Speaking objectively (as much as you can with a subjective thing as a 'review,' I think the game's right about 6 or so, yeah.

An average game, maybe a little better, but not by a lot. And this is from someone who is still having quite a lot of fun with the game, and glad he bought it, but I'm not going to sugarcoat the issues that the game is fraught with still. The good is balanced out by the bad -- hence: average score.

I personally enjoy this game very much and have put a great amount of time in it already. Something I plan to keep on doing.

But a 5.9 was being generous.

IGN gave Defiance a bad score because Trion doesn't PAY for reviews. IGN only gives good reviews to people who pay for tons of ads.

I think they spent their money mostly on publicity for the first episode. And didn't have enough for more than a 5.9.

There are 14 other review sites which gave Defiance average scores.

This might have been brought up but I'm gonna post this anyway bc I'm lazy...
Due to IGN and other review sites they've had more pull over the sales of games more so than advertisements, gameplay vids and word of mouth and they've finally noticed it. When anyone posts a review subconsciously you mark it as "I know what to expect" and once it goes around and gets pulled out of context people decide not to buy or pick up the game. Sadly I'm one of the few that follows ign daily and where as they have accurate information about the indestry and electronics alike they have now taken a low road into Neglecting reviews of bad games while posting reviews of games with obvious commercial success weeks ahead of time and waiting to post their reviews of the lesser once other games receive their initial sales. Most recently some of my friends bought Army Of Two and the new Sniper game which both (to ign) are weak, the sad thing is they enjoyed the game but once the review came out they threw it away quoting the bad that other reviews had given it and stated "If I would have known ahead of time it was bad I wouldn't have purchased it.". Which leads to why IGN and other game review site wait to release reviews on some more so than posting them the day before they are released as they have in the past. They have found out. Reviews are helpful but a review is based on one persons interpretation of anything to the reviewer it may be trash but to an unknowing consumer it may be one of the funist games they've played. In my personal decision making I consider their review as just an opinion, thing is everyone in the world is entitled to their opinion. Now, should their opinion influence you on deciding to try a game/electronic out? No it shouldn't. But it does.

    IGN
    On PC.
    Unreliable 5.9
Shows favoritism to mainstream games and products. Due to unreliability makes it hard to recommend.

IGN gave Rift an 8.5 (Great), which was actually slightly higher than the user score (8.2).

So, out of curiosity, is it your contention that Trion did pay for reviews with Rift, or that IGN only became the spawn of Satan when they didn't give a game you liked the score you wanted?

Edit: BTW, IGN gave Storm Legion an 8.3 (Great), just over 4 months ago.

To everyone crying tears over the review.....did it deserve a 5.9? No, probably not. How about anywhere in the 6 range? Absolutely. It IS a fun game but it has so many issues it's not even funny and I wouldn't even know where to start. SOLID shooting mechanics (important), mediocre everywhere else. What surprised me is that the guy said PvP was a strong point of the game (****)

Anyways, this new 'miracle patch' didn't do anything worthwhile and didn't fix a lot of crap that needed to be fixed. So yes, the game was unfortunately rushed to make the show's premiere and it IS obvious.

With that being said, I'm not giving up on this game because I know it DOES have massive potential still. However, these 'professional' reviews can't review a game based on what it CAN be but with what they already have.
