Like my before post youll see what i said about the modded scopes +0.10 accuracy scopes seem to be the only scope you can mod with and not run into this issue. be aware it might be diffrent for consoles/PC ( its a PC issue for me).

As a long time sniper i clearly understand when you say its weak. rockets i cannot agree with because its mostly for AOE damage so single targets its not going to do a lot. perhaps a shared damage pool is in order for PVE rockets so when u aoe it does normal dmg but if u hit a single target dead on it does maybe 2x damage.

Anyways ive been using a LMG and Pump shot guns as a secondary and i have to say number wise that ive tested they all do about the same damage just LMG requires almost no work and shotgun u can close your eyes and still kill stuff and sniper u constantly have to work for it like its a chore.

I wont go into how the snipers have their place too deeply but long story short its all based on crit kills. so you need to use a lot of talents to make it work for you AKA crouch crit mult. 30% dmg in cloak ect. The dmg increase when higher then mobs is iffy at best . they do give you places to get higher some times AKA towers. but ... lets be realistic the time it takes you to run up to the top to shoot something u would have already killed 3 guys with a LMG not to mention even staying up there when they knock u off with nades ect.

I dont mean this to be a downer to any sniper fans! trust me im a big sniper fan but tabula rasa had it done correctly when the sniper shots would bypass shields and only hit their health. Thus GIVING snipers a very solid position with everyone else.

lets talk hellbugs for a minute as well. -facepalm- yeah try sniping on those and get no where fast. Armor piercing shots are in order for this. i understand ALL guns do wayyyy less damage on these critters but the time it takes to shoot/reload a sniper and almost no crit position besides the mouth (which lets face it u arnt gonna get to sniping) leaves this gun very obsolete on 60% of these mobs. ( before u spout about the maws on the end major boss ect i understand those are easy to snipe)and as far as ive seen 70% of ark falls are hellbugs atm which i do HOPE changes soon.

But to stay on topic +0.20 +0.30 scopes at the moment will indeed trash the accuracy on a sniper rifle and i do understand no one wants to hear that because of synergy mods and how u NEED a scope mod to complete the 4th set bonus. But it is what it is till its fixed. i dont know if they are aware of the issue all i can say is type /bug in the game and toss it in like i did so they eventually can see it.

I do hope a dev reads this post so maybe we players can get a clear line of thought across to the devs so they understand exactly whats going on here.

(P.S. we need a bank to put all these synergy mods in so 90% of our inventory isnt mods that we try to hold onto for when we finally do find a gun of the correct synergy) Thank you and keep up the good work guys!

Been awhile since I chimed in on my own thread, but I have noticed that my semi auto sniper rifle does for the most part seem pretty dead on with every shot, but I still notice the only sniper rifles I've had no real issues with that are bolt action, are the Amazon pre-order bonus Plague Bringer, and the sniper rifles that have the default hunting rifle look, and I haven't risked trying any of them yet with scope mods, for fear of trashing their accuracy like I had on one of my Derailers.

Something else I found though, I have seen no indication that scope mods do anything useful on bolt actions. At any range where I can hit with a bolt action, I do hit. The mod is almost completely superfluous.

On a side note, the frustration of sniping missing despite my aim being true lead me to sometimes pull out another random weapon to use out of frustration. In groups, im finding that sniper rifles are sub par. Both in efficiency AND in damage. Why snipe and get headshots for 4000 when there are other automatic weapons than can score just as much damage with just body shots hitting multiple times. Ive got an auto pistol that hits for about 600 per shot. Its pretty accurate too. I can easily get 10 rounds to hit for a nice 6000 total damage in the time id get 1 head shot. In the fast paced forward motion of groups, especially in dungeons, your group often moves forward killing stuff so quickly that you barely have time to snipe more than a few times anyway.

Im only around EGO 300, but it seems like for group play, sniper rifles are both sub par in damage, and in efficiency. For solo play, its great, 1 hit, 1 kill. With the added number of enemies and increased health however, the slow rate of fire of a sniper rifle is pretty much making you the weakest link in the group. Before you sniper fans scream at me for even mentioning this, I encourage you to just try out some of the other weapons, specifically some of the high damage automatic weapons. You will be amazed at how much damage they can do, and how efficient they are at killing...

For now, my opinion is that sniper rifles are for solo play only, and for the situational "guy is way over there launching rockets and no one else can hit him" situations in groups. Arkfall event? Be ready to be at the bottom of the damage list, and not be that big of a contribution to the overall success of the event.

Id like to hope it gets better later in the game, but im not keeping my hopes up.

I'm not having this problem at all. I'm barely above you EGO wise, but I've always been on the top charts with my sniper. In dungeons, I'm usually rank 1 or 2. During arkfalls top 10, few times top 3. I do occasionally use other guns and will eventually use them all but right now I'm having a nice time with sniping.

Makes sense. Recalling when my sniper started to miss headshots, it really was when I added a scope.
So, no scopes for Sniper rifles for now?

Thats the general idea.... for now atleast. +0.10 scopes should be fine. dont quote me though.

my .02 after reading every post:

seems like everyone is onto something, and i came to the thread with the same exact suspicion: adding a scope decreases accuracy

ive been using the bolt action sniper with the hunting rifle look, I believe its something like a 'bolt action repeater', for literally the entire game, in all of my loadouts for pve.

i can confidently say that once i swapped out a fairly basic scope, which may or may not have done anything, with a 'level III" scope, i definitely noticed being appalled at some of the shots I missed, namely on raiders or such standing still. not to sound like a ****** but I dont miss things standing still, and ive never had issues with hitboxes or latency causing shots to miss; if I miss, its because I missed. YET, I can definitely say, this scope has ****ed up my beloved sniper rifle. Gonna go log in and remove it now.

AND, more importantly, if you look at a decent purple sniper such as the semi-auto from Top Notch vendor, it has an inherent -.30 Accuracy, as a bonus stat. SCOPES on the other hand, give you +.30 accuracy. I am now positive someone screwed up and made (all?)scopes actually make weapons worse...

I can kill things that are just inside my FOV. Tested it earlier after reading this. I waltzed over to Sutro Tower and got close enough to see a patrolling DM Enforcer, then walked back til he faded from view, then stepped forward slowly til he reappear and 1shot him in the back of the head with a Frontier Repeater (merchant sold, unmodded). I repeated this with every mob I possibly could at the place and not a one DID NOT die.

So either im bugged or your bugged.
