I am a reviewer and need your help please
Hey guys, my name is Mike and I am reviewing Defiance for our website myxboxlive.com. I've been waiting for this game, however, it's my 1st MMO I've played and could use your help. Based on the remarks here you guys know what you are talking about so hopefully you can help me out.
I started playing last night and have some questions. I only got as far as taking out the snipers on the ridge b/c I had to go to sleep at 130am. A few questions for you guys.
    1. HOw do you communicate to other players during the game?. I've tried and using the chat menu all the character does is say the selected phrase but I can't talk to anyone. Is this possible?

    2. Is there an easy way to get money or scrip to upgrade/purchase weapons as I only have 200 scrip after two hours of play and am unsure if this is even good or bad?

    3. I tried using shadow war but got bumped off at the time and couldn't get back on. This is the pvp section correct where I can go up against other users?

    4. In looking through the menu, I did not notice how to upgrade your weapon. Does this happen automatically after certain XP or is it not possible?

    5. Menu states I have to complete the missions by 4/15, 1st episode of the show. If I do so, does it allow me to go further or am I bound by the tv show interactivity?

Thanks, hopefully you can help me out as I'd like to get this review up before the 1st episode of the show on april 15th.

    1. pc version we use chat box to write or grp invite and use mic.. im not sure about xbox version

    2. side quests gives nice script, also you can buy script boost from item mall

    3. shadow war is weird pvp style i must say.. maybe try competitive matches?

    4. i think you can't mod weapons on low level..

    5. which menu states that? there are episode quest that related to show, rest of the pursuits are season 1 pursuits etc.

Episode missions need to be done by Episode Air Time.

There are many many more side quests and main missions to do.

Episodes are just that, geared towards upcoming episodes.

You can modify your weapons at any level, but you need to have the right modification for the right type of weapon. From what I've gathered so far is that you can't mod any rare weapon, just your casual white titled ones. I could be completely wrong though, so someone correct me if so!

Ok, so at the beginning getting von bach is the main mission obviously. However, the snipers from the ridge, medical supply run down building etc are all sidemissions correct?

On xbox we are using microsoft points to buy scrip I noticed. However, is this worth it or should I just complete side missions and kill random enemies and save up that way?

As far as the chat goes, on xbox I have to hit left d pad to bring up the menu and show keyboard. when I type a message, however, nothing shows up after I submit it.

also I understand the show has not aired yet, but what happens if we are to miss an episode or not complete the episode missions in the alotted time? anyone know yet?

    1. They have an integrated voice chat, which should also work on Xbox Live, the possibility to use a keyboard is also there.

    2. That depends on if you spent any. Basically doing Side Missions is a good income for scrip together with the Main Story Line.

    3. There are 2 types of PvP, Competitive and Shadow War. Shadow War think of BF3 or any other shooter with Conquest style games, but here you are in an open world, where players who are not participating in the shadow wars can be seen running around questing, furthermore mobs, npcs etc can also be seen and they will join in on fights, it can get quite interesting, but it's incredibly fun. Capture and hold the points.
Competitive is more of a Battleground / Minigame which works like most MMO's out there now, but of course plays like a shooter, Deathmatch, CTF etc.

    4. In your menu there is a top bar usually on your loadout screen, you got something called Salvage Matrix which is used to upgrade, salvage, remove mods etc.

    5. Someone else replied to this one, I just did the missions but didn't know they would not be there once the show started, I did count on more episodes being added over time as the tv series progress.

so far 12 episodes of the tv show have been done so who knows as far as that.

As far as the chat goes, I was unable to find any voice chat other than invite someone to party chat. HOwever, if you do that you can only communicate to those people in your party and not everyone else. They keyboard function did not work

Hmm ok, they did say in a stream I believe that keyboards should work, might be one of those pesky bugs.
Regarding the voice chat, I am not entirely sure if it's only party chat :/

If you press the back button and scroll over the different missions, etc., you will see side mission, episode mission, main mission and whatnot

For the MS points you purchase bits, not scrip. Bits can be used for the cash store where you can purchase inventory slots, xp, ego boosts and more.

You can also use the chat pad, which btw works very well for this game. Or when you group up just create an Xbox live party and communicate via headset.

Voice chat can be used for Party or Clan.
