@daholic Erm did you not read the bottom of that post you just quoted on?? it really is starting to become clear the people who have played this game and those that just jump on the reviewers band wagon, I agree with a lot of people that this forum should be for players of the game who want yo help Trion make this game as great as we all want it to be

Well been playing since april 11 pve and seen very little bugs at all so no idea where all that tlak is from except pvp however i still wouldn't give the game more than a 7.5 to be honest. I mean it's addictive and it's fun but it needs polished still. I enkoy it so I guess regardless of it's score I will continue playing it.

I will definitely agree that the prices of bit items is too high. Especially since it is just slightly recolored versions of items you can find in the game.
I think it's kinda silly to dislike a review site just because they didn't agree with your own opinion. But, then again, anyone that reviews has quite different tastes and such than others. That's why I always use metacritic.com

Not only do you see what MULTIPLE critic sites have said, and it averages them together, but you also see what hundreds or so of consumers have said. Of course, there's always the occasional obligatory butthurt fanboi that by the droves goes and attacks a game they dont like in order to bring the score down, but for the most part you should be able to sift between the two. It's easy to get a good look at what a lot of people think. And gives a broader image than just one critic site. I never rely on only one site to let me know about a game. After all, i believe IGN still gives CoD great scores every time, but that doesn't mean that EVERY review they have is completely off the mark.
I agree with metacritic that it should have around a 6.5. Not terrible. But not bright and shining. I'm hoping it has the capabilities to get up to 8 or 8.5 later. But right now, I'm still not playing the game because of lack of new content, which I know will be coming around EVENTUALLY. So I'm content playing one of the hundred of other games I own, currently being Rift. Thank you for that blast of a game Trion. Really enjoying it.

Okay while i see your points let me say
1: Its an mmo not a singleplayer game, its an mmo that was released about 3 weeks ago now its expected that there will be bugs that were not caught on beta testing because sadly enough no one actually does what they are suppose to do in a beta test which is report bug. Besides any mmo upon release will have bugs and even later on after release will still have bugs but not game breaking
2:For co op missions if you dont feel like running running to the group just leave and join another, the option is there use it.
3: Cannot really argue with the pvp but then again what shooter does not have unbalanced gameplay mechanics in multiplayer, i am just playing for pursuits.
4: Your thing on bits, well they offer sooooo many outfits just by the completion of pursuits it makes me think you didnt actually look at all the options available outside microtransactions that the game offers.
5:Lets be honest here if your looking for originality within a game or anything it is very hard to come by these days seeing as how almost everything has already been done, what your supposed to do is see how they take a concept already done and see the world that has been shaped around it.
Glad some people feel the same way! If it was Call of Defiance or Gears of War: Defiance then IGN would've rated this game 8+
The metascore is so low because reviewers in general don't love the game in its current state as much as I do. Plus they have no way of anticipating how good or bad future content will be so can't allow for it. Whereas with me I have high hopes.
They are precisely paid to tell us what they like and dislike about a game. Game reviews are honest opinions about a game. I actually agree with some of the mediocre reviews of the game and would give it a 6/10 myself. Sure, I've had fun while playing with friends and it isn't all bad, but there isn't a whole lot of good here either. The whole experience is a little lackluster and I can see where the reviewers are coming from. Everyone has a different benchmark for what makes a great game, and I can see that a lot of people here love the game, but I am unfortunately not one of them. It didn't help that I beat Bioshock Infinite right before this game came out. Going from playing an amazing game to one that is okay at best makes it look that much worse.Quote:

How did they get 5.5? Apparently not the reviewers type of game . There is nothing like it on any consoles atm . For that alone it should get a little higher score. I mean give Trion some credit I haven't seen any other company pull off anything like this on consoles .I keep hearing about mmo shooters coming to the 360 but they never get finished . Something I've quickly noticed is that people are first going to pay attention to all the bugs and problems, rather than looking to the potential of the game AFTER bug fixes. You think WoW was perfect when it first came out? Noooooo. Bugs and crashes ALL over. EVERYWHERE. And now, WoW is used as the basis for what people think a game should be. (Which to my mind is incredibly pathetic, considering WoW wasn't all that enjoyable to me, and it is but one style of MMO.)
One thing I have against Defiance at this moment is draw distance. If I can snipe someone at 600m or more in Battlefied 3, I should be able to do the same damn thing in Defiance. :S But that doesn't stop me from playing what is potentially a good game, I just feel it puts a huge leash on sniping. Why put in snipers if you can only see something like.. 150m away before people disappear?

i am also trully disappointed by the reviews this game has gotten and the endless complaints i have seen on forums and in reviews.
the fact is that the gaming community today has become cynical,hypocritical and downright ignorant. its as if the community is a 90 year old man stuck in his ways. if the game isn't a clone of something they know (cod,WoW,ect) they aren't happy. i remember the days when we were happy just to have a new title.
in many of the reviews i have seen ppl making comments on things they think defiance lacks based on other mmos/3d shooters.
let me make one thing clear to all of you, this game isn't you common mmo. it isn't your common shooter. this isn't your common 3rd person shooter. this isn't anything you've seen before "so stop trying to compare it to anything else!".
just because this game has a mmo pedigree doesn't mean you can make that type of comparison.

not to mention the fact that the gaming press has become immensely corrupt. through corporate sponsorship and back room clubs the true heart of this reporting has been broken beyond repair
putting all of this aside lets look at the facts.
i personally can count the on 1 hand the mmos that have ever been put on a console
so all you naysayers out there should be thanking your lucky stars for Trion

moving on lets list the true pros and cons here
not the ignorant crap from (insert reviewer here _______) and all these other prepubescent morons out there reviewing this game from their limited tunnel vision.
Pros:
1) first true original open world mmo on consoles to-date
2) its a new IP with a TV show tie-in which promises to added new content as the show progresses. not to mention the show is pretty decent, with a line up of familiar actors. i personally enjoyed the show and have watched it many times.
3) no other game in history can say they have done anything close to #2 on this list of pros lol
4) the combat is solid most shooters especially mmo shooters get that wrong in some way or another.
98% of the reviews i have read and watched (i read and watched about 40 or so ) have stated that same opinion so kudos trion (home run!!)
and in my opinion combat is the single most important thing in any shooter. all other things are just cream
5) 64 vs 64 pvp on a consoles and its a shooter to boot ..... enough said (Trion drops the mic and walks off the stage ) every other competitive multi-player game on consoles just got punked trion hit a home run with this one
6) the game has a gun that spawns bugs in your head and then they eat you alive rofl!!!!! if that doesn't sell you on defiance you don't have a pulse
7) dynamic cooperative world events...... enough said
8) guns guns guns and O wait.......... more guns!!!!!! its like well you know what game has 10000 million guns it start with a B but in this game u actually care about your gear because there is real pvp element not just some dueling system lol
9) a skill tree that actually makes sense. for a mmo thats the holy grail ... even the granddaddy of mmos which will not be name because of forum rules but we know who it is i have a lvl 85 rogue lol gets that wrong lol (home run Trion!!!)
10)the games not done yet if rift is any kind of indication we have much more content to come.
11) in my opinion trion wil support this game with patchs and updates that will satisfy even the most extreme critics
Cons:
1) bugs/glitchs/ exploits........ you know what you crybabies its a new mmo i have never seen a mmo that didnt have these problems at the start.... your just making your selves look stupid by crying about it
2) Non-coherent and spacey story line/ lore .... i never played Wow for the story line and any one that did was a big geek thats right i said it your down right freaks so get over it. the show is there to tell the story and that obvious to any one thats paying attention. so watch the show period!
3) repetitive game content (example) enemies, arkfall events, quest structure ect. ........after 15 + yrs of gaming i have yet to find a mmo style game that wasn't repetitive in some way Ie. the biggest mmo that we all know the name of has all kinds of repetitive crap not to mention Korean mmos that amount to one huge grind fest.
repetitive content is just part of the genre so if you cant handle the heat get out of the kitchen.
4) frustrating UI ... well its a mmo on a consoles meant to be played on a console so for all you pc gamers out there shut your mouth and go buy a controller.
5) problematic chat system and shooty voice chat .... i 100% agree with this gripe... just fix it trion this is unacceptable in a game of this nature you need to have easy communication in a mmo period. and we shouldn't have to use clan chat or use 3rd party systems
6) lack luster Graphics..... ok hold on let me get my slapping stick back out ....i have heard about 40 different complaints about this in reviews/videos ect. and you know what its just .
im not sure what ppl are comparing this to but as far as mmos go these gfx are right on par with what you would expect. its a multi platform game sacrifices have to be made period.
7) no real end game.....well duh stupid!!!.... the brand new mmo tied into a new show doesn't have a end game..... lol wow im so surprised!...i swear some ppl are just so stupid they should be sterilized.
8) stupid AI .....rofl its a mmo i cant think of one mmo that has smart AI i mean you may think its smart but that just makes you stupid
the game has smart bosses for the most part and thats pretty much in line with every game out there so just be quiet crybabies.
9) framrate issues ...100% agree im not sure what you can do about this trion the engine is alrdy on the disc but you need to try something.
10 ) problematic party system and quest sharing ....100% agree fix it please we need something that is more intuitive. the current system makes it hard to play with friends... dont get me wrong its not all bad but it could use a little polish
11)no social areas ... big towns ect. ok i agree with this one too we need a place to gather trade sell stuff and just be mmo frobs give us a market or a auction house or a nightclub or something
12) lag ..... yup agree with this one too i have a 100 meg line i don't lag in anything unless its the games fault so yes 100% agree you need to fix the server matrix and boost the bandwidth trion this is unacceptable when its ur fault especially in shadow wars and pvp
well thats it for my pros and cons. i can say this... the game has gotten a bad rap because ppl are comparing it to games that frankly it cant be compared to.
i think trion gave us a great gift and judging from rift they will make this game BA eventually. rift started out rough and then cleaned up real nice so i have faith in trion and i for one am a fan.

To think this whole thread is because someone got mad at IGN for giving this game a mediocre review. Their review is based on the product at hand is it not? They gave it a middle of the road score. What would you guys hating on them actually score the game? Had I bought this off of a review that gave it a 9 i would be pissed at that review. In it's current state, at tops I would have given it a 6.5. Something new shouldn't get a high score just for being new.
It got a bad review due to the state it was in at release, when IGN would have reviewed it. I'm sure in a few months time, the rating WOULD be slightly different, but it probably is going to stay rated as it is, since nobody is going to come back and review it again, except maybe the OXM, since they occasionally go back and re-review games' online capabilities.
personally, i'm a "try the demo first" kind of person. But in some cases, including defiance, when no demo is available(i didn't play the beta), i usually go with Game Informer's reviews. To me, the seem fair about their reviews, so i trust them. But in this case, i was excited to play an MMO on a console, and defiance caught my eye. That and the fact it's got a tv show really drew me in.

i dont get the hooplah about high prices, The high priced outfits are available through heavy pursuits, lol. Im still enjoying the game tons for team grinds, I will however admit that if outfits are to play the role or atleast part of/ the progression in the game than the fact that everyones a cloned low texture survivalist is offputting knowing we work so hard for the gear. The loot grind is a good accompaniment but if pursuits dont turn into something more current and continuous, than a community striving for the same final outfit isn't gonna have alot to talk about between arkfalls. I dont mind sidequest grinding but i find it odd so many have such different names..should implement some quest suppliers to eliminate the oddity of similar quests spread apart only differing 1000, 2000 xp
IGN reviews are always terrible and predictable. COD, Halo, Gears 9/10 or 10/10..... Other great games 8/10. That's not a site I go to to get game reviews. Learned that early on!
Well Its already been said. But i'll say it again
The game is missing content. People who have been playing from day one of release are extremely bored from the constant grinding with little reward. Players need a REASON to grind. Thats what MMO s are about.
I can handle the bugs... enemies shooting through walls, invisible enemies, ect. All that stuff can be fixed. But unless they make the game more in depth and add more MMO content (like a banking system for loot, an auction hall, a crafting system) Nothing will change and the game will remain a flop.
Which might just happen... They have your money. We aren't paying for online play, so obviously they aren't making any more money off of you. Why would they pay programmers to make new content for a game that isn't bringing in any more money. That's BASIC economics.

prob because defiance didnt "PAY" to have advertisement via IGN and the MSN Xbox splash login screen. Relying on SyFy TV show SyFy media promotion. Let the people & gamers decide overtime.
There are worse games/consoles out there but the mainstream media will forever drive it home like its the best thing since white bread & the toaster.
I donno just a guess prob wrong but whatever. I'm enjoying the game (Xbox platform) the population is very strong any hour of the day/night. Only concern is what will happen when 720 comes out. Will I be able to move my character over to the 720.
I'm glad I returned my PC UE of defiance, from the surface of their part of the forum it's absolute hell,hack & chaos over there.
I kinda think it was all about the $$$$ before the launch. Besides Microsoft Xbox hates indie developers but that's just from what I see as a consumer & shareholder.
I think the game and show idea will generate $$$$ and other gaming companies will eventually be creating similar. People said iphone was going to suck and it was even hacked right after release .... Look what eventually happend. iPhone idea made $$$$.
Well that's the most common opinion of this site is that the reviewers of this game tend to keep to their guns without playing the game after the patch came out or with out the DLC which is coming out, Which is why so many good games get bad reviews by IGN and other such sites and it is very poor reviewing,also people who play it for 10mins then trade it in saying it's too hard or not good enough looking and then slag it off dont understand it's not a finished product,also @basis this whole post is not because i got mad with IGN for giving the game a bad score it's about how bad the reviewing on sites is these days and the amount of people who agree shows i'm not alone in my thoughts so maybe in the future you should think before writing mindless posts which quite frankly make you look a idiot
