Makes sense to me! I'm older than you but still enjoy doing virtually what I can't physically.
I like the world, I like the game play, but what's holding me back is the p!ss-poor chat and inability to chat to my friends without inviting them to group, which usually isn't feasible. The lack of a game manual or in-game help (Windows' F1 key help) is further crushing what should be an enjoyable game. :(
I also got stuck on this boss and just found the fight to be frustrating. Also when I would die (very fast) I wouldn't even get the revive self one time option you get because I was just dying to it too fast. I figured I will need some help/hints and came here... looked on YouTube. I still don't think there is a definite strategy but I suppose next time I go in, I am going to try a few things different things.
I died 2-3 times in that first phase and that's when I stopped. I realize I was trying it wrong fast... and actually tried to get a friend to join but then something went wonky with my ISP so I had to stop playing. So a grouped friend on the same mission will not be in the final fight with you?
I get bored easily if there aren't any real challenge that makes me reevaluate my tactics. That's why I was doubly happy first time soloing in San Francisco. The experience of going up against a group of Dark Matters on my own renewed my interest in this game.
I do recognize the difficulty of these solo story missions. Again, I like the challenge and the feeling that I can hack it while my usual partners have to die many times to get through. Tough games have been around since the beginning, and have only been toned down. Does anyone remember those "original" shooter games like Gradius/LifeForce and Ikari Warriors, where ONE hit you're out but you're expected to dodge a hail of bullets and explosions? Videogames have only gotten easier when compared to those. And I don't think they've lost any business.
The only thing I would concede to is making an option to bring a friend for story mode mission, but with a warning that there will be no loot or XP. I and many others enjoy overcoming the challenge by changing up what we do or just "train" and get better at using the tools at our disposal: mods, perks, rolls and maneuvers, aiming, different weapon types, learning the boss pattern, aware of the environment, use of cover, and so on.
I don't know about the current generation, but having to say "they should make it easier" is a phrase I would never utter, especially in a game.
I just want to throw this out their, adding co op is a nerf and a way bigger nerf then adding a difficulty setting. A boss that's meant for one player now having to fight 4 would be increadibly easy. I say just keep trying you will feel really happy when you actually beat him.
LMG and BMG is how i did it. It took a while but i guess thats all it takes trial and error and such.
I did this fight tonight, it is by the far the toughest one I have had in this game. I would rather fight two Jake Legs than nim all over again.
My tactic was a semi auto LMG and a beserker shotgun. both green weapons. I had a Hurricane shield low recharge time and about average recharge on it. But it was a regeneration shield which gives me 25% health regen coupled with the 25% health regen perc and the extra 225 HP this was needed for me in this fight. Cluster grenades may be of help here as well as they cover a wider area than your usual types.
When the things come up out of the floor destroy as many as you can because Nim will make them explode around you causing damage. If you stand to close to them though as you destroy them you will get damaged as well.
When he goes up top try to shoot as many of Nim as you can this will cut down his damage and give you more cover. If you get lucky you may find the real Nim and lay in some damage while he is stood still for a few seconds.
Some people have said a BMG and Infector helps alot in this fith due to the way they lock on and apply damage over time rather than the burst damage of the projectile type weapons. Also a BMG can heal your shields as well which will help keep you in the fight longer and quicker.
I was EGO rating 900+ when I did Nim, I have done all the side mission and lots of Arkfalls as I never rush content.
i beat nim on first try with berzerker shotgun all i did was time the dodging correctly and shoot him once i was able to the only part i didint like was that he could walk thru the wall and stand inside the wall and attack me it was a little annoying but i still beat him i beat him at ego rating 675 and combat shotgun level 9 with blur ego perks
Oh yeah! Console gamers are new to bosses doing stuff!
Don't stand in fire.
