No One Has Mentioned...

...the OUYA system coming in June. At $100 bucks, I'm in, at least for the novelty of it. The thing is the size of a Rubik's Cube, has HD output (video and audio), some solid power inside (CPU: nVIDIA Tegra 3 Quad-Core), wireless controller with a touch pad (sounds like Sony, eh?) and you decide how big of a hard drive you want, or you can have multiple hard drives; just switch out for whichever one has the game you want to play.

Okay, downside is that it is all download, download, download. Still, they promise every single game available for the system is free to try. No more getting burned when you are forced to buy a game because there is no demo, and it fails to win you over.

Heck, I spend $100 a month on freaking pizza. Bring on the OUYA!!!

Well, they did have a huge advertisement setup on speedtest.net, torrent sites, and others, but it was when they were petitioning for funding. People donated in different levels and get different stuff, such as personalized controllers and network prestige. However, this is not as much for gamers as it is for indy devs, hackers, engineers and the like. The warranty does not void for opening the console nor for rewriting the system software, and they openly encourage modding, hacking, etc. With the exception of a learning tool and a boon for small game studios, it seems like it may actually just be a tool for hackers of this next generation of console gaming. The road to greatness should not be littered with backdoor altruism, yet do right and wrong not walk the line of perception? And with that, i must take a dump.

The issue with the OUYA system is that not to many of the big names want to support it (from what I know) and it's meant for custom games and hackers

I think the new oculus rift coming to PC in a few months looks better. Plus it will really add to the immersion of PC gaming.

Never meant to suggest the OUYA was a threat to the Holy Freaking Trinity of Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. Just thought it might be worthy of discussion. Nice to see the level of dismissive comments in here. No wonder the gaming industry is overrun with endless variations and mindless sequels to God Of War, Gears Of War, Call Of Duty, Assassin's Creed and so on. I retract the thread on the basis that it seems a few folks are willing to write off anything that might result in variety, creativity and innovation.

And the Oculus, at present, just seems a way to see the repetitive sequels mentioned above bigger and in 3D. Jumping from tree limb to tree limb in 5-story-high 3D while playing Assassin's Creed 3. Yeah, let me toss down 300-400 bucks for that ******ic experience.

Unfortunately, the profit model for the OUYA won't work for current industry leaders. Therefore, there would only be indie games, which tend to be one-in-a-million. Also, larger projects just don't get made on those budgets because, love of the art or no, people need to pay rent. When we see a socialist commune of hardcore game developers, we'll start seeing epic (as in large) indy (and possibly free) games. Capitalism ******s all art forms. Scratch that. Capitalism ******s all culture.

Thank you, Tsugi, for embracing creativity.

I just hope the OUYA takes off and finds a strong and supportive fan base. I'd love to see the innovations indie devs can bring to the table. I've donated to indie developers of freeware programs I have found useful because these are the folks who will be building the bigger and better programs and apps of tomorrow.

Okay, I'll get off my soap box before I fall and hurt myself.

Agreed. I honestly believe this is the next step in gaming, from what I've read, the immersion is unbelievable.

In regardes to the OP, I will def be getting an OUYA. $100 Netflix player, with the option to add basically any emulator and their games. best $100 ever spent.

They start shipping to backers on March 28th with the main release in July.

You will be able to watch Twitch streams on it, FF3 will be a launch title and they are supposedly bringing more since they partnered with Square Enix. Minecraft is also supposed to be coming to it.

And technically Ouya did announce a touch pad controller last year so Sony sounds a bit like Ouya :p

I was a backer and cant wait to get mine... Even if it does flop in the end.
