Unable to play

Been checking every so often to see if the game is playable on Xbox One, got the usual error message for service. Though suddenly now it's telling me I need an xbox live gold subscription to play, even though mine's still good to next month. Anyone having this issue or have any ideas on what to try other than bang my head on a wall?

The Xbox server is down for an unspecified time.

I figured that much, was just confused as to why it suddenly told me I needed Gold when I had Gold already.
