    Is Defiance a Console MMO?
Altho just starting myself the game seems very much a Console (especially UI) with MMO elements. I play on a PC and it is a bit, well, hard to say except my urge to login and play is driven more by the significant cash I payed out than a desire to 'shoot-em-up'. Also not knowing all the ins and outs of how to play the various controls and average twitch skills at best, I am beginning to wonder. A regular (cheaper) console game like COD or the like might have been a better idea. However I am sticking with the game and started looking for a guild to join to get some positive help.

Aside from UI and some lack of comprehensive graphical options the game is what it says it is. It's obvious this game was made very console friendly but it isn't that impacting on the PC version. Instead of saying its a console game with MMO elements realize that it's a TPSMMO with RPG elements. MMO just means massively multiplayer online which it fills every aspect of the definition, what you expect/assume an MMO is doesn't apply especially since this isn't the normal fantasy MMO.

This game is a better spent $60 then CoD every was IMO. (No hate for CoD)

Yes, yes it is a console MMO. Just like DCUO felt "clumsy" being ported over to PC, Defiance kind of feels the same. Though I also wouldn't quite call it a fully fledged MMO either, at least not yet; needs some work. Red Dead Redemption's multiplayer kind of plays the same as Defiance and I don't call that an MMO. To me MMO means more than "massive multiplayer online", it needs the basic elements of it....... and Defiance is lacking the social/community part, and that's a big one.

Yeah for the console side of the MMO if there is voice chat in the game . It is really lacking. But supports Party Voice Chat on the console Also the inboard text chat is clumsy. If you do not have a keyboard. Pretty much useless to you.

Yet overall though Defiance is really one of those few games that I know that all my friends would play and we'd just Party up and waste things and yell at each other. As not everyone has a great PC or has access to one but a console is nice to see that Trion did something like this and opened up showing how a Console MMO should at least try to be. Even with all of its bumps but it is new and consoles are very server depend. So lots of stress on them.

Hopes in the future that things turn out great and things get going smoothly. Even though a bit bummed that I think I never did get my Pre-Order stuff...and yes I did read that but eh...a car and a gun is no big lose if I didn't get it on not enjoying the game as it is rather fun and challenging.

This game is a hybrid. It can't be classified as a MMO nor a FPS. Something of both.

People are afraid of not having everything arranged into neat little categories. Throw a hybrid at them and they'll argue back and forth... MMO! FPS! You're an idiot...its an MMO! Listen Bone Head, this is an FPS! LOL

Actually, you are an idiot (I mean that kindly, I swear!) This can't be an FPS since that requires the whole First Person point of view.

on the pc it feels like a single player game with a bit of 4 player co-op and a lot of random people running around with no interaction with them.

This game is a console co-op. Nothing more.

I think its currently quite normal, MMOs are always complex.

it's an mmotps lite with a heavy dose of consolitis.

pretty much what you'd expect knowing it was cross platform tied with a tv show and from trion.

i was one of the guys that once CBT NDA dropped i immidiately made sure people knew what the endgame really was as opposed to what the fanboys(all of which were also in cbt) had been claiming it was.

i also made a few somewhat popular demonstrational videos of the game from farming drops from mobs to basic combat.

i like tsw alot as an online only coop rpg, and i'm glad they changed the model. i had been giving feedback for quite some time there that they were going to do rather poorly with their sub prices. ie the $15 sub.

The day that I bought Defiance, Amazon had Borderlands 2 with season pass on one-day sale for $24.99...Ohhhhh if only I could turn back time!! I would smack myself in the head right before I completed my Steam purchase for Defiance.

    Let's not misconstrue that MMO does not mean 'Have to play with others' 'Have to interact with others' 'MUST socialize.;
It couldn't be further from the truth, especially these days with games that cater to the casual, the solo, the small group and the people who simply want to experience the world as if it was their own.

Defiance does what it's intended to do - play like a larger scale version of Borderlands.
It is NOT meant to play like EverQuest with guns.

If you want that, try Fallen Earth.

Either way this has no bearing on whether it's a port from consoles or the consoles had development and design priority.
