Warning about pre-order beta/weapon codes!!!

For those who have not discovered this yet, the following stores will email you ONE (1) CODE THAT IS BOTH FOR THE BETA AND THE BONUS WEAPON after payment conformation of the pre-order!!! THEY DO NOT HAVE SEPARATE PRE-ORDER CODES FOR THE BETA AND THE BONUS WEAPON!!!

Walmart has not been verified yet, but should also e-mail you the combo code as well.

Valve/Steam and Trion pre-orders are yet to be verified, but appears to add the code directly to your account and don't appear to receive the actual code yourself.

Do not know about GameFly.


SOOOO, unless it is a beta code you get from one of the Devs or direct from Trion, or unless you do not mind giving your bonus weapon away, do not give away the beta codes you receive from your pre-orders folks.

Yes, I found this out the hard way. I got on the beta directly from the VBI Recruitment sight before I pre-ordered, so I gave may GamesStop beta code to my friend, as it said it was the beta code, thinking I was going to get a second code for my weapon on launch day, and now he is going to get my "Spore Shot" Infector gun. Yay. :(

I will update this if and when I find other friends who can confirm the pre-order methods for GameFly, Trion, and Steam.

One note about Valve/Steam: The more people pre-order from them, the more bonus content people get. (Wish I knew this before I ordered my pre-order from GameStop):

It is both online and physical copy pre-orders, with the exception of those who only have Digital version pre-orders, such as Origin.

If you have pre-ordered and haven't received the code after a few days, make sure you check your spam filters and junk mail boxes. If they didn't slip in there by accident, call the people you pre-ordered from. Make sure you contact the appropriate branch, as in-store won't have a clue about online order bonus codes, and visa-versa.

With Game Stop you get the code on your receipt the day your copy is paid in full. Putting down a small deposit does not get you your code. Dunno know bout the other big box places.

I got my code the afternoon after I did my online GameStop pre-order. If you do an in-store pre-order from GameStop, it is usually on the receipt.

Still, it is one code and one code only for both your Beta and the Bonus Weapon.

Trion I believe is digitally directly added to your account, so you don't actually received the code, but I am trying to verify this.

This is not news. Lance (Myll_Erik) stated weeks ago that there is no separate Beta code. The pre-order code flags you for the Beta invites. Once you've entered that on your Trion account page, you're automatically set up for the next Beta event.

Problem is, that was easy to miss. That fact should be printed in the instructions with the code. Unfortunately, of all the code messages I have seen of peoples, only Best Buy mentions that the code is both for the Beta and the Weapon. None of the other distributors mention this (that I have found so far), so if a new comer was to start late on the Defiance band wagon, they could easily miss this fact.
