Where is everyone getting their purple and orange gear from?

I have only run across one orange weapon and 2 purples since day 1. I see all these people in the for sale/trade with SOOOO many orange and purple weapons in their inv. it makes me sick lol.

I keep buying the tier 3 lock box and have never gotten a purple or orange out of that. I am also trying the contract stuff so i can get some purples stuff from the special vendors. I usually have bad luck with drops in any video game tbh lol.

So just curious as to where everyone is getting their awesome weapons from!

I've got about 5 or 6 purples, zero orange at ego 744. Just unlucky from lockboxes, keep trying, others have had worse luck too, it's not all seas of orange out there!

i tend to get 1-3 purple drops from mobs a night over about 1-3 hours of casual play doing mixed content mostly avoiding arkfalls(ie story and side missions mainly)

from t3 and 4 lockboxes i get a fairly high rate of orange items, but they're not weapon types i even wremotely want. alot of orange infectors and BMGs. i buy fewer adn fewer lockboxes lately because i have the worst luck getting weapon types i want at all from them. i'll get enough keys for a t3 every 1-2 nights depending on getting random keys.

most of the purples i get are pistols or shields, and sometimes grenades. i've also gotten orange grenadde drops but they were both flash nades.

To my experience, the tier 3 boxes are the worst. Tier 2 gives you a better chance at getting stuff simply by the amount of stuff you'll get, and tier 4 have a higher chance of getting good stuff. If you want purple or orange, tier 4 is the way to go. Also, keep in mind faction vendors sell purple stuff.

Yea....I hope one of these days I can get me an orange or purple out of a lock box!

I've gotten zero oranges and I'm at 1100 EGO rating. I've gotten quite a few purples though.

There are great purples at vendors if you're lucky.

i cant find the link atm but someone posted awhole fact sheet on the lock boxes and chances at getting rare items and from what i've seen it looks about right. i've bought like 8-10 tier 4 boxes and only got 1 orange and that orange was actually from the free lock box from steam pre-order lol

anyway but what the % came out to if your solely trying to get orange gear your best bet is actually the tier 2 boxes right now. you use less keys but i think it costs abit more script but thats easy enough to get. 1 tier 4 = 4 loots at 64 keys and 2 tier 2 = 4 loots for 16 keys. is the percent lower to get an orange from a tier 2? yes but the amount of tier 2 boxes you can buy for the same price in keys for a tier 4 makes the tier 4 worthless at grinding out boxes for oranges. you get a better % of orange chance on more tier 2 then you do on the amount it would cost you for 1 tier 4 box

So technically per the amount of loot per key it works out T4 are the best box for Oranges. This is because each chest has a different drop rate % on gear. However in actual practice the difference in the amount of oranges you get will be minor if you bought T3 chests instead. This is talking huge pools of keyfrags, like 1000+. If you only compare a small amount like 75 keyfrags then yea T3s likely will work out better but that's unrealistic since you have a virtually infinite source of keys through game play. The math has been done to death on it. T2s can happen, but the difference in drop rate is significant enough that you're better off going for T4s.

Personally I stick with T3s because they have roughly the same loot %s as a T4 and I get a decent amount of purples and blues which at this stage are what I'm looking for. Since gear only improves with Ego rating, I'm not worried too much currently about the current level gear and rather get good ones to raise skill with (extra clip, extra damage, etc). I already have some greens that outpace some oranges I've seen at 1625+. The only ornages I have gotten however were out of the 20-30 T4s I bought at the start of the game through keyfrags (was saving up) and got around 5 of them that way (all garbage).

How in the hell is that even possible? I had two purple drops by the time I was EGO 100. I'm currently EGO 246 and I have 5 purples in my inventory right now. I've sold about 3 or 4 purple shields and 1 purple grenade to vendors since I started as well.

Woohoo! Just got my first orange out of a t3 lockbox, and it's an assault rifle that I can actually use. I was feeling ****ty as I had just saved for a t4 and got two greens and two blues, pants. Spent a load of salvage to get keys for a t3 to console myself and bam, orange assault rifle with the assassin synergy, perfect for my play style!

There is hope, just keep on trucking :)

I've had about 10-12 orange weapons so far (4-6 I've actually bothered to use).

My experience:
Tier 3 boxes are your best choice. They have higher chances of orange/purple gear than tier 2's. And compared to paying 64 codes for a tier 4, the 24 are nothing.

Tier 3 all the way!

I get tons of purples from lock boxes, vendor specials, and grenades/shields from arkfalls. I've gotten 3 oranges from T4 lockboxes so far two bolt snipers and a combat shottie.

Personally I've been getting the teir 4 boxes and have been lucky in getting an orange on average of 1 for every 2 boxes I get.

For reference I'm EGO 1650 and have never looted a single purple or orange item from a mob encounter (e.g. you kill it and pick up the spoils). Blue is the best I've ever picked up. My kill count in the combat section of Pursuits shows 27k kills.

I have however gotten one orange item out of a tier 3 lockbox (I've opened approximately 100 boxes). A ton of purples from vendor sales, and a few purple grenades and shields from Arkfalls.

Generally vendor sales are my best source of useable loot. Tons of vehicles, blue weapon mods, purple weapons.

Things I've never seen in a vendor sale...

Purple Shields
Purple LMG
Purple Grenades
Any Orange Item

I think it sux that you got to have luck to get the "good" gear. Like even if you get a orange it got to suit you, wepon type, synargy typ and then the "sub class" of the weapon. go i guess the chans to get a weapon that just you want is slim

Never got an orange drop, have 1 character around 450 and another 150 and only purple I got from t4's or random drops is that damn sawed off shotgun, 3 times. Other than that can't complain about drops in general it's been fun checking out the different types, love the 3d modeler. Graphic weapon artist did an outstanding job, sometimes I find myself just checking them out in the viewer. Great game!

No Orange drops here, and only 1 purple drop in a lock box. So those who are getting orange and purples have good luck. Unfortuntely it is not like vegas slots where eventually you get a pay out.

Interesting to read this thread. I have been wondering if it is even possible to get a purple or orange item as loot off a mob, not as an arkfall reward or from a lockbox. I find checking merchants tedious and opening lockboxes a boring way to get loot. I'd much rather find something after finishing a hard encounter or killing a tough mob.

Oh and I see purples as specials at vendors from time to time. I've got 3 oranges from lockboxes I think. Nothing I really like though. A rocket launcher, berzerker shotgun, and a pyro grenade. I do use the grenade I guess. It makes a huge fireball so it looks neat, but the damage isn't great. It is fun to use on bandits though. They run around waving their arms when they are on fire.

I did do a major arkfall once and someone said they got an orange shield. I don't even see many purples from them though.

Purples = Vendors
Oranges = lockboxes (i only by T4)

How many of you have been running co-op with 4 players? It would be nice if playing an MMO with others was the optimal way to get loot.

I run co-op's all the time, I think they are actually a lot of fun (except you explosions 101, if fallen through the ****ing floor too many times with you!)

But I actually had a laugh at this thread, everyone chasing oranges like they are really that much better than purples or blues.
I personally use blues that the secret vendors always have and still get near top damage in arkfalls and co-ops. So those with orange weapons really are not getting an amazing advantage if any. As I'm sure anyone else who has made it to the 1000 ego club can tell you.

The only orange weapon I've ever had was a BMG, wasn't that great.

My best luck with purples has honestly been from Vendors.
I had 1 night I just would tour the map and check all the SPECIALS on the vendor and randomly I would find 1.
Every so often the vendors also have purple synergy items just like the REP Vendors

My 1 Orange Hand Gun came from a T4 lock box.

My only issue atm with the Synergy stuff is that I can't remod the gun to have a different synergy type.
Nothing like getting an orange with a whack synergy set.

Only epic gun I haven't seen from a actual faction vendor is the snipe rifle, seen semi-auto's but not the single bolt action. Unless its on some hidden vendor.

My only orange ever so far was a (marginally useless) Pulser, which I got first thing from the pre-order (Amazon) lockbox on day 1.

Quite a few purples since then, mostly from Arkfall rewards (which tend to be shields or grenades for me), but occasionally from lucky vendor finds (which are almost exclusively weapons). Doing a quick road/fast travel check of the shops every so often can really pay off. Got Nolan's purple AR reward gun of course, and people mentioned the always-available purples from the faction-specific vendors.

Unless I just missed it or forgot, blue is the highest grade of actual ground-dropped loot I've ever gotten from any individual kills.

That's interesting. With over 200 hours into the game post-release, I've never seen a purple drop from a mob, and with the exception of the Beta, never saw an orange in any lockbox.

Of course, with the loot boost active, the majority of drops are white shields and grenades. After the initial boost expired, I was seeing blues and greens on a fairly regular basis as drops, and a more or less even balance of weapons and shields/grenades. When they gave us the free boosts, that all went back out the window and now I get mostly white drops, and that's almost exclusively shields and grenades. It will be interesting to see what the drop rates look like in a couple of days when the free boosts expire again.

Oddly enough, the description text for the loot boosts says it increases the rarity of your drops, but all three times I've have one active (including the one I bought in Beta) it's actually decreased the rarity.

I am also fairly certain that Purple WEAPONS do not drop, Yes you can get a bazillion purples from major arkfalls but theyre only nades and shields. And OJs are strictly lockboxed.

All mine have come from tier 3 lockboxes (3 orange and a crapload of purples). Ego rating 1200 ish.

I have ego rating 350 (haven't had much time to play).

Loadout 1 I have Purple AR & Purple shotgun;
Loadout 2 I have Purple SMG and an Orange BMG;
Loadout 3 I have Purple Sniper & Purple Pistol.

I've alrdy dished 4 Purples and 1 Orange so far since they where not good anymore.
I been doing a lot of CO-UP's, Main & side missions (though ppl with higher rating have done more), about 5 times a tier 3 lockbox where I got good drops from and the 2 Oranges where random world drops if I am correct.

I had clan & self luck boost though.

Other then that I have been very lucky with drops it seems.

I am sorry, you must have gotten my 'In-game Luck Card' by mistake. I am currently EGO rating 345 and Have 2 purple shields, a purple grenade of every type, 5-6 purple weapons, and 1 orange shotgun. I have only used keys to buy 1-lvl 2, 2-lvl 3, and 1 -lvl 4 box. Almost all of my stuff comes from ground loot (or the occasional Major Arkfall Loot).

FIRST OF ALL- seeing people that have found legendary BMG's and/or infectors and discard them makes me very, extremely very sad because those are the 2 weapons that I want the very most, but I cant even find a decent blue protector or immunizer...

I am ego 1150ish and the only items I use in pvp or arkfalls are the only purple weapons I have found and they are: a 750 arc spanner I bought with paradise rep, a pistol I got from the main mission, an assault rifle I got from Nolan stealing my crystal rod in the episode 1 mission, and a burst LMG with cannoneer synergy I bought from the southern mod shop on special for 5000 scrip, and my newest sub machine gun that came in a T4 lock box. (I have found and melted almost all the purple grenades and shields I have found but no legendaries)

The most rare item I have found on the ground was Blue. The most rare weapon placed in my bags after an arkfall or co-op mission was Blue.

I have completed each co-op mission at least 5 times and have never found anything useful in any of them. I have my nomad outfit.

I have purchased around 20 x tier2s, 20x tier3s, 5x tier4s, I have never received a purple+ item except today I got a sub machine gun that I will probably never use. (I might have melted a purple northstar flare at some point)

I would really like to somehow find a cool bmg or infector some day....

As for the people that found purples or even the crazy oranges on the ground, I have 3 theories.
1) their tv is bad and they think that blue items are purple and green items are oranges or..
2) they MUST have the +chance % to find loot bonuses from clans, bits, and the other stuff, that are all stacking together for something like +250% chance to find loot. they are also probably stacking perks that give them +3% chance to find loot from explosive kills as well as the +3% chance to find loot from critical kills. they are probably critically-explosively-killing everything they see with a Ground Pounder or something.
3) tons and tons of Microsoft points

whatever the case may be, everyone would agree that it would be cool if we knew how to actually do the best thing to get legendary items.

ps- please do not discard any fancy legendary BMGs or Infectors please! I would really appreciate them!

I think they may have changed things to push the T4 boxes, or at least make them more in line with how things should be (considering the cost). I bought 5 T3 boxes and my results were disappointing. I swear a box gave me 2 items instead of 3, and no orange at all. Just regular and green. Not even a blue.
