Why hasn't a staff member said anything about the lag?
I just notice they haven't sad anything about the lag problems, or am i missing something?
I play PC NA and for the past 3 days, mostly between the hours of 12am-4am the lag is very very bad. What is the cause

They have, but they aren't taking full responsibility for it.

Because if they don't acknowledge it, it doesn't exist.

Those bags for the trip to PAX aren't going to pack themselves.

    Hi Legendary, Squid and Kyosji

We are well aware of the issues that have arisen the last several days. We hope to have an update later today or tomorrow - it took awhile to track down but we have some good leads as of this morning.

I'm sorry for not giving an update earlier. Personally, I'd rather give an update when we have an actual solution, as opposed to "We are looking into it", as that really doesn't help anyone. But at the same time, I realize that it's frustrating for you when you don't get an update.

Either way, I'm sorry to those that are experiencing these issues. Believe me when say - we want it fixed very badly.

I think you mean the last couple months. These issues started immediately after the PC F2P patch and have never really stopped, though there have been short stretches where I haven't had any issues (could be luck, since the lag monster seems to pick targets at random and frequently aggro-wipes).

Well it only happens between the hours of 12am-4am for me, one time it happen around 9pm in coop missions. But thanks for getting back to us, its not that bad, but at times it is. I usually just have a good laugh about it though, sometimes anyway. But again, thanks for trying to fix the problems.

No lags at all during past several days, but they were before.

The lag doesnt necessarily effect everyone at the same time. It hit me last night at 7PM eastern and would not go away, everything was frozen in place and my clan was fine. The night before it hit a friend and I was fine.

i am an IT professional. i am a network engineer. i work for one of the top 5 largest networks in the US for scope in physical layouts, number of users served, and devices managed. we have a presence in all 50 states including some not in the US. we manage over 14,000 devices serving over 10 million users.

give me an IP address, and i can find out what switch the user is connected to in under 3 minutes. give me a destination, and i can find out what they are trying to hit in another 3 minutes. to find out the path, that they are taking will take me another 15 minutes.

in under 30 minutes i can tell you where the user is, where the server they are hitting is, and the path their traffic is going.

give me another 10-15 minutes and i can tell you if there are any errors in the path.

you have had 2-3 months of these issues where people are timing out and getting disconnected. ever since the game went free-to-play.

now, i do understand that you do not have control of the source and destination like i do at my work. you DO have access to the source ( the game servers ) and the destination ( the client on our computers ) that you can use for testing if you need to.

in these 2-3 months, the fact you have not pinpointed and found out WHY people are constantly timing out, even during NON-PRIMETIME hours both locally and at your offices speaks volumes. how can you run a game like Rift where there are not these glaring issues, and then come over to Defiance and have all these issues really makes me wonder.

it IS a competency issue. i do realize that Rift and Defiance are most likely run on different hardware and different clients. Trion, you have an honesty problem. you also have a transparency issue. you also have a competency issue.

if you review my account history, you will see that i invested $20-40 dollars a month into Rift when i played that game. now for defiance, i havent. if you are wondering why, its really simple.

    1) you are not honest with me in why you are making these changes.

the times you try to be honest, all i can do is say that you are making classical mistakes in whats called "correlation and causation" which is extremely frequent. it is most frequent when dealing with social and economic issues. when you make that mistake, you confuse people not spending Bits on lockboxes and think it is because you were giving us so many arkforge and key fragments for playing the game.

the reason people were not buying lockboxes was because the RNG nature of the lockboxes crossed with the price per lockbox, crossed with gear being tied to EGO levels, crossed with the chances of getting a desirable piece of gear. until you address all these issues to create an investment/reward setup where people feel they are getting their money's worth, they will not invest as the reward does not "pay off". people buy lottery tickets because its $1-2 per ticket and if they get lucky, they can win massive rewards.

    2) you have a transparency issue.

you do not post up patch notes a few days before they go live. sometimes they are not even posted until after they are live. we are not getting "official" notification of where the game is going, traditionally through like a producers letter or such, and what is being worked on for an over-all concept.

you want to really impress us? i mean REALLY impress us. i mean impress us so much we say "TRION, **** YEA!"

make a dynamic web page listing known issues. make it so that the devs can do something like flag an issue with "im working on it" or "ready for next patch" and why the changes are being made. dont even allow comments on the thing, just make it a publicly viewable dev resource for tracking issues so THEY can let us know its being worked on. hell, make it so the lead developer has access to it and they can keep it updated. then they can make a short update saying what/why they did to fix the issue. and for important issues, make it so they can propose a solution or several solutions, and then it would create a thread automatically that people can vote or leave feedback.

when you have 5 people proposing solutions, you will get possibly 5 different solutions. when you have 1,000 people proposing solutions, 950 will be garbage, 25 will be stupid, 20 will be useful, and 5 will be your good solutions.

for the defiant SMG, i do not know of ANYONE that said lowering the ROF was a solution. the people i know said what they should do is make it USE the "screen shake" setting for video. almost universally everyone said the damage was too low and it fired too slow.

Microsoft has the ISDN system. the internet has the RFC system. google has their own android/chrome/os system for users to propose solutions/fixes.

    what does Trion have?

    3) you have a competency issue.

you have a demonstrated lack of follow-through on proposed changes and implementing them in a working fashion. you have had long running problems that are game breaking. if i cannot play your game reliably, then i will NOT spend money on your bits shop. your demonstrated inability to fix some of these problems is glaring. and when you do say you have fixed them, they do not go away.
