Crestfallen. Devastated. Gutted.

I had been saving the Episode mission until I was done with all the other missions. I went to play it yesterday because it said to play it before the episode aired. Sadly the Xbox Live service was acting up and I couldn't get on Defiance. No matter, I figured I'd play tonight. They know it won't air in GB until Tuesday so the mission should still be there for tonight.

How wrong I was. I get home from work, I hop on the Xbox ready to play the Episode Mission... and I get a big Red flash of 'Mission Failed' across my screen. What mission? I wasn't playing a mission. Turns out the Episode mission is now no longer available to me because the show aired in America today. How utterly fair in every way that is to GB.

I've been playing and loving Defiance since launch, but this is a real kick in the vitals. And there will even be pursuits and achievements for completing all the episode missions I have no doubt, so I'm equally screwed there. To add salt to the wound the mission 'Cut Em Down to Size' keeps freezing and taking my Xbox live connection with it every time I boot up the game.

Sad day for this Defiance fan. :(

Hate to say it but that's a risk you take delaying this long.

Though, as someone who played it, I can say that you didn't miss much.

Ouch. Honestly, it's a hard lesson, but as we've been repeatedly told to play before 4/15, it was a big risk to take. Hopefully you'll be able to play after the first season is done. It's a fun few missions, but I don't think it's essential to the experience. It's fun to play alongside Nolan and Irisa and see inside the Crater, but that's the biggest draw.

I got the mission failed pop up n I did them all lol all I have left is side quests done it all up till were Nolan gives u his assult riffle and leaves

All I got was a couple outfits I'll never wear and a purple AR that was worse than all the other guns I already had.

The reason the first Episode Mission is so close to the start is that it's intended to be played very early in the game. So, it's not surprise the gun wasn't that great. I didn't even get it because it froze at the final cut scene. LOL. It was more fun just playing through with the characters. Sometimes it's about the journey, not the stuff. :)

I was gonna wait until later to play them too. School has been really busy for me lately and I haven't been playing many games at all, and it never even crossed my mind for a second that it would completely go away on the day the show aired. I know they said it would be a good idea to do them before the show aired, but I figured that was because of the story, not because they'd completely disappear. That's just not something I'm used to at all in MMOs..

Yeah, the best part, for me at least, was coming away from it feeling like the main characters from the show are kind of ****s.

2. I never heard a specific date, I just knew before it aired. In the UK it airs tomorrow.

It was on the log-in screen for quite a while. There's also been a ton of threads discussing the impending removal of the missions. I wouldn't blame anyone for missing it though. I'm sure you're not alone.

I played the Episode mission as soon as it became available and intend to keep doing so - leaving it to the last day probably not a sterling idea.

Pretty sure everyone has seen the 15/4 date for quite a while now, and when it airs on Syfy in the US is obviously (or not I suppose) what to go by.

It was on the intro page for starters. Odd, though not surprising, if people failed to notice.

Don't get me wrong, sucks for those that did not complete the missions. The point is that it's hardly Trion's error that some, not necessarily OP, try to imply. As with so many things that are incorrect.

I also received the mission failed message but I have long completed the prequel episode mission. Can anyone confirm it is even gone?

Oh I would never consider it Trion's fault. I would have liked it if they had made one of their in game messages about it "Warning: Episode 1 Mission will not be available starting 15/4/13' or something like that. I'm sad that I missed out, but I'm not angry with anybody over it. One bit of luck was my Xbox not freezing long enough to complete the last Side mission. Now I'm hurting for Hellbugs for contracts. I swear, when you need to focus on something you are being swarmed by the little parasites, but when you actually need them they are nowhere to be seen. lol

The patcher has been warning for weeks about doing the episode missions prior to the show. Theres been numerous threads related to it. Not just here but on steam and other sites.

Also, you didn't miss much. The current missions basically introduce you to the characters in the show and give you their general motives. That's it. You haven't missed out on anything awesome or cool. Moving forward I would do the episode missions prior to the episode...

Are you kidding? The second I see them I'm gonna play them. I will be very sad however if there is later some kind of reward for doing all of them.

There's no information at all on the Xbox starting screen, so people shouldn't jump the gun because we never saw it. I did and enjoyed the missions, but removing them? That's below the belt.

Since the Australian release on Xbox the start screen has only displayed the thank you note... Mind you I was reading the forums and completed all episodes yesterday

Very much doubt there will be a special reward for doing all unless they add re-runs, trion wouldnt want to alienate new players like that.

It totally appeared on the Xbox Load screen. Upper left hand corner of the character select screen. Even though I was a little p***** off at that Nolan guy after the mission I used the Purple AR for a long time.

Yea guys it was there i remember seeing it and telling a family member to do the missions before the first episode aired. Just because people aren't more observant and didn't have the info shoved in front of there face doesn't mean it wasn't there.

I still use that damn thing. Four mod slots from the beginning and infinitely modabble?

Hell, I have the fire rate cranked up real high on that thing....

I don't recall ever being told that the missions were going to disappear if they weren't played before the next episode. Nothing about what I saw talking about playing before the next episode sounded like anything more ominous than a "be sure to tune in for the next Underdog show".

Not to mention that not everyone got the game at the same time. Still others took literally days to be able to get into their continent's servers or past the patch processes. So it's a bit disingenuous for the no-sympathy types I've been encountering on these forums discussing this issue to be acting like there is nothing that could explain such predicaments with the content unavailable except a lack of ambition on the part of some players. Not saying you're doing this, but it seems to be rampant in threads on this.

I am in that same boat - in other words, all of the above. Delivered late from Best Buy, couldn't get in for the first 4 nights I tried, and in the middle of a network migration with almost as much time spent at night working remotely as working in office. Gaming time, in other words.

So it's not that simple. I would just like to know what if anything actually happens if you couldn't finish this first mission before the show - as in what does it deny you (if anything) in future play? If it's just lack of character development/mods/Xp and backstory, I can live with that, since I'll be recording the series and watching tonight and will play more resolutely as time permits. But if we're hampered or denied in some way, then that is legitimately not fair and the concerned have a real complaint.

I'll say it. It was posted all over the place, but I have to sympathize with the OP, as he did plan to do them prior to the cutoff, and was aware of the cutoff, but, miscommunication by a Trion staffer.

I honestly feel kinda bad for ya, which is very unlike me, being a straight-up AuctionHouse.

Hopefully they'll do reruns.
