more time in the message board than I do playing the game, and I'm starting to realize what a waste of them that is too.
The scoring system needs to be looked into. Directly killing enemies should count more and causing damage should be taking into account and shown also at the end of score boards. There are to many weapons that can rapidly leech teamwork points for doing absolutely nothing, and by doing so you can easily come in first place by using them.
Does anyone want to take a guess what categories these weapons that do this are from? lol
I'm not sure if I want to call the idea of score boosts "Flagrantly Pay to Win" or "Shamelessly Pay to Win". I'm honestly amazed that Trion thinks they can get away with this (and I even excused the $80 Orange Weapon packs). The backlash if this makes it to live will be an impressive sight.
While they are far too prone to meta-gaming, Scoreboards are essentially the only way to measure one's performance in an event compared to other players. A score boost directly increases our "Playing Skill" as Trion has defined it (as backwards as that definition really is).
Sick of scoring fifth place? Top the scoreboards for the low, low price of $19.99! All major credit cards accepted!
I think this is the case. I completely forgot about your posts on this when I decided to purchase a loot boost and I was getting more loot drops than before. I'm going to submit a support ticket either asking for a bit refund or confirmation that the boost still runs and is just missing from the boost screen. I find if you ask for bits back they respond with something pretty fast even if it's to say your SOL. :p
