crits, crashes, freezes dont harm the console. Been playing defiance on the same console since 2013.
Remove any thought of a clean experience from your mind, especially on console. No company could have defiance run cleanly.

That's got a lot of truth to it, because Defiance was cobbled together coding rushed due to the TV show's air deadline. They even took on the monumental task of designing it to work on PC and 2 different consoles in that same limited time frame. Sure the limitations of PS3 and XBox360 hobbled the performance of Defiance. Several companies passed on the project because the time for development was so poor. Trion took a risk, put themselves under pressure, outsourced what they needed to and delivered a playable game, even if bug ridden and hamstrung, missing pieces most MMO's have designed in from the start... completely unlike the masterful design and launch of Rift.Quote:

I only owned a ps3 for exclusives(now ps4). Its well documented xbox is the weaker console on all counts for 3 generations now. If xbox can survive with proper care, playstation should be able to survive.

As for HW fails.. overheating is doing a lot. And no, no console can be possibly immune to that. Even when some people believes in miracles and that the tiny box somehow wield the same power as eight times bigger GPUs while few tiny fans can do the job of proper cooling systems. It's same problem as "gaming notebooks". It's pretty simple physics why it can't work like that.
Keep in mind that overheating is not just going to 90°C and triggering failsafe. It's also often going from 30 to 60 and back. Temperature changes are bad for everything. It's effect is cumulative. But that is what you get if your cooling system is underpowered like all NB/consoles have. It can't keep temperature stable.
At this time and age, a game that hard freezes your current generation console (or your PC) is completely unacceptable. I will walk away from 2050 the second it does that.
Also, hard freezes lock completely the console, so you have to power cycle it. If you're saying 2050 does not do that on the PS4 (I haven't played the beta), then that's not a hard-freeze, it's just a crash. I can live with that, unless the game becomes unplayable.
And yes, you will sacrifice your hardware with the constant *power cycling* you have to do with constant hard freezing. Try pulling the power cord on your TV several times a day and see how long it will last.

Hard locks will damage the console, especially the PS3 cause you need to force the console to shut down. There is the correct way to shut it down and the bad way, generally, the bad way can brick it at the very first attempt.
Like some people also said maintaining the console correctly refreshed is essential, dusting/vacuuming is not enough. Because the space inside of a console is tight and the console only has 1 fan, dust starts to accumulate in the fan, self-creating what is called by the "dead mouse".
Opening the console time to time to better cleaning it is a very good idea, lots of tutorials on the internet explaining how to do it. If youīre afraid to do it, professional cleaning is not that expensive.
Some PS3 were prone to overheat more than other because they were improved over time with better and more efficient hardware.
About the PS4, it can crash, freeze and hard lock like the PS3. It just doesn't happen that frequently because itīs better built than the PS3.
When it crashes the reasons are many, it can be an app problem, an OS error, data corruption or overheating.
PS4 isnīt immune to those problems.
Like someone already said in this thread, we canīt rely on the code errors the console gives us cause they cover a wide range of problems.
My post goes long and I donīt want to bother people much more but like I said at the beginning of the post, some people talk too much and most of the time they know little about what they are saying.
Problem with Defiance is that the game was badly coded and clearly not optimized for the PS3, Defiance is not by far the most demanding game of its generation on the PS3 hardware, itīs not about data load (lol), itīs about RAM and a problem also known as "memory leak" that TRION never knew how to fix it cause the game wasnīt designed to the PS3.
People may not agree with me but, there are lots of bigger, demanding and better games running on the PS3 than Defiance.
I also call it greed.
Out of curiosity, how exactly (I mean what really happens inside) can be PS3 bricked by power failure during playing? Because that's something any modern system (and I mean anything built on IBM PC since 1990) should not even allow to by HW architecture. So it's hard to believe third generation of anything would had some abnormal flaw. As said, bad coding from Sony part may cause it requires factory reset under very unfortunate circumstances (not bricked) but what could happen to it be worse?
Trion isn't the only developer out there who was unable to solve the "memory leak" riddle on the PS3. The sooner people ditch that old turd of a console, the better their gaming will be.Quote:

I understand your sentiment, but I've run into hard crashes on the Xbox with Warframe, ESO, Neverwinter & Star Trek. Sometimes things get wonky especially with ESO, but I haven't lost a console yet to hard crashes and lock ups

The PS3 does not run on IBM PC architecture. The PS3 proprietary architecture with the Cell processor was touted as the next best thing in console hardware. What it really amounted to was a nightmare for developers, with API calls never translated from Japanese. Almost every multiplatform game ran worse on the PS3 because of that. In my 4 years with the PS4, I only had 3 hard freezes and all of them were caused by Fallout 4, in a 6-month period. Bethesda software is infamously known for its bugs, so no surprise there.
ESO is a Zenimax product. I played it for almost an year, and never had any major issues with it. I left it for good because they kept changing the Champion System all the time, and I was totally sick and tired of relearning to play my Mage DPS every 3 months.

Iīve had a few problems with F4 on the PS4 but nothing game breaking and I have both PS4s. The game runs pretty smooth and my only gripe is the loading times, easily fixed with a hard drive update.Quote:

Ps: been playing Fallout Shelter since it released and I`m pretty sure that the crashes and console lag Iīm feeling these couple of weeks are related to the game, it`s not perfectly optimized for the console. A friend of mine had a corrupted save just yesterday on the same game. I love Bethesda but they ain't perfect also.
I love Fallout and Elder Scrolls games. I had always wished for a proper Elder Scrolls Online game and one came. Also did the same for Fallout, and one is on its way. Now I am wishing I had a new PC, better car, a bungalow, a mobility scooter and a girlfriend. All in that order (priorities man).Quote:
