Connnecting to friend problem

I am having trouble trying to join a friend who lives in the US when I am in the UK. When we try and search for each other we can't find each other. Now I know that there are seperate servers for both US and EU so Im wondering is there a way to join the US server from the EU one?

In the patcher change your region North America to EU or vice versa, i believe that's how you switch.

Settings -> Region
