My question is does scrip serve any real purpose?
It seems like there is little to purchase, I'm at the point where I'm getting "wealthy" and I realize that there are no special items to buy, at this point I'm thinking it makes more sense to convert all my scrip into Ark shards.
Sure, if you get 3million or so you can retire to Antarctica. :)
You answered your own question. You use it to buy stuff. If you cant find stuff to buy, you can spend it on shards.

I haven't seen shards for sale in lockboxes o.0, as for Scrip i used it to respec my points to complete pursuits or buy weapons to breakdown if i need the extra salvage for upgrades or for trades.
Ugh Ignore me I haven't had my first cup of coffee yet. No you cant buy directly. Buying other stuff and breaking it down is the only way.
Most of it goes into respecc's for me.
Eventually we will have a player based market, right now people are salvaging but eventually they will have the weapons etc that they want and you will see more Epics and Legendary for sale by players. One of the keys to loot is it is not static so it is much more likely you will find that ultimate weapon for your specific needs through the community.
Unless you hit a cap of some sort I would just hold it and keep checking the selling and trading forum.
I actually have like 5x the amount of Ark Salvage then I do scrip...
According to Nolan, 90K scrip is enough for Antartica.
I'm currently waiting for the next stratocarrier, my days of Arkhunting are over :D
You know whats funny is that irisa and nolan worked so hard to get that matrix thing that was worth 90 thousend script each but I made more then that in two weeks tops and they have been doing that alot longer then me! There suckish
