I believe market manipulation is.. Simply put, part of the game. You'll always have the high end players, your middle and lower classes. It is only possible due to your demand and supply. Your high end players control the market with a majority of the supply. They buy/sell for what they please and cause influx to the market. Now. Your middle class buys what they need or want on occasion. And ultimately sell what they don't use or want anymore. Your lower class will always be the ones buying an oj, any oj. Anything they can to feel like they have what others would consider good.
Yesterday I saw someone in my clan get offered a DC10, Ghost Duster, and Beelzebub for their Phantasm. With supply comes demand and the immediate ability to influence the market to their liking.
I once got an Order from a lockbox (when they were the JP) and someone wanted it so bad they offered me a DC11, Wolfman MkII, EXL Extra Deleterious GL, and one other item I forget.
These are simple examples of supply and demand. The more someone wants something, the more they'll pay/trade. Not to say you cant get the same items for less, but its all "A part of the game"
