Detonator with Assassin synergy - worthless? i am thinking so...

    Detonator with Assassin synergy - worthless? i am thinking so...
    So I got a Ground Splitter with Assassin where first 2 improve the crit mult, which a detonator does not actually have if I am understanding what that means. I just want to make sure I am reading it right...so I am thinking the synergy is pretty much worthless on a detonator unless i am wasting 4 good mods to get to improved dmg on 3 and 4.

    Does that sound right or am I missing something?

    I could be wrong here but I think detonators have a natural built in crit of something like 2x

    Yes, you're wrong, they all have a base crit multiplier of 1. However it doesn't mean that crit mult bonuses don't work on them: on a detonator that can crit, the first 2 bonuses of assassin will increase your crit damage by 6%. Gound splitters are based on VBI launchers, which can crit, so you can get some marginal benefits from the synergy.

    Splitters are based on pounders, granted vbi, but the vbi launcher is a different beast altogether right?

    Also, crit is nice on detos imo

    See I always thought the yellow numbers to be twice as much as the white numbers, but its been such a long time since I used one maybe not

    You could be right, pretty sure my scourge (my new toy I've been testing out) was getting 38k crit hits on viscera and the card dmg at the time was 19k

    It can be a very nice synergy on a det, especially one with crit rolls. I've seen crit DMG numbers as high as 190k-200k with my big boomers. Isn't Abaddon's Touch an Assassin Detonator?

    For detonator stat multipliers my preferences are: damage > crit/full damage radius > velocity > fire rate > everything else

    Cool...so i might give it a try without any mods and note the dmg & crit dmg numbers, put the cheap green vendor mods on then check my numbers again, and if it seems to have done what you all might be suggesting I may put put some blue mods on there as well. I don't have a good detonator in my inventory and there are definitely situations, like some expert coop where a detonator might help clear a crowd before they kill me 10 times. Although I tend to do coop with my clanmates and they are kind enough to just revive my sorry ***. I have very good clanmates! :-)
