Please note that I did not stop the patcher during SpeedTest as many of us have noticed it wont resume downloads, instead it starts again. At my current speed (and havingg been downloading for a couple of days) I couldn't risk it.

[If I use the Little Rock, AR server (which is near me), speed test shows .65 down/.30 up, if that matters at all]

Am on my 3rd try at the download since the game was released. It just started over at at 9:30 pm (central time) - about an hour ago.

I admit my regular speed is not great, but i was able to download Rift the other night at 70.something mb/s. It stopped and restarted a couple of times, but it resumed where it left off (not starting completely over each time as this patcher does).

And here's how things look on the patcher ... (around 10:00 pm central time on 4/3)
    http://starlit-designs.com/patcher.JPG

And here's how things look about 11 hours later on 4/4 am ... (Thank GAWD the patch did not fail while I slept as it did the last two nights)
    http://starlit-designs.com/patcher2.JPG

It just failed AGAIN! (Time 10:45 am central)
    http://starlit-designs.com/patcher3.JPG

    - - - - - - - - - - - -

    !!! IMPORTANT !!!
My download failed at 10:45 am central time (my time). I killed the patcher, shut down Steam and then restarted my machine. When I got back on, I started the download again (for the FOURTH time since April 2nd). THIS time, it downloaded the portion that had been downloaded previously VERY quickly and is now CONTINUING the download RATHER THAN STARTING OVER!

THIS is what I, personally, have been waiting for. I can handle being patient with my slow download as long as I can have some hope that the downloads will CONTINUE from where they left off, if the connection is lost or there is any kind of failure.

OP, the main problem that's still preventing us playing the game is that when this incredibly slow download does complete it fails to install. Can we get an official response on this common error please? Cheers.

Also, why don't you use Steam servers with a basic build and let those of us on it update from you from that?

Download speeds for the client are highly variable. I can get 2MB/s for several minutes, and pulled down half the client in half an hour. Then it stops. It looks like a proxy is blacklisting my IP address, or something similar. If I pause the download for a few minutes and then start it again, it goes at full speed. If I leave my PC unattended, I eventually get 'download error' and it all seems to break down.

I assume you're walking away from your PC while waiting for the download? Ive been writing emails with the client displayed on the side of my screen, and found that the apparent 'install failure' is actually a symptom of an aborted download. If you watch it while doing other things (like I'm doing now), and you pause it for a few minutes when the download rate hits 0, this seems to help.

Of course, I have no guarantee that I'll have a valid download at the end of the process.

And yeah, using Steam to deploy the full client instead of the tiny little stub - that would have been smart.

I've already posted my SpeedNet test, now I wish to post what happens once you have waited a couple of days for the download to complete.

This first one I took shows the client patcher near completion. By this stage I had been downloading for days and, after pumping 10GB in folder "51", it was just completing putting the same amount (and a little more) into folder "52".

    Attachment 994

Then 20 minutes away from completion I get this joy-full little message.

    Attachment 991

After cursing my luck and doing as the error message suggests, I restart the client and begin the "Update" again. I dread the next few minutes as I feel a little DeJa Vu coming over me ...... I couldn't be sure, but I'm sure this happened to me once before when it was working on folder "51".

    Attachment 992

So there are two (2) problems here slow speeds/failed patching.

The images don't look so clear until you blow them up but once you do please notice the Client Patcher version, this has remained the same build number since I first started.
If it's a lack of man power then I am more than willing to look at the code or failing that my six y/o niece is quick proficient in Quick Basic, she could whip something up in no-time.

So it always just fails to complete then. I can't stare at it for 8 hours or more pausing it if it ever hits 0, but thanks for the information. I don't know how I'm ever gonna get this installed right now. I tried changing DNS servers as well. I uninstalled and removed the service. I tried Europe and US options. No alternative source either it seems.

EDIT: I had a closer look and this thing is receiving data much faster than it's claiming. So my only problem seems to be it dropping carrier and not resuming or not being able to complete for some reason.

I want to post this reply in all caps, but its rude to the other readers, but i swear to god this is the absolute worst game release since Anarchy Online.

Can you please make your moronic client installer/downloader RESUME after an ISP drop or pause, like nay other digitally distributed game ? 10-15 gigs and you expect FLAWLESS connections with everyone ?

    This is Trion right ?

You guys released Rift didn't you ?

HOW IN THE F**K DO YOU MAKE A MISTAKE LIKE THIS ?

For all those who will come on and comment on this telling me that it does resume and that what i see is perceived and false.... NO NO NO i have tried to DL this since day one my ISP will kick me after 4 hours, this is expected. what is not expected is having to RESTART the entire DL from the beginning for the 12th time. After 12 attempts i think i have alpha tested this launcher/downloader enough to give an educated deduction.... that is.... ITS A PILE OF CRAP.

    PLEASE FIX YOUR ASSTASTIC LAUNCHER/DOWNLOADER

How does this help me ?

My problem is not a slow download, it is the fact that the crappy downloader/installer will not resume from a disconnect or a pause.

The speed at which i can DL is beside the point of an even more egregious issue.

I started my third downloading session this morning. I'm sure the game has already ceased loading and I'll have to start from scratch a 4th time. I double checked my electronic receipt to make sure I had bought Defiance and not Sim City.

I did not experience this during Beta or Alpha. I do not understand why I can't convert one of those versions to the full game to save patch time.
I will be requesting a refund if I am unable to play this weekend.
    that is all.
