Usually they don't use that kind of data, but if your show (GoT and Dr Who for example) occupies the top 3-4 spots for number of seeders after a couple of hours of airing, that is a good sign..

First off.. NBC doesn't handle ANY of the Wrestling shows.. so that's a moot point.
Secondly.. For some reason, SyFy decided to run this head to head against a wrestling show.. Monday Night RAW.. who consistantly has the highest ratings of any show on Mondays, and has for quite some time. Not exactly the best move, however putting it in the line-up with Lost Girl is a really good idea, since Lost Girl has quite the fan base and viewership.
The rating system is called the "Neilson's".. and an average benchmark for shows on premier is a 2.5, which Defiance did hit. To think of this in terms people can understand, Two and a Half Men (a show I can't stand) didn't premier at that level, but DID hit it and maintain it during the "Sheen-Trials". The numbers are really a mish-mash of how to rate anything with the way I understand it. Now, ratings DO mean Dollars for TV companies, and with a 2.5 million viewer mark on a pilot.. that really wasn't heavily marketed by normal shows standards, is pretty damn good. The numbers for foreign markets doesn't get to play that big of a factor, as they have a different viewer rating standard than the Neilsens.
So.. 2.5 million viewers.. on a show going head to head to Monday Giant WWE's RAW.. yeah, I'd say that's a damn impressive start. WTG Defiance and SyFy!
The one perk that Defiance has over a lot of shows in terms of finding viewership is that Xfinity is a sponser...owned by NBC...who owns SyFy...which means they can have ACTUAL specific numbers of who watched Defiance with Comcast cable.
Doooom... Doooom... DOOOOOOOMMMMM!!!!
The article uses the cost for the entire endeavor ($100M) and doesn't take into account revenue from the game, just possible revenue based on viewership of the TV show.
The writer of that article had some numbers but didn't seem all that familiar with the subject matter.
The thirst for knowledge found in all humans means that we need to keep up to date on who's pretending to be angry at whom, which female wrestlers have recently gotten breast implants and who will nearly be killed in a mock accident or evil plot. I stopped watching back in the early '90s when the Undertaker nearly killed the Ultimate warrior. My 11 year old heart couldn't taken such fake excitement.
Don't get me wrong. I like the show; love playing the game. Just don't
think 2.7 Million is that much for the amount of money that it cost to make
the show and all the advertisement they did.
Think it should have done better. All the other show you guys are taking about
never cost this much. Was hoping to see around 3.0 millions. Just my opinion.
Op ; I take it you never watch the walking dead first season until it went to netflix, because that was it first season ratings and now it is the highest rated show in all of TV. Cable and Network Tv.
Great thing about cable is they set there standards low, and understand how to build a show up, The key for this show is how well will they handle the first season and will they make sure it easy as hell for everyone to catch up and watch it for the second season.
