When I first started playing Defi in July '13, there were a lot more players in the game at any given time.
There were less weapons. I.e. no jp's, etc. There were only 5 level tiers for weapons and shields. There were no spikes or stims. Nades were not a "refreshable consumable". Expos. WM, Alcatraz, and Monteray Coast didn't exist.
Lag and bad stability were an issue then. More ppl at an instance or contract sight and you could really notice it. Our inventory was capped and the claims "holding" was dealt with in an attempt to fix the stability issues. We were, quite literally, told our inventories were the major cause of the lag. Still, the problem persisted. And, continues to do so.
Instead of opening the "play field" or offer some type of storage, to ease the load on an already over crowded map, our inventory capacities were restricted. With the promise that it would make it better. Yet, another broken promise.
Fast forward nearly 4 yrs. and the stability and lag are at their worst ever. Why? It should be better. The player base since the first 2 yrs. is easily 1/2 what it was if not more. Less ppl, less inventories, should mean less lag and better stability. This, sadly, isn't the case...I'll explain.
While there are fewer ppl playing, the amount of inventories and the need to acquire consummable drops has raised substantially. Now, instead of holding 1 nade of the type, I need to carry 5+ of each, so if/when I choose to change, I know I have them in stock. The same with spikes and stims. With each new event, 7-16 new weapons are added to the pool. Expos introduced rigs and chips, even more consummables dragging the stability.
Silicon Valley, or rather, Silly Crit Valley was introduced with terrible stability issues that remain to this day. It can't really be considered part of the main map, as you must teleport to it. Alcatraz can't be considered a new area, as absolutely nothing can be done there except "shopping". It is an unnecessary addition, as I can join an expo without ever setting foot there.
So, where does that leave us? Less people but more stuff. We can't get rid of the "stuff" because ppl like their new shiny things. Hard to retain ppl with a bug riddled game that has major stability issues and a bit store that caters to the "upper crust" with its outrageous prices on goods. But, what is the answer? Will map expansion actually help the stability issue, as it might take a load off? Not a separate instance map like Silly Crit, but on the main map. Is it a case of inferior hardware and servers, mingled with a jumbled code that can't be fathomed?
I don't have the answers. Just theories.
Please quit telling me or implying the issue is on my end.
