Which platform do you think will have the biggest playerbase?
Personally I think PC will. Sadly I think the Xbox playerbase will be decent at first but die down quicker than PC. (I want to get it for Xbox but not if there aren't as many players as PC)

I feel the same way. Im so happy that there is finally an mmo for xbox so my gut tells me a ton of people will get it but yea it might die down sooner. I just cant be hunched over my computer with no controller it just isnt my style of gaming. But if the servers are good and it dosnt lag badly for xbox that will keep alot of players playing and if this could get as much advertising as the **** games like cod then plenty of people will get it

PC will have the most, followed by xbox, then ps3. But I think xbox will be first to die.

Its my opinion (which is based on internet images and facebook complaints) that xbox attracts the 12 year olds that swear too much and act big, so I hope that xbox has fewer users.

Im a PCer. Large monitor, 5.1 surround sound, nice comfy chair and a place to rest my beer, my beer, my beer and my bourbon. And my beer.

That's a very stereotypical view, Every platform including pc has its fair share of kids that's just how it is.

Well I'll be one of the 360 user's, hopefully Trion comes through and we can get cross platform gameplay between 360 and PC at least.

Depends on how they market this, I think consoles could be biggest but PC players are easier to reach. PC MMO fans are right around the corner, if you know what I mean. Hopefully TW gets huge population for consoles, thats where the big money is.

What IM saying that console players could probaly stick with this longer. PC guys hop on next game as it comes.

But that's the exact opposite of what happens.

The "big money" comes from endless amounts of useless downloadable content, pre-orders and millions spent on marketing. In the long-term, PC versions of games will generate the most revenue for the fact that they are always there, always available. And MMO games are as long-term as it gets, that's why most of them stay PC exclusives. Consoles will have different generations with no backwards compatibility and the bulk of their user base will jump on the next game that had better advertising than the one they played before.

I'd have to agree with you on this one. With that being said, I believe both PS3 and Xbox will have an enormous start to the game, simply because there isn't anything like it, but as soon as new systems start dropping, people will move on. I personally hope not, but thats just the nature of the beast.

    Sounds like a plan!
Sadly I don't own not a 5.1 sound system (instead some old, yet awesome Bose speakers) - but therefore a 42" TV linked to my computer.
    Hell yea!
    Bourbon & Rum.

    About the playerbase:
I'm quite certain that Defiance will be picked up by huge bunch of console gamers since there is nothing comparable on the market yet; but in the end the PC gamers will prevail.

lol if the new consoles are 400+ bucks and the economy the way it is youd be insane to think 90% of ps3 (or 360) players are gonna jump to the new console on day one... maybe by the end of 2014 sure.. but until then Defiance has at least a good 1 1/2 in it

Also not EVERYONE is a "next shiny thing" addict.. if game is good i play it regardless. lets see FFXI came to PS2 in the US in 2004 PS3 came out in 2006... i played FFXI for 8 years... do the math :p

Also why do ppl say xbox will be the second biggest but die first? why would the second biggest die before the 3rd lowest (ps3)? >.>

MMOs tend to be more popular in PC's. However the game almost begs to be played on a console. That said, people should be hoping that the game does well all around, regardless of the platform. Let's be civil about this.

well if this board is any reference theres probably like 5 ppl total getting it on ps3 while theres 100 for xbox and 100 for pc lol so PS3 is lookin kinda bleak lol

Solid player base on all 3 systems would be nice, and a huge push in the right direction so far as forcing big developers into cross platform gaming for more upcoming games.

Well just because consoles have generations, that does not mean that Trion Worlds will not update the game for future consoles but I do agree PCs seem to be more stable with MMOs because PC's do noth ave generations, just upgrades and OS upgrades.

and leave the generation that started them up out to dry if they havent gotten the new consoles yet? thats a horrible business strategy lol

I never said that they would abandon the PS3/360 versions of Defiance for the newer consoles, that's not very nice to put words in my mouth.

I think Xbox has a good chance, especially if Trion can get ad/featured space on the dashboard. I know a lot of indie games pick up people that way.
As far as longevity, I think there a people still playing COD: World at War. So as long as it's good...

Uhm, obviously you haven't seen the recruitment thread for Corruption. The PS3 has more of a following than people think.

And the person who said that the 360 has more kids? They were correct. Sure, there are kids on all platforms, but games like CoD, Halo and Battlefield seem to always have a few screaming preteens in a lobby. Out of the consoles, PS3 has the more mature community. I've ran into some of those annoying kids on PS3, but not near as many. Some of the kids I've met on PS3 have actually been pretty mature.

On topic: I hope this game fares well on all platforms. I've been spreading the word to my PS3 friends about it, in hopes to see more population on launch day. Sadly PC and X-Box 360 will have the higher player base, because they are more popular.

so when they upgrade/update the game to the new consoles its some how gonna still work on the older ones?

Just a possibility, I am not a programmer or game designer so I have no idea how much time and effort it would take for them to bring Defiance say from the PS3 to the PS4 nor do I really know what they would do in that situation but I would think they have some idea because they are making the game for these consoles and they, along with all of us, are hearing rumors about the next gen consoles that MIGHT be announced this year.

Not as long as you would think, the Pc version will be the baseline(im guessing), xbox/ps3 they would simply needed to reduce the quility of the game for it to work on them, then when the next gens hit they can just simply add a patch for the ones who have the next gens to download and be on par with or possibly still alittle under pc performance.

I think the problem that was being voiced is, what would keep Trion Worlds from dropping any new content on older consoles when a new one is released? What would stop them from ignoring the PS3 community when the PS4 comes out and what not.

Well if they're using the pc as baseline, then they wouldn't have to do much for the next gens thats only saying if the next gens can handle the Pc performance so baiscly the same amount of work now, give or take codeing changes so both should recive the same amount of love, least they should anyway it would be daft to ignore them

Most deffo but problem with Pc gamers, including myself, tend to jump ships and play the next mmo that or go back to the mmo that must not be named :> i honestly think consoles will be the bigger populations after some time since they have nothing like this about

I think this will have a bigger and longer lasting playerbase on consoles than previous mmo games just because of the fact its more a shooter than mmo rather than the other way around and the large scale pvp is also quite unique and will appeal alot to many console players.

True, I tend to try lots of games and buy them if they're good enough. ^_^ So far, Trion never ever disappointed me. They make good games.

yeah thast right because graphics are the 100% defecto determining force when it comes to quality and nothing else matters... which is why there are TONS of games that look great but have crappy reviews and or little to no sales.. wereas games that came out on super nintendo and PS1 still get high praise even today (final fantasy 6 and 7 and chrono trigger) graphics arent everything

lol opinion? umm the definition of quality is a fact not an opinion, its also a fact that graphics arent the ONLY determining factor of quality. You can shine up **** all you want but in the end that wouldnt stop it from being ****.

I mean Im sure your not gonna sit here and tell me that EVERY game that had good graphics were great games whereas EVERY game that had bad/subpar graphics were terrible games are you? Because thats exactly what that would mean if graphics were the ONLY deciding factor in quality.

I mean I personally think WoW looks like crap.. yet from the money its making and number of people playing (not to mention its reviews) it must be a LOT better than it looks, whereas final fantasy XIV is the best looking MMORPG out there... and well look how badly that bombed.

Of course, but PC will always have the best graphics. =) I still play with my SNES today and still loving it!
