I understand the reasoning for holding gear because many people over price items. However, sometimes it's not the seller. I've stated before that I think when a few good offers go flying around the bandwagon starts to get full. 2-3 generous offers, word gets out and suddenly everyone is selling/trading for the similar value because others set the tone.
I have held some items too because of how the market is. If I feel like the intentions of the player is for personal use and not to resale or use as trade then I will do a fair trade (not the inflated market price) for said item.
