Can someone explain what this synergy is?
It is driving me crazy how there was no help in game (or not easy to find) and that I'm having to post a thread in the forums to get help. I've tried looking at other threads and sites but it's still hard to explain. Even the manual for my game has nothing in it. Come on Trion!

What is this synergy that I can see on my purple and orange weapons? Do I have to activate them somehow, do I have to be outlaw to unlock the outlaw ones? I didn't think our origin mattered in this game other than background story.

Also there is synergy on some mods too, how do these work? All I've been doing is putting whatever mods I come around and add them to my weapons.

Synergy is a weapon boost that usually requires that you either possess a second weapon to go with it, or certain mods to give it additional function. For example, the survivalist rifle and handgun, give each other a bonus when you have them both active as part of your load out. Weapons that offer synergy should say what you need to do just below the weapon name.

Yea I have never seen where it tells you what you need under the name

If you watch the live streams, they have a world of info in them. go back and watch some of them. Also most of the online places like defiance central have tons of info on things like this.

    Synergy made simple

Simply, its a set of boosts that can be activated two ways.

Way 1 . To activate those extra boosts, add a mod that is part of that synergy set, eg: if you have a shotgun with brutal synergy, put mods on it that are for brutal synergy to get the bonuses.

Only run n gun and brutal synergies of this type drop from the synergy lock boxes. The others are either bugged or not in game.

Each faction vendor has a specific synergy type that you can only get via their synergy mod cashes. This includes prepared, scavenger, etc.

Way 2 this form of synergy provides one bonus instead of 4

This one can be noticed by only one bonus listed instead of 4 . An example of this is the outlaw synergy.

To activate, equip 2 weapons with the same synergy, eg: you have a shotgun with outlaw and a rifle with outlaw. Equip both to gain the effect.

Do both weapons with same synergy have to be in the same loadout or can they be in separate ones? (synergy: outlaw, one in loadout 2 and one in loadout 4).

when u have 2 of a same synergy u will see the difference, I think what this guy meant is the numbers next to the effects the synergy has.. E.g. (2. 10% melee damage) means u need 2 of the same synergy to get that effect.. Or some of the mods come with synergy, find one with same synergy and add it to the gun..

    Can someone else confirm this?

    Same loadout.

the other ones are in game. there are ones at the VBI, top notch, east shore. they are not bugged they work. I have my assassin infector that works.

    example:

    VBI auto pistol synergy outlaw
1 10% ammo reload on last shot in clip
2 20% ammo reload on last shot in clip
3 5% crit when shields are full
4 10% crit when shield are full

If you add 1 outlaw mod to this gun you get the first perk, add 2 mods with outlaw get the 2nd and so on.

the other way is if you have two weapons both with outlaw as the standard then you get the first perk.

Ah thanks guys, I think I understand it now. It was boiling my head before as there wasn't anything I could find to help me with this in the game. Now it sort of reminds me of like WoW's gear sets when you get buffs depending on how much of the gear your wearing.

I was referring to synergies like quartermaster, not the faction specific ones.
