Any Versitile Gamers?

I've never been one to hang around game forums, but for whatever reason I have around here. One thing I've noticed from what people posted is that the average gamer seems to have a very narrow focus on the type of games they prefer.
Perhaps because I'm from the old school, or maybe I'm just different but I've always played a wide range of games.
I'll play anything that's enjoyable from a dry (and some call boring) resource management game like, say, Romance of the Three kingdoms, to a fast paced action game like Twisted Metal and everything in between.
The only type of games I really don't get into (but can still play fine) are sports and racing, and even with those I'll make exceptions if they're interesting enough to me.
So yeah, I like MMOs, RPGs, Strategy (both rts and tbs), puzzle, fighters, platformers, shooters, adventure, simulations and so on and so on.

I can't think of a genre I wouldn't play. As long as the game is entertaining, y'know?

I play almost everything other than sport games and racing games. Primarily because I suck at them.

The best sports game ever was a little obscure nugget of gold on Sega Genesis called Mutant League Football. It was amazing and gave me 100s of hours of fun, maybe more. They ended up making a sequel "Mutant League Hockey" few years after that was alright.
I'd gladly help fund a company as much as I could (although that's not much) if they were to develop a reboot for Mutant League Football. If that game were made today it would be amazing with the graphics and level of customization and depth that could be added.

The average gamer is akin to the average sports fan, or even the average hobbyist. That doesn't actually say much. Most have a very narrow focus, either on a particular team or, subject matter for their hobby, with games it's a genre, however gaming is a little unique in the regard that most are easy to pick up on. Also, gamer, despite the popularity using that term for people who play videogames, applies to anyone who likes to play games as a hobby. It does seem that, the younger the the individual, the more narrow the focus. I've played just about every genre out there, and there isn't a single one I don't enjoy, except maybe adult games. They don't have any, that I'm aware, aren't of an intimately graphic nature, and the ones that are out there are just awful. Personally I've always enjoyed the racing and sports games, but the only ones I love to play are need for speed (Not world online, that turned out, meh) and Blitz the League. Blitz is an amazingly fun football game, without the typical rules of football. I once injured a players back so bad, they were out 9 seasons. That my friend, is a career ender.

Blitz still has nothing on Mutant League Football. :P
Wanna talk about career enders? How about life enders? When you sack the querterback well enough they explode into a pile of bones and guts. :)

I will never touch a Sports or Racing game again.

Any thing else I do not care as long as I'm not kicking a soccer ball, throwing a football, driving around a circle just to upgrade a car engine.

You shouldn't discount an entire genre just because most of the games don't appeal to you. You'll miss out on games you would otherwise find entertaining. I would absolutely love to see a Blitz Ball game, and you can't tell me you didn't have fun with Mario Kart or Crash Bandicoot's Racing. =p

I definitely will play whatever, as long as the game is good. I don't have a particular love for any kind of game. I didn't play FPS for a long time, but Mass Effect kind of broke me in. I still don't play Halo or those sort of games. But I'm sure I'd enjoy them in some senses. I just don't usually play a TON of games in a year so I am pretty choosy.

I love anything MINUS sport and racing games.

I love all types of games even the old interactive movies. Board Games, Video Games, Outside yard games, card games, sports (Hackey sack.. haha!) etc.. etc..

Some of my fav types of Video games are classic arcade/atari games. Centipede, Joust, Asteroid, Brick (The ball breaker game) etc.. etc..

Fav all time game: Galaga

Fav modern game: Defiance

Fav Game pre-defiance: Everquest / UT99

Edit: I had to list Mari Bros 3.. Its just well awesome.. Though Galaga is my all time fav I'd have to say mario bros 3 runs a very close second and needed to be mentioned.

Super Mario Bros. 3 I'd say is the best side scroller game ever.
Perhaps because I was born a few years late, I find most classic arcade games and atarii games nothing but a novelty. This isn't to say I don't enjoy them, but I can only play those games for a short while before I find myself bored with the repetitive non-goal oriented gameplay.
I cut my teeth on the NES and those type of games.

I love RPGs and Shooters. Sci-Fi only obviously, but I love Star Wars so I'll play pretty much anything with that logo on it.

Mario Kart and Crash Bandicoot's Racing doesn't count. Those. I will play for hours.

I meant "Realistic racing games." I think Blur was the only racing game I played that didn't bore me in 30 minutes.

I always try and give different games a try, you never know unless you try! :)

Haha yeah! I mean nothing wrong with them.. just not for me.

One game that really gripped me last year, especially, was Borderlands 2. :) I played it through in co op and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I don't play sports games at all but that's the only genre I don't enjoy. I'll play anything else. Although from March 6th 2012 to April 2nd 2013 the only game I really played was ME3MP.

I'm a major RPG fan LOVE em. But I actually have about 1 of every type Madden 12, Forza 3/4, Soul Cal, Witcher, ME 1/2/3, assassins creed 2/b/r/3, gears 1/2/3, and too many RPGs to list. but I forte in RPGs.

I'll play pretty much anything, though I definitely lean more towards RPGs than anything else. Oblivion was my first open-world RPG and after that, I was hooked on the genre, never have been able to shake it off. You can see a list of some of my favoured games on my profile page here, if you're that curious. The list is more expansive than that, but my entire gaming library would be a little ridiculous.

Even still I'll play anything that comes my way that seems worth my time. I don't quite understand the sports genre of gaming when I could just go outside to kick a ball around, but hey, I don't get sport at the best of times. XD

Sports games are really the only kind that I'll actively avoid if they aren't the extreme sports variant, although I'm not a huge fan of first person shooters, with a few notable exceptions of course. =P

As far as my tastes go, I'm quite flexible, though the same could be said about most aspects of my life. :3

I was 100% with you on the sports games till I actually tried it and its fun simple and relaxing. Something I did not expect from it.

It depends on the type of sport for me really. When I was younger and the series hadn't fallen to pieces, I loved the Tony Hawks games since I couldn't skateboard at all despite my interest in it, and it gave me a chance to appease that interest. It was more as a way to live out something I couldn't easily do in real life than anything else though.

Plus it was like the only game with a character creator that I could find when I was younger, I swear I spent more time fiddling with that than skateboarding half the time. :P

As I mentioned, I like all game types for the most part. Like many I'm not big on sports/racing unless it has an interesting theme and gameplay to set it apart from the mass produced titles that the genre is plagued by.
That said, I do have a special place in my heart for RPGs. Started with games like Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy and been playing 'em since. I was a RPG nerd before it was popular, by the time Final Fantasy VII came around I was already a vet in the genre. So while I love all games, I'll always be down for a good RPG.
I'm buying Ni No Kuni at the start of the month, it's PS3 exclusive (I think) and looks like a throw back to classic RPGs with a lighthearted (E rated) theme. Been playing so many gritty bloody games lately I need something a little more childlike and fun for a change of pace, hope Ni No Kuni offers that and it looks like it.
