pay boxes: are you getting your money's worth?
I have recently spent $200.00 on pay boxes just to see exactly how well they produce for what we pay. The end result was Terrible by any standard. Out of those pay boxes I got 8 t4 mods 12 purple guns of which 9 had no nano a legendary rocket launcher and a no nano legendary derailer. Now just suppose maybe I just had really bad luck, even then wouldn't you think that the drop rates would be better than in game boxes considering you are paying out (real) money? I'm not really angry about this as much as I am concerned that after multiple players I have discussed this with ultimately say on average that they have dumped at least 400 into the boxes before they really start producing anything even remotely nice while few others have hit pay dirt on just 15 bucks. Ultimately I've decided that after spending 200 for that my days with the pay boxes are over. So that's my experience and for what it's worth I'd like to hear from others how has your luck been with the pay boxes good or bad?

idk why I would ever pay for lockboxes anyway. I can get 3 elite lockboxes in a day from keycodes. Just need to spend $5 to increase keycode capacity.

I don't even know what to say. You could've spent your money way better than this or at least have read up a bit on lock boxes before whaling out.

Df store lock boxes are a scam. Learned early not to spend real money on those. Only items worth spending money on are the key code/patron passes/inventory slot upgrades and blade mods or even certain outfits if you're into that.

Burned some bits I had sitting in store on 1/2 off to get jackpot. Vendor got everything I got from it. At least I don't have any bits left to worry about what to do with now. Won't be buying any more. My opinion keys are the way to go for the boxes you can buy with them not bits.

I spent money on the blackened hellfire crates hoping to at least get the pumkin headgear. Or a T4 mod. Or a slim chance at a jackpot Halloween.Got mostly blues, and a couple purple guns and a crapload of T2 purge mods. Worst money I ever spent. It should at least guarantee a purple for $5 real money per box. Ridiculous...

The 200 was disposable so didn't really care, but from the sounds of the posts so far it seems like no one's had a positive experience.

Wow, the HF crates have T2's in them? If you spend money you should at least get epic/T3 or higher. I bought an Elite lockbox from the store once shortly after I just started playing not knowing that they were the same as the ones you can get with keys. When I realized that I had just spent $5 for a lockbox that was worse than any of the "free" ones that I had opened that ended my foray into buying them. However, I have had to come to terms with a growing inventory slot addiction so ...

This has been discussed so many times over the last 2 years. Purchasing lock boxes with real cash is akin to handing your money directly to Trion with little return.

As many times as we've asked them to tweak the pay boxes, it has always fallen on deaf ears. Remember, the forumites only make up , at best, 5% of the player base. The purchasers in that other 95% is what keeps the game afloat. Trion thrives on these whales and when the rest of us try them "just to see what would happen", they are laughing on the way to the bank.

As long as ppl purchase these boxes, they have no reason to change them. Whether we condone this or not, it's good business sense.

I open 2-3 a day with normal game play. My days of farming Defiance are long over. Why grind when it isn't necessary?

    Free?

I've dumped more into this game than any other I've ever played. Not to mention the total hours played.

Nothing good is free, nothing free is good.

But if they did pay out well wouldn't it stand to reason that more people would buy boxes creating even more revenue and at the same time balancing our troubled in game economy by putting more of the super Rares that people are gouging 20+ mill for into players hands driving down the prices?

It begins to tread the fine line of P2W.

I see that point and agree to an extent, but a **** player with great guns is still a **** player.

It's gambling. The difference is that you do not win more money; you win a digital item or two. I paid for for key inventory, item inventory, a couple of outfits I am fond of, and what I have left will go towards a blade colour mod when and if I decide to buy a DLC.

That's why you don't spend bits on any item unless its 50% off. Otherwise your not getting your money's worth.

This is why I don't mind that boxes are overpriced. Whales can spend their piles of money and support Trion if they want, but they won't get a significant advantage over me. I drop some money into the game from time to time, but I get my loot from just playing.

cornucopia boxes treated me Really good last night bought 5 and got 3 named weapons both the best of the event and 2 of one of those.

It's all RnG tho i've bought plenty without out getting any at all in the last almost 2 years and I don't think they're over priced either, but I do think the price raise to 600 on the epic mod horde was crappy tho or at least I don't remember it being that much when it came out, lol

Never mess with paid gambles I used play another MMO had the gamble system ever heard of Atlantica Online? lol that gamble system robbed many rich addicted people I'm sure. In that game i"d just buy the things you could get directly sell it for in game money then buy the item people spent 1000s to get where i spent maybe $50. Unfortunately no auction house in defiance but probably for the best because be bots and gold er scrip sellers. The gamble system is made for people that have more money then brains because the game company wins 75% of the time just like casinos the house wins way more than the player.

Lol, as someone who spent a lot on happy wars.. At least for 20$ you're guaranteed something decent. On defiance its pure gambling.

    Horror Stories
For the people who spend hundreds of dollars only to get ripped off by RNG, just remember that their is no such thing as a game changing item in Defiance. Unlike 99% of MMOs out their, no one can make them self invincible through the raw spending of money. I don't spend money on defiance any more and never will, and I have no problem with whales spending thousands, because all they get at the end of the day is a bit more scrip than me and maybe a few hundred damage on a weapon. I can casually pick up a purple FRC big boomer that does 30k damage modded without any hassle. Then comes the whale who spends $500 to get an abaddons touch that does only a tad bit more damage, hardly any difference. So I just laugh when people say in clan chat that they spend a few hundred on boxes to snag a jackpot or spent a few million scrip on a HF AR, because it's all a joke. None of the lockboxes are worth it and never will be.
