The IGN review comes from a guy who gave Diablo a 9+ and didn't even play it all the way through and nobody takes Gamespot for more than a grain of salt after Kane & Lynch, the fail Global Agenda review which was pulled because the guy didn't play and the latest review that was pulled.

Global Agenda... I freaking loved that game before they tried to add the exploration zones.

IGN loves everything mainstream. It doesn't matter that the last 4 Call of Duty's have sucked. According to IGN, they each redefine gaming every single year. You cannot and should not take them seriously. Defiance provides far more bang for your buck than some measly single-player romp like Bioshock.

To your original query; ask Black Isle and Bethesda how long it took to make Fallout 3 and how they managed to make it so pristine and bugless. Or Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim. Or Bioware and Kotor/Mass Effect/Dragon Age. Oh that's right. They didn't. Still rather fine games, on the whole.

so you're basically trying to compare defiance(a game that they spent 105million on and took almost 5 years to make) to any of the games you just named??!! You're joking right? I would agrue that all the games you just named have more/better content than defiance. I think the game is a solid 6 and yeah i'm having fun playing it but even if there weren't bugs, and the game played as it should there just isn't that much there to keep the average game interested. The niche players/hardcore/fanboys can get 100 hours out of it which is cool, but the majority of us will get 30-40hrs max and will come back and check out some dlc. The fact that the game isn't that great has nothing to do with the fact that's it's an mmo in its infancy, other than combat it just ain't that fun.

Basis of every quest ever written.

A defend the hill quest: Kill this. Now kill this. Now kill this. Now kill this. Come back and talk to me.

A gather materials quest: Kill this. Find that. Kill this. Find that. Kill this. Find that. Come back and talk to me.

A "story" quest: Talk to that person. Talk to that person. Talk to that person. Come back and talk to me. Talk to that person. Come back and talk to me. [Cutscene]

A detective quest: Find that. Find that. Find that. Put it there. Talk to this person. Talk to this person. Find that. Find that. Talk to this person. Come back and talk to me.

Could they have hidden their quest mechanics beneath story and fluff more than they have currently? Yes. Do people generally just click through such fluff? Yes.

Yup because it's not like games have gotten to the point were they have epic storylines(Mass effect) or suprise twists(heavy rain) or inventive combat(god of war). So i'll just got to an arkfall now and shoot a crystal tell it gives me stuff.

I played Bioshock Infinite and it was truly wonderful. Well-crafted environment, and the plot made you want to protect Elizabeth. Her persona was very well-developed. The combat isn't its strongest point, but its story was just amazing to me. For a singleplayer game it was really fun. I managed to play through the game with minimum glitches. So a 9.7 score is warranted.

Defiance is also fun, but the amount of bugs and broken things make me feel like it wasn't given enough time for development and addressing of bugs, etc. Another notable thing is that your character is forever mute, and therefore it makes your character seem like an extra in a movie, only nodding when asked a question. So is a 5.5 warranted? I'd say at its present condition with all the bugs and glitches, maybe. I'd give it a 6 for the overall idea. But after they have patched everything, a re-review might give it a higher score.

Okay name off the professional reviews that are waiting to review the game!

Compared to a field full of lizardmen. You kill one. You pick up loot. It respawns.

Or a field of boars and sabretooth cats in equal numbers, carefully spaced. Next to each other. Ignoring each other. You kill them. They respawn.

The large monsters (Raider Hulk) in Defiance are comparable to BAMs in Tera or dungeon bosses in other MMOs in terms of AI and player avoidance.

And frankly, I've a half dozen builds in mind to try that completely change what my character does due to synergies, which I won't even be able to unlock for another month or two at my current play time.

Okay dude if you want to say that the game is fun that's one thing, but NO ONE CAN ARGUE ABOUT THE POOR LANDSCAPES. Everythings looks dead and the non of the buildings in san franciso are to scale(my character head is about where the first story roof would be). I said if before, I like the game, but you when you sit back and act like everything is great and nothings wrong with it............just makes you sound like a.........nah i won't go there.

To be honest. Why even compare MMO with a singleplayer? two really different gamestyles and uses different bases. And MMOs will always have more bugs than singleplayers so don't put defiance down just because of those. It's simply stupid to compare these 2 games.
