I'm white. Always wanted to be black though. I hope Trion lets me change my race!
I think they should allow it. I think it should either be a lot of script or for bits. Or at the very least let us change the way our characters look. I hate the way my character looks but I have gotten so far I don't want it to all be for nothing by starting over.
If they release new races I don't see what the big deal would be if you wanted to change your race. Especially since race has no effect and since everyone pretty much looks exactly the same most of the time anyway. I also don't care how much scrip, if any, they charge for this. I'd be pretty upset if they tried to charge real money for it though. And if you do have to start a new character in order to use a new race then I think your pursuits should be tied to your account not a specific character.
Better create an alt then change race.
There SHOULD be race change available, especially since it IS only cosmetic.
I really wish the show would have came out before the game, because after watching a few episodes I've gotten a better feel for the different races. The choice would still be cosmetic but based somewhat on more than just "starting outfit" appearance.
Plenty of people say "roll an alt if you want a race change" but the way that this game is designed, it gives a strong disincentive in doing so -- one way is the EGO rating in the top left. Any time I play another character, I just feel like I'm wasting time I've spent on my first character and I just go right back to my main.
Another way that this game really makes me not want to play an alt is the time-sensitive content. We all put a lot of time and work into our characters (especially with certain bugs on pursuits that make us nearly complete them several times before finally getting credit), so I'm not going to just leave behind my character that I've achieved rewards on that I'm not able to attain on another character.
I would like to have more than one character actually, that was my plan from the start -- but the two items mentioned previously changed my mind on that issue. Maybe if the EGO rating was account-wide instead of just a single character then sure, I'd play another character that looked different from my main and I would even have no problems buying more inventory space for that 2nd, 3rd or even 4th character and put some more money in Trion's pocket.
When you're at that initial creation screen, you don't have all that great of a sense of what exactly each of the character models will look like in other outfits in the game later on. Over time you can realize that you really would like to be another race / sex that you find more aesthetically pleasing, since that's really what it's all about.
The point that "you shouldn't be able to change from a human to an alien, that's just too far-fetched" really only applies to role-players in my mind. I'm not a role-player, but I'm in *some* agreement with role-play fundamentals -- I do feel it should be a Bits charge and not a Scrip charge. A scrip charge would imply that it's a feature available to the character in the game-world itself (making it far-fetched), a bits charge is a service performed by Trion and not a part of the Defiance Universe.
Many, if not most, of us are just playing an avatar that we like to look at while we run around blowing stuff up. Sure we may toy with an idea of a character's back-story in our head, but stories can easily be rewritten... I don't understand the need to feel we must set everyone in stone.
Since it has no bearing on the storylines and dialogue as far as I know, sure.
But I'd rather have more character slots. 4 is just not enough.
