I am very grateful that voice chat is up and running; however, I am still having issues hearing people. I will be happily chatting away with my clanmates when all of a sudden I can no longer hear them. I try typing in clan chat and nothing is visible. The only way to re-establish contact is by completing exiting out of the PS3 and starting again. After 15-20 minutes the pattern repeats itself. I submitted a bug report. I was wondering if anyone else was having the same problem.
This happened to me earlier tonight as well. Talking with a friend in group, all of the sudden we lost mics, but then we switched to private chat and that worked.
This is also one of the bugs with mics that used to happen before too. It did not happen nearly as often before though... and it's been happening to a lot of people I know tonight...
I had this same problem too. In clan chat they could hear me but I couldn't hear them. Switched to group and all was good. Got a dc a few hours later. Again in clan chat, I could hear them but they couldn't hear me. Group chat was still fine.
I had that same bug happen to me months ago with clan chat too. I was new to the game so I could never figure out what the deal was, always used to piss me off.
Yes this bug has been a problem in the past but it much more persistent now. It was not unusual for me to hear one person and not another but this renders me completely without communication.
I have experienced this several times today and have had to sign out and restart my system to make it go away. Once it happened 30 seconds into restart. What I did notice, which may or may not be important information, is that when I lost voice and text chat I was at a Kenn Farm incursion. Strange thing was that all the baddies were running on the spot and the in-game players were hanging in the air with their legs moving up and down. I had to run around to all the baddies and kill them as they never moved; the hulker stood in one spot but was able to kill me several times even though I was visually nowhere near him. It was very strange. This has happened many times to me since the latest patch, especially in Silicon Valley.
Every bug/glitch issue with the game is on the rise again.
Mics are back (sorta) and with their return my friends and I are now getting more lag, DC's and hard freezes. Seems the system just can't handle what is asked of it.
In Motherlode expert co-op last night, 4 of us on mic, not using weird flashy guns, on a fresh game restart, we ALL had that stop-motion lag through the whole thing. It's a wonder we got out alive.
Sorry about the derail...yes mics have returned only to be glitchy and sporadic once again.

It is so frustrating... having to log out, restart, and then log back in
just to hear the people in the clan you see are online playing but couldn't hear prior.
and that is with hopes that when you hear them.. they can hear you..
Otherwise rinse and repeat Log out/restart/log in.. and cross your fingers.
If you do succeed.. let the count down begin..

Last night, 2 times in a row within a few minutes of fresh restart my mic cut out. He could not hear me but I could hear him. According to my friend I was lagging and floating in the air.
We were at Iron Demon, 2 in the group, and I was going to buy an OJ mod for him and trade. The first fresh login, I checked the paradise vendor and immediately my mic cut out. We both restarted our games.
Then the 2nd time, we grouped, he ported to me (as we were in different shards to start grrrrrrrrrrrrr) and then I bought the power bore he wanted. After I handed it to him in trade window my mic cut out AGAIN, where I could hear him and he couldn't hear me. And he said I was floating and lagging again. I fled the game and went to watch TV.
I have a turtle beach wired headset, I don't know what his setup is. And frankly I don't think type of mic has squat to do with the issue.
By contrast, earlier that night I was in a PUG expert co-op - Soleptor. 2 of us had mics the whole time, not sure about the other 2. They were there at first and then gone, don't know if they muted themselves or what.
Was worse than ever last night. Several times I logged in with no voice chat and had to log out. I will be running around shoot baddies with everything going smoothly when all of a sudden my voice chat will cut out and immediately thereafter the baddies all stay in one place. If there is anyone around me, they are hanging in the air. Last night I took a video of what I experience. Looking at the minimap you can clearly see that I have clanmates with me but I do not see them. Also, the grid never move from their positions.

I have been hearing people through the TV speakers. But not on my headset. I can hear multiple people, some of which are cutting in and out. I've typed and not been responded to. Which sucks when trying to get help. I have gone into the clan options and can mute this, so what is going on. The lag was slow this morning and got worse at lunch and even more so towards the end of afternoon. When I got timed out I called it quites.
Get used to the timed outs. If you love the game you will get so used to them after a while that you will hardly ever notice them anymore. The lag has always been an issue as well but now it is 10x worse. Welcome to Defiance.
Supposed to get a HOTFIX today at 9:30am pdt..
that has several lag mitigating touch ups.. we shall see.
In my past experience with Trion as a player of Rift for many moons, I can say that they may not get it right on the first go but they will absolutely do their best to get issues like this fixed ASAP. It's bad for them as well.
