Hustle and Bustle over the length of Xbox 360 beta... My thoughts

OKAY... I am an Xbox 360 owner and I pre ordered UE of Defiance. I have a toss up of questions and rants about this crazy issue that's blowing up these forums. For one I totally understand our memory will be wiped so the beta really doesn't matter. But what does is being able to play and see what your in for.

I will admit that the one thing that is ticking me off about this whole ordeal isn't the length, but the days the beta takes place. I was a least expecting a weekend like all the P.C betas were before. But we get it on a Monday and Tuesday???!!! Who is going to have time for a weekday beta that begins at 8 AM and ends at 9 pm the next day!!!! I'm only going to have about 6 hours being in full-time college. But that's beside the point.

The only real question I have is will Beta characters transfer, like will my P.C Character be available to me on my Xbox? JW

P.S. For everyone gripping about PS3 having 6 days, this would bother me too, but I think they have to test servers on them because they have already tested the game on Xbox and P.C... plus it probably will only work for PS3 for 2 days due to their crappy servers anyway LOL!

I've been asking that question for so long, but not even feature is available not yet however. Transferring characters doesn't really involve the console Companies, so it can be done. It costs money and time however.

already been stated that there will be no transfering of characters (at least for release).

As I told someone on the Defiance facebook page, Trion owes us no xbox beta, so be happy that you get it at all.

Um........Yeah they do when they include it as a preorder bonus.

The bonus means if there's a Beta event, then you are guaranteed an invite, not that you are owed a beta. For an MMO, a beta is necessary for stress tests since it's going to be constantly running. But that doesn't mean consumers are owed the early access. Besides, who preorders a game for the Beta? There's a scrip and XP boost, weapon, and a vehicle just with the ED. I thought people got a preorder so they aren't showing up and seeing it's out of stock....

No, what I mean is that Trion does not have to offer a beta for xbox at all, its not a law that they have to, they want to and people should be happy with whatever they get.

Not really responding to anyone here since most of the posters here have a good idea about what's going on, but for those still seething/searching for reasons etc... and because I want to write it somewhere...

The pre-order incentive GUARANTEEs you to be invited to beta. Doesn't matter about length or date, that's it. IF there is a beta you WILL be invited. Getting annoyed now at other threads with people's sense of entitlement.

That feels better, now I can ignore other compensation (ha) / entitlement threads.

I feel both sides are being pretty bad how the beta is being handled. People probably wouldnt be upset if they werent strung along for a couple of months with "news about the beta is coming soon".

For me if we didnt get a beta to try the game before buying I wouldnt have preordered the UE.If they canceled the beta then so was my preorder. I dont care if its only one day, its cool with me as thats plenty of time to get a feel for the game and if its my thing or not.

Ignore the posters saying they don't owe you a thing. You paid for a beta and if they don't give you one you'd have every right to go so far as to file a lawsuit over it. Its called false advertising/bait and switch. You can't do it so it would be helpful if thoose trying to argue they can go read up on the law and come back enlightened. The situation we have now is BARELy legal and totally unethical. Ok heres your beta that nobody can log into because its on a WEEKDAY. But don't worry I am sure you didn't pay for a preorder because you were expecting to IDK actually be able to log into the beta?

We have the RIGHT to file a lawsuit, but nobody would win. When I preordered Defiance, I preordered the game, not expecting to see the beta. I've seen games before that promised one, and for reasons they couldn't help it never happened. I imagine it's hard enough making a game for 3 platforms before you have to deal with the respective companies. As much as I wanted a beta, my purchase wasn't hinged on it.

I miss the good old times when MMOs started to grow and you actually **** yourself of luck if you were invited for the beta. Now there's only complaining, no matter what.

Well as of now we wouldn't because there is a beta. I was saying if they canceled it entirely without offering refunds then somebody who had paid would infact have a grievance. That said this is the next closest thing to beeing criminal. Oh sure XBOX gets a beta as promised but nobody can log into it but for a couple hours IF its up when they are ready. And since most will be trying to log it on primetime the odds of that drop. I mean how do they even expect to get a decent stress test when nobody can log in. None of this makes sense.

Of course it doesn't make sense, it's Microsoft. They like to confuse consumers when they compete against rivals

Could it be possible that the stress test is during the week because it is a global beta and they want to see how the server holds up to people logging in and out all day? Could be why they chose Monday and Tuesday but who really knows.

There's a few things to consider (I've posted about them before, but they obviously got missed)

• Microsoft rarely moves on someone else's schedule, maybe the reason the XBL beta is on mon/tuesday is because that's when microsoft is available.
• You paid for a GAME, not a beta, if you bought just the beta... Then you prove the PC master race is well.. superior. To Include the garaunteed access to the beta is just fluff, to hinge all your hopes and dreams on beta access as your "test drive" to a new car... Wait for someone to write a real review. You arent spending the kind of clams a new car costs, not even close, dont even pretend it is.
• For Trion to offer PC beta keys to all XBL people that want more access, sounds to me like it isn't Trion's fault, otherwise they would just extend the time period. Go bark at Microsoft a lil bit an see if they will make a concession, I bet you wont get one, even if you threaten to goto PSN in your sig.
• I feel for those of you without the ability to take Trion up on the extended PC beta key, due to lack of PC power, but behave yourselves when you voice your opinions. You are disgracing your bretheren from Console-land. Also, get your facts straight, consider the above points, think.
• Any other MMO company I have dealt with, from Bethesda to Blizzard, EA to Bioware, and all the asian MMO's out there, not one, not a single one has been willing to make concesssions like Trion does, or respond as quick, or as honestly.

That being said, bring on the fanboy flames, I have DEFI stickers for armor. But you cant deny common sense all your life. Want to make a real differance? Take the arguement to microsoft. It's their servers, and their time frame, I'm betting that's why the short and awkward beta window.

I hope this doesnt come off as sounding hostile, or imflammatory, but sometimes you need a stern voice to get through thick skulls.

• We paid for a game AND a beta. Its a package. The whole thing is what what bought and a company can't cherrypick what parts of the product you paid for they will actually give you.

Actually if you want to slander Microsoft you do need to offer SOMETHING to justify the conclussion. Your foisting this debacle right at there feet even though its Trions game. And until they say its ms doing it I lay blame at the company who is making the game and running the beta and not a third party. Trion IS shafting XBOXERS(not me because I don't plan to buy it for xbox) weather intentionally or due to poor planning or having no backbone in negotiations with ms or , and I don't believe this is the case but, maliciousness. The point remains we have an unacceptable situation here and failing to rectify this WILL cost them sales. They got allmost 2 weeks to fix it so CHOP CHOP Trion.

edit: boycott? Thats not really my intent but it may very well be the result of them screwing over a large segment of there community. I am just saying I for one won't be paying for a game I can't test ahead of time. If anyone else agrees they can put that in there sig but so far none have.

They also don't have to for the ps3 or pc but doing so for all 3 would cause problems for all 3 versions. I'm not sure if you even understand whats needed to produce a quality product.

Just to make a quick point, I own an XBox, pre-ordered Defiance for Xbox, but if you go to http://www.defiance.com/en/beta/ sledge already stated everyone who goes there will get an emailed code for the pc version, so just play the beta on PC (if your pc can handle it which most can at low settings) and play the xbox version aswell. Thats atleast what I am going to do. :cool:

I'm sorry, I Preordered Before they announced the details of the UE let alone the standard. I'm sorry you feel entitled to a beta that they didn't have to offer in the first place

Dude, CTrain... You dont become a multi-million dollar company by throwing business partners under the bus. If Trion is having problems with Microsoft or ANY other company they're not going to tell a bunch of forum lurkers about it, that's just common business sense. Like with cross-platforming, its beyond doubt that Trion would LOVE to have it, but we don't. One of their business partners threw a wrench in that plan and yet Trion didn't come out blaming anyone. Again standard diplomacy of big business.

I'm kinda upset my thread turned into another complaint thread. I mean WTF I just had to vent that our beta should've been on a weekend because then theirs a chance for people to actually have time to play. That was my ONLY complaint and we went off to this stupid as crap "not/being owed a beta" I get that we have one and it's good, but timing is going to have less people playing, which does breed tension in people, But stop with the trolling for godsake!

So if anything you just said about MS was true, why buy defiance for xbox at all? I mean by your logic xbox wont get updates on time , xbox wont get anything because MS wont let trion do it. Everything you just said was BS. Xbox not getting a longer beta because its not needed. The test for xbox has already been done. Only reason there is a beta on xbox because they promise one.

sorry but getting a pc beta to xbox players is not really going to help. If xbox owners had a good pc in the first place they wouldnt buy it on xbox .. Thats like saying here xbox players take this ps3 beta code.

I know the Xbox/PC are disappointed that it's only 2 days or so that we get to test, but look at it this way. Since the testing time is so short they must have everything pretty solid and just need to stress test the servers a bit. I'd be worried if I were a PS3 person, "6 days of beta testing this close to release, how much crap do they still need to fix on PS3".

Haha yeah isnt it funny where a thread can lead to. I dont know if Im showing my age or not but I remember a time when you couldnt pre-order games, didnt get demos/betas, and had to wait for a review/your friend's house to try and buy a game. During that time, we also had Game Genie with the code books and no internet haha.

The game comes out in less than three weeks people. We are almost there and we'll all be fighting side by side taking down Raiders and Hellbugs. Looking forward to it!
