"An Insult To Veterans"

As a veteran who spent many, many hours on Defiance ( both 13 and 2050), I have to say this:
Please stop using this phrase! ("An insult to veterans!")
Would you like to know why I am saying this?
Because NOONE CARES.
You are not a n00b or a veteran, you are a consumer and you will be treated as such. Being a veteran doesn't give you more of a say in matters, IT DOESN'T MATTER AT ALL.
it is high time that we speak with our wallets to get what we need instead of trying to convince Trion that our opinion counts more because we have a lot of time invested in this game.

You make a very good point and yes new players are just as important as veterans because if you think about it we were all new at some point untill we became veterans in my opinion the only real comparison is between the paying and the non paying customers and yes i am one of the paying customers but i still see the value of the non paying customer after all it is a free to play game but why not help out if you can every litte Bit (yes pun intended) counts.

Most of the new players if not half disrespect the veterans or the people who played longer.

To repeat, I haven't had any problems from new players and you guys must not misinterpret respect for "my opinion matters more than yours" or "respect my authority".

I dont even know what a veteran is... People throw that term around alot. Some people claim veteran and their requirements dont go beyond playing the original.

The term is something people gave themselves, which makes it irrelevant.

I haven't had any problems with new players either but that doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. I don't think i'm anymore important than anyone else i think we should all show respect to each other and i don't matter more than anyone else.

Also Ive seen "veterans" disrespect more players then the other way around.

Really if that's true then that's a shame because i've been playing since 2015 and i would never be disrespectful to anyone on purpose i didn't then and i wouldn't now.

Well Ive often seen "veterans" shut down actual 2050 veterans because they werent 2013 veterans.

Since I have a thread named "Racing is an insult to Veterans", here's my 0.2 about your post:

First, a veteran is not only a customer first, and someone that invested a lot of time in this game, second. When used here in the forums, it generally refers to people that have been contributing to this game, in this forum, with suggestions, critics and most importantly, detailed bug reports, for the past 4, 5 years. We organized a Bug Bash event for Defiance, we supported Extra-Life charity events, we signed petitions against the canceling of the TV Show, we visited the Arch in Missouri (well, I did), we attended every livestream possible, some of us even made friends with members of the Trion staff, from developers to CMs, GMs and everything in-between.

We have a history with this community. We have experience and the goodwill to share it. From time to time, we also brag about it, but just excuse us, we are humans and gamers, we like to brag.

Trion recognized some of this Vets for their contribution to the game, They sport special titles or outfits that no one else has, some received physical goods as well. I'm one of them and I know many more. So Trion definitely cares about their Veterans. Every company should care, after all, if Defiance 2050 even exists it's because those Veterans supported OLDefiance as a strong enough franchise to get a continuation.

I am a Veteran in every sense above a new player can't be. It's just something that happened.

Maybe you are seeing the word being thrown out more easily than it should, I'll give you that. That's because we are currently living in a clash of generations, The Veterans are the Defiant Few, and the new players are the Defiant New. Both are important to this game, and f2p players ALSO are important in any f2p-based game, because, without them, we'd be playing alone. All of their opinions matter, since we're playing the same game now. It's wrong to think your opinion matters more than the next Ark Hunter. All play a pivotal part in making this game last another 5 years at least.

So, if some New Players or Veterans or f2p'ers are being aggressive or out of touch with the community, I prefer to believe they will eventually come to terms that we are one community, and both can benefit from the other. I make a point to welcome any new player I see in the forums and in-game, and share what I can from my experience.

The fact I mentioned racing is an insult to Veterans is because we spent the last 5 years complaining about these darn Time Trials, and Trion made it a daily. On this particular point, it looked like Trion didn't listen to its older playerbase. That's the context of the thread. I could very much used the word "playerbase" instead of "Veterans". but then, I'd be including new players as well, and that would be wrong. I can only include in this demographics a particular set of players that have been complaining about TT's for years. Hence, "Veterans". No need to read that much into it.

As for "making Trion listen", the only way I know to make them do that is to constantly pound one subject to death. Not even money seem to work.

I just want to say that your post are always awesome and helpful and i respect the 2013 originals the people that were there from the start you guys really are the true veterans you really are the "Defiant Few" man do i wish i was one of you i really do. Thank you to you veterans and Trion because if wasn't for you guys then Defiance wouldn't be here right now and i love Defiance so Thank You.

I already said that, but I'll say it again: it's really refreshing to see someone guiltless excited for Defiance. Some old players are kinda grumpy now, for several reasons, but we were all Draven once. :)

And believe me, the Devs LISTEN to us. Even when Trion doesn't. Sometimes, they can't do all we need. Then, they will resort to ingenuity and do something completely unexpected, that gives us the same end results.

One example, of many: when Arkforge (the premium OLDefiance currency) was introduced to upgrade weapon's rarities (in OLDefiance, you can upgrade a blue weapon into a purple weapon, for example), people complained Arkforge was very hard to come by (similar to what's happening to Ark Keys, now). This was a constant gripe in the forums, for almost an year. Devs never made Arkforge any easier to obtain, BUT they did REDUCE the Arkforge upgrade costs. So they ended up giving us what we wanted... without giving what we wanted. :)

Ever since I read these forums (2013), Devs solutions are always like that. They won't remove Time Trials from dailies, but they will make them completely skippable. If they can't fix the cars, they will give us new cars, much better than the previous ones. and so forth and so on. It always made me feel as they literally can't address our issues in the exact manner we ask them, maybe because the credit of an in-game improvement must come from within Trion, so as the rights to that idea remain with the company.

So just keep the pressure on the issues that matter to you and eventually (yes, it may take an year) they will do the Jurassic Park thing: they will find a way. :)

I was going to say something, but after reading this I feel no need to. Everything you said is 100% along the lines about what I was going to say. I totally agree with all you said.

I never wear any title but Old School (and also Daredevil one cant be transferred for some reason).

What would be a more appropriate term? We're all consumers in the end sure, but typically the 'veteran' tag is used in the sense of, "Look, I was here long enough to see how things are, can tell the things they ripped out and made more grindy and bottlenecked."

Really? It doesn't matter huh?! Well if it weren't for the "veterans" of this game then 2050 wouldn't even exist, it wouldn't even have been a thought. The "veterans" are the ones who dropped alot of money into the game whereas the new players have only just begun to crack open their wallets. But you are right, it is about money from the consumer, which further strengthens my point.

Anyone who is a veteran and uses it to deem themselves more "worthy" than any other player regardless of how long they've played are really not to be taken seriously unless the subject at hand is knowledge of the game in general.

I disagree as most veterans keep to themselves and have a circle of players they mostly converse with. But if this indeed the case and I highly doubt it is, then it is wrong as well.

There's no such thing as a 2050 "veteran", hasn't even been a year since 2050 launched yet.

I didnt say all veterans.

The term veteran is misused when refering to 2013 players. Why not misuse it referring to 2050 players.

Also I play on xbox mostly, where the community is alot more toxic then any other community.

Everybody is as important as everyone else. Everybody's opinions matter. The term veteran is a person who has had a lot of experience of a particular activity, or was a member of the armed forces. There are no D2050 veterans. Only Defiance veterans.

I have not once seen D13 vets shutting down any new players on the server I play. I have seen many times players helping players with info, how to do this, where to get this and the likes.

Veterans can be from any field of activity if they have been in it long enough. Whether we have paid for it, or got paid for it.

That is what a veteran is. We dont just give ourselves that term just for the sake of it. What I said above is its actual meaning.

So yeah I was there in Defiance day 1 and apart from 1 break, I played a lot up until Defiance 2050. So by definition of the word veteran, I am a Defiance veteran like many others. And I always wear my "old school" title in the D2050 game, to show I am a long standing veteran.

Just as I wear my medals on remembrance days, at the parades and joining my fellow serving/ex-serving friends.

We meet every Tuesdays, at The Crater. But not for long.

I take new friends all the time. Good luck doing anything more than text chat though. Constantly have family in the room and I don’t talk to anyone over them.
So I guess I really speak to almost no one. Even the ones that have my phone number irl.
