I feel exactly the way these guys do. The game is missing so much and it needs more MMO elements to it.

A good review (in progress) with an honest appraisal and some good feedback.
Sounds like the game may get some favorable press when the reviews come in.
Notice the quote on IGNs site at the top:
"We're still playing Defiance for review, and we're starting to like it more as time goes on."
One of the comments below caught my eye:
"There is a lot more to this game than I originally thought."
That was totally my experience with this game. Now I'm addicted. :D
Might be being kind picky, but really wish people would stop using this term in such a manner. What it is missing, such as extensive character progression, etc are RPG elements not MMO elements. Those things have absolutely nothing to do with what MMO means. Considering it is not, and has never claimed to be an RPG I'm still baffled as to why everyone expects it to be an RPG.
Its as if they made a NASCAR MMO and people came on the forums and cried "OMG wtf I cant equip my car with badass swords that 1 shot every other car on the track? This is such a bad racing game, it doesnt let me do stuff I can do in (insert popular RPG name)?"
Here's the thing, these reviewers more than likely not have enough time to play this game to the point where all missions end and the hellacious grind begins. If any u from IGN are reading, make sure to do all the missions and then see exactly what Defiance is: an awful grind that just had massive loot nerfs to make it worse.
I feel like this is a fair review. I'm a fan of the game, and am glad that I bought it, but I agree with a lot of the issues they point out. I think, over time, those issues will be remedied (it seems likely launch was rushed to coincide with the show's premier - which I get and don't really begrudge them), but right now, I don't feel like this is a game you could play as a "main." It's best as an auxiliary form of entertainment.
They do raise a lot of points about getting people into the game and system.
Having played the Alpha/Beta I already got the system down, but they don't really explain EGO levels that well along with other things.
I mean even a quick screen at the start listing short cuts to what, as well as where they can find the help section that explains A LOT.
I get that. But many of the common complaints have absolutely nothing to do with the MMO part and everything to do with the RPG part. Features and mechanics that you would expect to see even in single player RPGs, not just MMOs, like in depth character & gear progression. At the same time you wouldnt expect, or demand, those things in another genre like shooters, sports games, platformers, etc yet for some reason everyone expects RPG in Defiance, which is not an RPG.
On the other hand you have games which do have those RPG features, but are not considered MMOs. Guild Wars 1 for example.
Try to look at it this way I guess. Lets just say youre a big fan of FPS games. Never played an MMORPG in your life. One day you decide to give it a shot, and just for the hell of it lets say you try WoW. You get into WoW, play it for a day or 2, and the start raging in the forums with threads complaining about the following types of things:
"WTF is this tab target crap. Why cant I aim at people? This game is garbage!"
"Why do I have to deal with all this questing and story crap. Why cant I just run around shooting stuff in the face? This game is so boring."
"Dealing with all this gear and skills and stuff is annoying. Why cant they just give us all good stuff to start with and let us go kill everyone right away"
Most people would tell you something along the lines of "Its an RPG, not an FPS. Go play an FPS if thats what you want." To most people that comment would make sense. Yet for some odd reason it is extremely difficult for people to grasp that same concept in reverse when it comes to Defiance.
