a direction trion could still go

I was reading (this is jackdaws posting with the consent of my wife) a blog by a fella whose opinions I respect, not always agree with, but respect. His recent blog is here:

Long story short, he is saying a good way for a games company to ensure success is to encourage people like the following list (not complete, just a quick cross section of peoples) to input into the game, actually be listened to, encouraged to stay:
Etaew, Atticus_Batman, DramaQkarri, Crixda, Amack, Bonehead, NegativeCr33p, Nefarious (sorry had to do it), Smiit, Nathanpbutler, Bentu, Duction, Jackdaws (yes I appreciate I am talking in the third person here), JadedSin, Arsenic_Touch, the list goes on, and on, and on

He suggests creating new content so there is a constant input of things to do.

This is by far not the only things Trion could do to improve defiance, but it would at least be a start.

I have not seen this level of interaction with the community on defiance since... well ever. I still love this game, I still care about what happens to it, and I care about the community. Each and every person on these forums (Devs and CMs included) has a unique, and interesting view point that should be taken into account when making the game. Etaew has created an incredible resource that is DefianceData, and while he has had a lot more input than most, he is still ignored on some of the most important parts. There are so many Superfans on these forums, that really Trion should have no end of inspiration for creating, crafting, and moulding defiance into the greatest game ever... except Elite 2... cause that was the best game ever (in my opinion).

Go ahead, read the article, its a good read. Gamasutra really is one of the best communities of game developers out there, its worth reading anything posted on there. Take it as it is, a blog, but also compare it to common sense, this will tell you its the right way to go.

Or don't, as its all working as intended.

maybe trion will adapt and grow as we the players have and we will see alot more team work between players and the creaters. it wouldnt hurt to hear our crys of help and let us help make a game that is allready great better. after all we have been here for a long time and plan to stick around till the end that is why so many of us are allways makeing ideas and sajestions :) it never hurts a dev team to take from there players. sometimes. it even makes the dev team better for hearing our requests. and going from there.

iv been here a year. ill be here many more. i cant wait to see where this game ends up. let alone. how it ends. agine thanks for my name makeing your list. as well as thanks for the post. it was a good read.

edit : read the article vary truthfull and vary true all at once. by increasing the intrist in the super fans as stated in the article we the vets or the seasoned players or even the super fans end up hypeing a game more to our friends. by opening channels to other gamers that didnt look twice at the game to start.

as a seasoned gamer of all ganras . i have my own friends list on both team speak, skpye, steam, raid call, and many other socel sites forums and other places that i talk to my friends about games. spaning players accoss the globe. iv also got friends in some of the largest online gameing communitys in the world and when i dont like a game i talk to them about it and thay talk and word spreads fast and the game over all loses a vary large chunk of player base. but the opasoit can be said as well.

when i talk to my friends around the world in thes groups about games i enjoy thay offten stop listen and ask " is it worth trying " and then with in weeks of me telling them it is. the player base jumps

word of mouth can make and brake games. that is one of the problums alot of companys fail to notice now aday becuse some of them have gotten to greedy. take the game arctic combat as the prime exsample it was run though a company that i will not name here but also runs C9 if anyone knows that game. and becuse the company failed to listen to there player base. and failed to do anything about the problums that the super fans where trying to bring to there attention.

the game failed and was shut down. befor the game died though there where less then 1000 players on it anymore. all of witch left in search of new games and never found one that was good enough for them.

by haveing players and geting good communication between them and devs and GMS and forum staff. a community as small as ours can be filled swiftly with new players that are willing to push the game on there friends who will push it on there friends.

:) over all with the right ammount of talk. a game can become so populer that the comapny that owns it. would need bigger pockits hehe to hold all the incomeing money.

as offten as i see people i played with on other forums. i still tothis day point them tords defiance. i tell them how good of a game it is. i tell them that even with its flaws it is a lot better then anything thay will find out there becuse the playerbase is alot friendlyer then alot of other games. if had friends try the game and say " well its not my thing " and iv told them give it a week and level up some more befor you deside. and i play alog side them and show them the fun in the world and thay enjoy it.

it is sad that in todays times a player holds so much power over the rise or fall of games, but when you brake it down and look at it . it is not all that hard to beleave. that a single player or even a hand full of them. can cose so much to happen to a game. be it good. or be it bad.

im a super fan. ill keep telling people to play this game long after i stop playing it if i ever do. and ill still send people to this forum to learn. grow and become super fans too. :) defiance is my home of gameing. i will never find another game like it. and nothing can replace it in my eyes. becuse iv been here long enough to know. even if i try and move on. something new will come out to defiance. and ill come back sooner or latter. just to see what it was. :)

I made the top three! It is fitting that Etaew beat me to the first mention though. :) Also it makes sense.

Well to do that Trion would have to figure out a direction to go period for the game. lol

They've flipped flopped quite a few times on the direction of the game that no one really knows anymore where it's going.

Listening to the community is theoretically what we all want...

...but let's not forget that Trion listening to "the community" is what gave us v1.5 and broken scaling.

out of almost every one on the forums ya Etaew allways comes up first lol but that was not the point of the post that was made the point was the article its self that was linked in it. :)

i love the idea of super fans

if you ythink about it every one he named in some way or another is a super fan of this game nad has done what we can to contribute to the forum and community be it though playing the PTS and helping hunt down bugs glitches and errors (( fuzzy should be added to the list if hes not on it :P becuse hes a good bug hunter on PTS even if hes form EU hehe )) or if we are giveing feed back to the newbies that crop up from time to time.

to tell the truth. :P imo some of the names on the top of the list. should be thanked some where some time for all the hard work thay put into the community to help all the new guys. as a matter of fact. ill do that right now.

every one that has been listed in the OP and the OP from one super fan to another from one person that has seen this community grow and shrink and grow agine. as someone that respects each of you as a person and a gamer. and prises your input and help and skills thank you. and to the devs that make it all go round . thank you to. i wouldnt be here if this comunity wasent as helpfull as it is. or as full of players as its been. i wouldnt be here if i was not waiting to see where it all goes and all ends. so thank all of you for makeing my time here on this game. worth staying for. and thank you for playing beside me this past year or just being cool to be on the forums :P you have my respect and thanks

now . minerly back on topic.

i feel trion is starting to go this path. slowly but thay are. there leaning tords hearing our pleas for change nad help and ajustments. there relying more on player input in the PTS server to search out the bugs and problums that are the bain of our playing
(( just the other day thay had the PTS rocking with people to hunt down the bug that made the cars disappear while you where driveing them and have now found out what was the reason behind it and are in the starts of fixing it )) thay hurd our crys for pvp to be ajusted and have done what thay can to do so. with there cloak fix and there cooldowns on perks that made it so one could remain permacloaked.

so over all trion is starting to listen to us more. as the super fans are still here. we give them the feed back thay need to improve on what is allready here. and there doing it more and more each day. :) and i feel as long as thay keep walking this path that this game is going to go right where i beleave it to . and thats up .

I mean no disrespect to Trion or thier staff however I feel that they believe Defiance is thier baby and they'll bring it up how they see fit.

Like I said in another thread recently, if you compare this game to the way that it was being run this time last year, it is a night and day difference. As long as they maintain this direction I will be here until the good Lord takes me away, or the game is shut down. The latter would be a mistake of epic proportions because I believe the devs (just like many players) can see the potential. It is simply a matter of gaining the resources necessary to reach that potential. I am a very patient person, except when I am not.

Way too late, dude. They completely ignored all input in alpha. They most assuredly don't care about it now. If they did 75% of the changes they've made in the past six months would have never happened or been reverted.
