I love the fact that Nim was a challenge and think he should be left alone. And personally I like running in groups and chatting while playing, it's the whole reason I do MMO's.

Chat is pretty much completely broken. Simply going into a menu can break the chat and have it so that people can hear you/you can't hear them/nobody can hear anyone/.
My friends and I actually wanted to go through a few instances but don't feel like having to go through completely muted from each other as soon as the instance loads and have to each restart our PS3s a few times to get it to work but just happen again next time a loading screen pops up.
Edit:
My bad, forgot I was on the PC section so you may not have this issue.
Try Wizardry online, if u want fear death and find ppl for grouping.
I agree with all your points, I don't understand how this game got out of alpha without a chat window like every other mmo that works and is persistent on the screen. Its as if this team was living in a locked building outside of contact with the Rift team, there are soooo many things you were like WHY DID THEY DO THIS?! They could have copy pastad so much from rift into this game and it would have made things so much better... oh wells... I look to the future, Rift had a brutal first 2 / 3 months and then it really hit its stride imo but it could kill the hype of this game when the first season ends if the game does not get going and then the show breaks for season 2.
i always group with me frend auria (tom), all we do is strategy based gunfights, we usualy snipe from afar and when things get close the one without agro pops em off with the rifle (we sit a distance apart) or they switch guns and blow em away seems to work wonders untill the tanker shows up and thinks its all fun and games bringing a rpg to a sniper fight lol :-p
1. Put out product
2. Gain customer base, doesn't matter if its group or solo
3. Make money
4. ???
5. PROFIT!!!! Welcome to the real world of modern gaming. Been there, done that with the EQ where you had a community down on through CoH/V which by 2005 became solo, now its just easier to put out a product and make the quickest buck possible and if it tanks....try to make as much money to cover the production cost and what ever else came after pads the wallet. Everyone seems to "But there is crap community, chat is broken, and no one chats over a mic!" yet you forget...how often in real life do you stop and chat with random people on the street....probably not often, cause its irritating when someone interrupts your life to stop you in your tracks....don't see why its no different in a video game or on the street that people prefer their little own life then socializing with complete strangers.
So instead of complaining that there is a lack of community, try to either make friends which most often fails or just bring close friends with you to the Next(tm) game out there...don't complain and "Back in my day, we used dial up both ways up hill...GET OFF MY LAWN YOU WHIPPER SNAPER!!!". Personally, I wish I can strangle everyone who with their headseat that leaves their mic on...so far its either Starscream, wierd origional Star Trek like sound effects, or some dumb mother f-er who is getting yelled at by their parent or child is screaming in the backround or their damn dog barking. FFS, PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR DAMN MIC!
I think the whole issue with chat was that VOIP was to replace chat/typing. You don't have typing in xbox and psp. You don't have typing in any call of duty or halo type games. This was that model so they figured chat was irrelevant. I bet you no one from the xbox/ps peeps are complaining about chat window. :-) The problem is two fold. One, PC players are mmo players and generally we prefer chatting to talking. Don't know why. Call it creature of habit type thing but it is what it is. Second, VOIP sucks. :-)
No offense to fellow PC gamers here but you guys do know this is a console port game. As in, make for the console crap then tweak a little to make it get by just enough for PC. I would love that all consoles burn, DIAF. (Not the people, just the consoles.) Consoles did bring out some games but now they breed so called "gamers" that wouldn't know how to play a real game. And so, console ports are whats killing community, skill and teamwork and challenge. And, dare I say it, killing PC gaming. Its fun to challenge a (cough) console "gamer" to play a PC game and in most cases have no clue how to play or finish something. Then they want to find a cheat or hack because it actually takes SKILL to do it. Skill would build teamwork and teamwork builds community for MMO's. But like many have stated, the mass money is in the masses. And that is the death of real games anymore.
This game is really fun. I like it as a better way to do a MMO, not the mindless rotation number combo from the WoW clones now. You have to aim, move, dodge, hide and tactics to make it happen. But making it for consoles then just getting by to work on PC and what I hate.
