Question on buying grenades

So I've been on the hunt and saving up for OJ Frag Grenades forever. I've seen the prices lately range in the 600,000 to 1-2 million scrip, which I think is just cray cray, but that's a different complaint. Yesterday I hear someone in the chat mention that they're selling OJ Frags and I ask the price. To my surprise they are selling for 500,000 scrip. I immediately say "I'll buy" and head to the other player's location.

I meet the seller and notice that he's surrounded by a group of 5 or 6 other players. I throw my 500,000 scrip in the trade window and he throws the OJ Frags in - but I notice they show as 0 of 5 grenades (0/5). This raises a red flag for me. Is this a scam? I'm not a noob, and I know that you buy grenades and get grenade charges to refill - but I have never bought 0/5 grenades - they have always been at least 5/5.

Because I hesitated and canceled the trade - the seller starts calling me names (noob!) and seems offended that I don't trust him. Others around (his friends?) start calling me noob since I "don't know that you can recharge grenades" (which duh, of course I knew). However, I've always started with a full set. The others around the seller stick up for him, defending him that he wouldn't rip me off.

Adding to my apprehension was the fact that earlier in the night I saw someone mention the "trade glitch" (or "trade scam?"). I still don't know if it was related at all, but this was a trade so my guard was up.

So, bottom line, I probably blew a great deal on OJ Frags - or saved myself 1/2 a mil in scrip that I would have lost.

Has anyone else bought 0/5 grenades and got ripped off? Or would this have gone smoothly and I ruined a good deal by being paranoid? Would love a moderator's answer here, or answers from arkhunters who know.

PS. I did not name the seller because he could very well have been telling me the truth and I really did not mean to piss him off.

0/5 just means they're empty, you'd just have to refill them lol.

Dude was also being a flat out jerk to you. He could have entirely refilled the grenades for 100 scrip at any vendor, but chose to rage on you instead

Never heard of this before as when trading seller and buyer have always made sure they've got 5/5. There's nothing wrong with being on your guard especially when there are so many willing to rip people off.
I need to move some gear today between characters so will test this out to see what happens.
Are you on xbox? If so and you still want them I've got some oj frags you can have for the 500k, I only use bio or flash bangs normally.

I give away orange grenades, don't know why people want so much for something that is not worth that much.

hit me up if im on. i have one chr with alot of inventory space if ya need help moving stuff......and i tested the grenade thing earlier. 2/5 grenades traded just fine so the 0/5 should do the same. only catch is you HAVE to make sure you dont have any of that type in your inventory. theres still the chance it will become a refill for a lower color.

TO OP: it always a good rule of thumb to not have any of what ever type of grenade you are buying.

How many have you given away since the key drop nerf and the T2 box nerf? I'd wager not many. They hold little value to old timers because we already have ours. Trying to get a full set for a new person is going to be a serious pain in the as... wallet. :p

On Ps3 like 6 months ago, we had a bug that "seemed" empty nades vanished when traded.
It happened in trades with fair vets but havnt heard of since awhile so i guess it has been reported n fixed.

Aside indeed Nades are totally useless in my book, i used to give em for free to clannies, now i sell em straight away to make a 300k.

Anyway i hardly use my money as i prefer trade to trade. But prices goes crazy indeed, and when you say like "400k oj nade" you hear most (of the guys sellin guns for millions) laughting for 5 mins and finally trying to get it the cheaper price, when they would just have to leave it if they were fairly finding it outrageous.

Its all about a freaking buisness strategy just to earn so USELESS currency.

Aswell as i have a kind of satisfaction when I read on zone:
-" ***** for trade"
-"How much?? money is no problem"
-"Not for sale, for trade"
-" -_- leave it then..."

I just think handing over good guns for crapp useless currency is just stupid.

How i work is, i give for free to friends what they seek (i given Ladies, Reckoning, HP7,T4 mods,....)
And in return, i know i can ask them stuffs and get free (missing Warmaster ojs, mods, Extralife gear, new syn gear,....)

I always worked like this because old players taught me this way when i joined.
Sometimes your too confident and someone mess up with you, but you learn and word spreads fast between vets.

Anyway, i still have a Hatchin nade i couldnt sell as the last time i spammed i wanted 350 and he wanted 300. he pretended to be poor but hes one of the richest EU guys, so no mercy.

If any who want it, i dont keep nades.
And its 5/5 full :)

Actually I started getting more orange everything over the past few months than I have since launch. And an inventory full or orange is good and all but why sell them when I could make someone else game a little easier.
