Nano'd guns also cause DOT (Damage over Time) ontop of the respective bonuses each one gives. There are a handful of other factors to consider as well...
-The rarity (or color): A Legendary (orange) will do more damage than it's Epic (purple) version. From lowest to highest it goes white, green, blue, purple, orange, and gold.
-The rolls: Each gun has its own bonus rolls that factor into its stats, so one gun with a damage roll will logically do more damage than one with out one. Try to look at the gun stats as a whole and not just the damage #.
-The synergy: There are many out there, each adding its own unique abilities to your gear and each can help certain gun types or situations in their own way.
-The Ego level: Gun damage scales with the ego level of it, so as you ego up, you'll want to swap out gear you outgrow.
*Side note* I don't recommend using arkforge to keep your gear up to date with your ego, for it is costly, you ego up pretty quickly, and you'll want that arkforge later on.
