I would pay a premium to have an Auction House and a Clan Bank space.
I'm not sure why this wasn't incorporated in the beginning of the game but I think it should have. I think not having at least one of these takes away from the game.

That would be shweeeeet.
It's been addressed many, many times. There's little point in some sort of player market because there's nothing to sell that can't be found and it goes against the whole "long fulfilling chase" mechanic if a person can buy the ones they want relatively easy instead of making a decent haul from a lockbox (which are available for cash). A player market would be great if there were player made items, but as the game is now, it would just be a shortcut.
Same with a guild bank, handing out and holding a decent stock of the "best" weapons while people level up takes away from the "cool" factor of getting a box because you'll already quite possibly have what you want from the bank, and makes people less likely to buy inventory upgrades.
not to mention that some people would make a lot of accounts and swap there gear to there main account to get good stuff like upgrading powerfull guns and so on to pass to main
I would pay a premium for stable, lag free servers.
The could at least make inventorys account wide instead of just per character.
This is just a cop out, and in the end is just empty and not fulfilling at all. Bottom line is there is always going to be someone looking for items and buying lock boxes they don't need to funnel people. Let the people play the game; don't make the game play the people.
In the end people will want features either through content or game play, and they will migrate away from games that don't give them what they want. People will only wait so long before going to a game that has the features that they like.
Besides, every MMO out there has an Auction house system and a player economy. Do you think not having an AH makes it unique? I say no, it makes it like EQ1 a 20+ year old game where you have to sit in a common area shouting like an idiot until somone buys your stuff.
If everything is random there is no "Fulfilling Chase", it just becomes a boring tedious grind. If "weapon x" is held be an incredibly powerful end boss (i.e. Warmaster or something more bassass) and you get it from him (every time), that's a chase, and there is a sense of accomplishment.
Do I really want an AH or Guild bank to be behind a Paywall? No, but I think they are missing a key area to make money that many other games have done which is to sell extra slots for bits.
I think Trion could do themselves some good to have a few people login to some other F2P games that are out there and see how they generate cash. Heck NCSoft has alot of F2P games and thier servers are full of people that buy stuff from their online store.
Did I say anything to the contrary?
Not every MMO has a player market, but those that do have a much broader selection of items, and in most cases player crafted. Until Defiance has player crafted items, there's really no point in having one. Nobody's going to want 90% of the current items.
What would you want one for? To buy, or to sell? If it's to sell, what would you do with the scrip?
Everquest. Interesting you bring that up. The bazaar was added in 2001, about 2 years after release, so people generally haven't needed to shout about items for sale for roughly 13 years of its 15 (not 20+) years (unless they want to promote them to sell more). Unless I'm mistaken, it was also the first game to develop one. Rashere could likely clarify :P
Your warmaster weapon is a good example of why we don't need a market, we need content.
If they haven't done it by now, I wouldn't expect they will unless other changes are to be made that would make one actually useful.
I agree with drtogobban. Until theres more content (ie. craftable items) theres no point in having an Auction House considering you can play the game, get your scrip, then buy w/e items you want at the various vendors. im not even level 300 yet and i find this game to be just fine the way it is.
The only reason you would want a Bank is to level up alt toons using the gear you have found and modded from your main. So look, im sorry your inventory is probably full because your saving low level items in hopes you get a bank or stash. but i would bet you any amount of money you want. Its NEVER going to happen. man up and either sell or salvage the items your saving. its sooo easy to get items and scrip in this game i find the desire for an AH and a Bank to be laughable. seriously, LAUGHABLE.
Never understood why anyone would want an alt in this game, there's nothing new to see/do since there's no class/race system in play.
As for a player market, I wouldn't be so quick to say it won't happen, it might just so people will finally shut up about it, but it's probably a hell of a lot more trouble than its worth
True, an Alt to "play" is really to waste time, because maybe there is nothing to do after 5900 ego. (no end game content)
but Alt's are very useful in PC version , for example having 3 Alt's on separate accounts :
1) can skip the queue wait on Co-op maps when few to no players are online.
2) can farm 4 times the Cores you would have got from time spent on one run.
3) can use Alt's as bank storage 3 x 35 = 105 slots
4) can buy more DLC5's for the 1000AF if you were going to buy from Bitstore anyhow to upgrade OJ rarity, also they will get Keys daily/weekly.
5) Ego codes could be applied 4 times instead of once. (hint: Locked boxes)
6) can do weekly's at the same time and get more Rep for T4 Mods
7) etc. etc. , i'm sure other players could think of even more uses for Alt's
To a MMO player, If it is not your MAIN (primary) character, any other character is considered an alternate character whether or not it's in the same account, separate accounts or even separate server regions. as long as it's within the same MMO game.
To a MMO provider, your main (primary) character is per account based, since they do not have data or knowledge to connect your different accounts as a single customer.
so are you a MMO provider or customer (player) ?
in the context of this thread, we're talking about an alt on the same account and the benefits of a shared bank.
Typically in my MMO experience, a character on a second account was still referred to as a main, because they would frequently be used simultaneously over multiple clients, but this was several years ago in EQ and when WoW was still new and the definition has changed over the years and means different things to different people, like shard, raid, and dkp for example. Again though, we're talking about alts on the same account for purposes of this thread in relation to a shared account bank.
They often do have data and knowledge to connect multiple accounts to a person, or a single household at minimum, by IP address locking, cookies if there's a browser component, or billing information.
