I maxed out ARs in nine days playing 2-4 hours a night 5-6 days per week. I did nothing to grind, I just played the game naturally.
Started on LMGs a few days ago and I'm already at rank 10 or 11.
It's pretty easy with some weapons IMO.

I agree its not hard to level. Also you don't need to have like 10 guns on you at once. I have like 2-3 AR on me at once and when they max out I just sell them and do it over again. Just pick on kind of weapon and use them into its 20 then you can use any weapon. You just need to know where the best place to level them. Different guns different places. Bolt Sniper people are like its take forever to level nope its easy.
Tons of people all they do its arkfall and 8/10 arkfall don't give exp to your weapon. Why do you want everything to be easy?
When I was leveling my bolt I use guns I got from the NPC being they was cheap and now I got a 20 bolt I can go buy any sniper I want and don't have to care its max out exp.
PS: Leveling guns can be easy if you found out where the best place to level each on.
I guess the dev should just give into everything people ask for. This is break the game making it to easy.
You people are acting like its hard to level guns. All you want is to buy one gun and never have to buy a other one.
If they made it like a other mmo you would be trashing guns each few leveling for a better one anyway. Leveling in the game not hard too.
I am done with this topic no point on trying to fight it because people want things to be easy and there way.
Regardless of how easy or hard it is to level guns this system is so bass ackwards. It took me 2 weeks to figure out that there was a difference between specific weapon level and weapon skill level. On top of that, it took me another week to figure out that I could not level my weapon skill if the specific weapon was already level capped. This system is so counter-intuitive, and there is nothing in the game that explains the progression or weapon leveling system. If you are going to leave the weapon leveling system as is...at least explain it better to players in the beginning of the game. The horrid tutorial for new players in this game is lacking so much....but that is another issue.
I understand some of you dont want to use the same weapons the entire game. That's fine....you dont have to. I, personally, am different than you. I would prefer to use the same weapon in EVERY GAME I PLAY, for as long as possible, until I can upgrade that weapon. I learn how to master a weapon, how to customize it to my style and playtype. This goes for any games I play whether the weapon is a gun or a sword. It always makes sense to change weapons in any game AS LONG AS IT IS AN UPGRADE.
In Defiance, the leveling system requires me to change weapons every 3 hours of playtime, and usually I have to take a slight downgrade to change weapons. I cannot play the style I want to play - keeping weapons for as long as possible, and only changing for upgrades. If the weapon leveling system was changed to allow exp gain on already leveled weapons, people whose playstyle is to change weapons all the time, would still be able to do it. It really makes no sense the way the weapons leveling system is designed.
On top of that, there are really only like 3-4 types of guns for each weapon type. It doesnt take long to try all the different Assault Rifles and decide which one you like best. I dont need Trion forcing me to keep trying different Assault Rifles when theres only 4 different types.
The best compromise would be to keep the same system in tact until you get to Weapon Skill level 4 or 5. Then allow people to level those weapon skills with maxed weapons.... Whats the flaw in this strategy? Still get people to try all the guns, dont punish people for taking a liking to a specific gun.
I know I said I am done but. I just go buy like 2-3 of the same gun and leveling my skill into its a 20 The cheap one ^_^. Once this happening I can put my lvl 3 mods on my best gun. I use the same AR I just buy a few of them. I agree the game should tell people about it but I disagree with how you level guns with you. Like you said there few guns in the game but all the stats are about the same so having to drop one and get a other one of the same kind not as bad as people saying it.
Its the same gun, stats are the same you just need to get a few of them from NPC I use 1k green gun only when leveling.
I agree that the weapons leveling system needs to change! I'm not saying that I want to stick to one type of gun, I just play with a primary type and a secondary type. I have quit modding my weapons at this point, because the arkfall cost is too high and I will only have it for a couple of hours tops. If there were weapons that were based on EGO rating in chunks (0-250; 250-500 etc..) Then I would be willing to hang onto that weapon longer and mod it instead of just ditching it!
When they first added this to the Alpha I thought I would hate it when the full game launched. However I have found I actually have come to enjoy tracking my weapons progress and keeping spares to level my weapon skill as quickly as possible. My only complaint is the weapon exp cap needs a slight buff. Most seem to sit around 850k - 900k exp to cap I would like to see them between 1.2 - 1.5 mil. As they are now I can cap a gun out in under and hour doing coop maps. On a side note I am 1/4 of a bar from maxing out my Assault Rifle Skill. ^^
What about the current system is 'hard'?
Having to run to the weapon vendor, then to the mod vender is not hard at all.
Not using the guns I found, upgraded and enjoy is not hard at all.
IT'S JUST ANNOYING!
Annoying =/= Challenging
I wouldn't care if they doubled the time it takes to get levels if I could use the guns I want to get them. For example I found a pistol today that I LOVE! I've tried every other pistol I've come along and this is the first one I can truly say I enjoy. Sadly my pistol skill is only at 4, and when I max this gun out I'm left with 2 options.
1. Stay forever at pistol level 4 unless on the off chance I find a gun like this again, then maybe I can hit 5!
2. Level up 50 pistols I hate, across countless hours of gameplay so I can use this 1 gun I enjoy.
I'm sorry, but that is ****ing dumb.
it wouldn't be so bad if removing mods wasn't so costly.
i am at 20 000 to remove my mods on one of my guns your kidding right?
then if i what to put a slot on thats 12 000.
