Judging by the number of 360 pre-orders which stands at 32k in my opinion this doesn't look 2 bright. I know that many people do not pre order and just go buy product but still for a MMO and 2 weeks launch window this looks extremely poor-ish

Maybe you didn't notice this is Defiance forum...So we are all looking for this game...And i won't loosing my time trying to explain this is a new IP ,a MMO,ect...Time will tell.

I have nothing but good feelings about this game..kinda like the build up of anticipation for Mass Effect-which turned out to be an amazing game.
I think Defiance will be a quieter hit than traditional AAA titles, and i think it will go on to be a cult classic.
Agreed, and I think a lot of people will be holding back to see how it does on console in the first week. (Especially 360 as they're isn't really anything to compare it to). I don't think this is the type of game that needs to worry about first week sales as it will gradually pick up a decent sized cult following.Quote:

Here here! Cult games are always less successful, but have a great following. I mean, Star Trek and Star Wars were cult followed until they hit more limelight recently. Now look at them, both box office hits and huge names. Household names you might even call them. Here is to hoping Defiance end up that way after some time.Quote:

I know its a sleeper-hit. Premium MMOs arent that common and this is shooter and tv-show. Not to mention timing is perfect again, all big things are in the past and ESO isnt even coming until later this year.
People told the same crap about Rift, and guess what its still sub-based game and made tons of money for TW.
Btw, you Xbox guys should be happy Defiance is climbing up from Amazon's top 100. Nothing on PC and PS3 yet. Amazon is one of the biggest sellers, if it doesnt reach top 10, its fail.
I remember back in November '04 a game was a big deal with the fan base who knew about it but they didn't really crank the heat on advertisement until after initial launch as they had a few bugs to sort out and what not, but eventually the ads came and they grew... Still doing fine too.
I saw a video while at Gamestop when i was purchasing Tomb Raider lol... got to BS'n with the guy who works there and saw the vid a cpl more times. I saw ppl killing giant bugs...I'm a huge Starship Troopers fan so killing giant bugs looks like a blast to me.
I help run another gaming forum and i think One or two of the guys from our site will be picking it up.
Last year my sleeper game was Dragon's Dogma. Perhaps in 2013 it'll be Defiance!
It will do well. Plus if the show is good then more ppl will want to play the game since the two are link.

I don't think it will be DOA. I do think, like any MMO, it will have alot to prove the first few weeks. You'll know if it is going somewhere after about 2 weeks of launch. SciFy has an extremely bad record of canceling shows without warning leaving the series to end on cliffhangers so I do fear for the tv show side of things. Not that scify makes bad tv but just that they may very well drop the show without warning after 1 season if it doesn't perform regardless of the games performance. One of the risks of this transmedia deal I guess.
I think a lower population at the start is a blessing. It will ease the stress on the servers and allow the community to find bugs, glitches etc without a server reset every 2 hours. If the game is good (i think it will be) then the population will grow by word of mouth and reviews (Dragons Dogma).
My only concern for the game is that the next gen systems will be out later this year . . . .
The good thing though is that while the game and show are connected, they do not need each other and one could go on without the other. In the game's case, if the show gets cancelled Trion could make an expansion to tie up any loose ends or plots.Quote:

Besides the SyFy network, I don't see alot of adverts except the occasional show trailer. Since it's a new IP, opinion on the game should change when it's released and word of mouth spreads. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
On the subject of canceling shows, SyFy doesn't usually cancel shows in their premiere season. the only network i've known that cancels good shows in the first season is FOX (RIP Firefly, Terra Nova, Alcatraz) So the Defiance show should be safe.
I'm sure you are all over thinking this. Many games weren't well known or liked before release yet some how became a huge deal. I am pretty sure the game will take off on release :)
