    Any gym-goers lurking about?
Was wondering if there are many people on these forums that also enjoy a good old gym sess, i've been training seriously for the past year and half and am looking to be a personal trainer after Uni.

Also have been boxing for about a year on top of thai kick-boxing, great cardio right there, found I can burn anywhere upto 700-800 calories in an hour of conditioning/boxing. Always ramp it up ontop of LISS training in cutting seasons.

Was looking to discuss other gym-goers 'stats' and such, and inspirations etc, hell even if you go for the occasional jog your welcome :)!

Also if anyone wants advice, we can help! I was thinking about talking Gym stuff on commentaries with Defiance, not all of the commentaries but maybe a weekly gym sess talk commentary? Haha.

I just started going after 2 years of inactivity due to some medical drama....Just doing some "power walking" on the treadmill, I tried the elliptical but thought I was having a heart attack so I thought I should start slowly. Going to try to get into some sort of full body routine starting in May.

Ahh nice man! Yeah try LISS cardio (Low Intensity Steady State) It's grate for your heart mate, just on an incline and walk for about 40ish minutes.

As for the full body, do you mean weights? Or full body cardio stuff, such as burpees and ski sits push ups etc?

weight Thrower here. Took a nice long break for about 6 months but have been back at it the last month, trying to get back up to my 180, 10 pounds left to go!! Mainly into weight training because the Military keeps my cardio up and Military combatives keep me thirsty for keeping my strength and endurance up. Big fan of the Arms assualts and trying to give my abs the kick in the *** they need.

I am currently doing it to lose weight and gain strength. A neat site for tracking your workouts is www.fitocracy.com . The community there is pretty rad as well.

I mean...I guess cardio/weight loss...I don't want to bulk up, just tone up...but I can't do much heavy lifting bc of my 6 time surgically repaired abdomen lol

I want to get more into strength training. I've got a treadmill but quickly grow tired of cardio, I get more than enough of that at work. I'm planning on picking up a gym membership shortly and just doing the basics for a few weeks before getting into the stuff I really want to learn, such as deadlifts.

Sorry I don't have any stats or anything (at least not yet) but I'll keep an eye on the thread and post when I do. :)

I have a friend like you!

Remember, if you do pure Cardio, you will get to a stage (most likely atleast) where you just can't get that weight to move, just do some arm works, that will quickly bring definition to the arms obviously, keep the shoulder work going, and as for your abdomen, I wouldn't know what to say... I would talk to a doctor about what you should and shouldn't do, they might say it'd be good for them to get some sit ups done!

@Taaltos - Good man, a good old run in the AM especially, not many things beat it! I live in a town and still love a good run.

@Slayer Dude, everyone is the same way almost, Cardio is boring as hell! (Maybe take up a martial art if you have time/money, as it will make those cardio sessions so much more interesting). As for strength training yeah man, deadlifts, bench press, squats seem to be the big 3 of what people compare weight wise... I'd suggest getting some hamstring/quad work done! And get on a leg press to start, build that strength up.

Another one, if you get into the gym find a VIPR (Will post pic below) and go into squat position, then walk (Kind of bring your legs around) and walk and do as many laps as possible of the room with area, then have minute-2 minutes rest, do about 3-4 sets, these burns fat (get your heart rate up alot) and will also build lots of leg strength!! (You will learn how to squat when you do deadlifts, squats etc, i'd advise hiring a personal trainer for a session or two to get your form right or else you can damage your back and generally won't get the best results)

I don't go to a commercial gym, but I have my own gym in my garage! Does that still count?

    https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...69781721_n.jpg

I started the Starting Strength program 3 weeks ago (mostly did bodyweight workouts before). So far I'm making good progress. But today my hip flexors/joints still hurt from the last session so I'm probably going to stall back a bit on my squats!

Squat 100 lbs (might go down to 80 if I can't do the warmup sets)
    Bench 75
    Deadlifts 135 I LOVE DEADLIFTS
    currently weigh 145 lbs

Oh nice man!! I'm not sure about pounds though mines all in KG...

Bench Press 1 Rep Max: 110kg

Deadlift, don't know my max although I lift 80-110kg depending on the workout.

Squat, again not sure about max but I squat around 80kg, to be fair I don't do enough of these bad boys.

When I lived at home my dad had a treadmill and weights, now I'm in an apartment so that's a no go!

I have a membership to NYSC but haven't gone in over a month, I'm so bad (Defiance coming out didn't help). I was on a low carb diet too which was great but it's really tough to stick to it, but it does work.

I work out at the gym 2-4 times per week since two months ago. Before that I traveled to another gym an hour from where I live, but due to various issues I did not work out as much back them. Going to start running too when the weather gets better/warmer.

You will greatly enjoy the running!

And will you be back in the gym aswell when you start running? You might do good by yourself to do leg sessions if your going to be running :)

I started hitting the gym last year. Shot up from 60Kg to 76Kg in weight. Lots of eating and heavy lifting. Doing pretty well for my first year in the gym I reckon, I do have a tendency to train in the 8-12 rep range, so I'm not as strong as I could be, but I'm working through a mixed power/hypertrophy routine that should give me both size and strength gains over the next year. I'm also 26, so I missed out on all those beautiful teenage gainz.

Oh the burpee... I've done well over 20,000 of them in my military career. Have to love being smoked as a lower enlisted private.

Last time I ran into a beachbody coach online I ripped him apart for over selling, talking bollocks and lighting tricks on progress shots...but you... All those links and not one sales pitch. I like you...I was ready to have you all shot, but perhaps not. haha.

Nah, I am not about pushing products at all. A coach that takes pride in his work doesnt do that. Im just about havinga healthy lifestyle and networking with others. I use all the products and I love them but, selling isnt what i am about. Just spreading the word on good health is worth it. And thanks! I have ran into some coaches that dont even take time to exercise and worry about their on fitness, all they do is sell products that most of the time they arent using. I am P90X/insanity certified and really just love fitness, I got into it all because I was a fat *** and couldnt play with my daughter without getting winded.

Thats brilliant buddy, I was the opposite myself, 130lb bag of bones for over ten years, married and have two kids yet I still felt like a wee laddie. Spend the last year changing that..still goin'. I'm studying for my level three myself, so hopefully this time next year I'll be a certified trainer.

I'm trying to get into better shape, but ran into a road block couple months ago.
I was working out like crazy for a few months, things were looking good but then my calf muscle ended up tearing and only over the past week have I been able to really walk around. Apparently this was due to not stretching enough or something according to the internet. So I'll wait another month before I get serious into working out again so I don't reinjure myself.

I have only delt with torn muscles a couple times, I just do very very light stretching for about 30-35 minutes a day. I made sure to do weekly checks if possible with doctor. Once my muscles were used to the stretching I got clearance to do yoga, and once my body was through a good routine of yoga I was able to start with weights again. AGAIN, you need to always check with your doctor before you do anything strenuous with any kind of pull or tear. You do not want to worsen it! Goodluck with your recovery!

I go to the gym twice a week. 30 minutes of cardio (crossramp) and after that lifting weights. Does someone has good suggestions for foodsupplements?
