I couldn't express my viewpoints because I was afraid that my superiors would see me as a conscientious objector, and I would face court martial. When I was deployed to Afghanistan for nearly a year(was supposed to be a six month deployment, but they extended it to 9 months)I could tell that in some people's eyes we were not welcome over there. I could see it on the faces of the people we were supposed to be helping. I joined the Army to live up to my grandfather's name who was a Colonel in the US Army and had fought in World War II and the Korean War. When I was in the Army, I quickly saw that this was not the same Army that my grandfather had served in. The NCOs cared more about their own paycheck and getting a promotion to the next pay grade than they did about the welfare of the soldiers underneath them. The war that we fought(and are still fighting)really was Bush Jr's way of having revenge on Saddam Hussein for Saddam trying to assassinate his father. There are times when I want to move to another country, maybe the UK(as I spent 2 weeks there and in Ireland when I was 18 as a graduation present from my parents and it was beautiful there)or Japan...
