It all depends on the quality of the content released I think. If the new content just consists of collect-a-thons like the armistice day stuff then I see this game dying very fast for those who have been there since launch. However new co-op and PvP maps and compelling new missions fleshing out the world and characters more without having to just "press X to interact" would do much to extend the life of the game.

We need more modes, both PvP and PvE! Capture the flag on a Shadow Wars sized map! Dedicated Horde mode! More dependence on co-op mechanics instead of just shoot-banging together on a long hallway!

I don't know where this will be in a year. Personally i'll either be using a ps4 or back in pc gaming. This is a pretty incredible mmo for how old and outdated the xbox is in it's computer parts. The question is will xbox-next be worse than the ps4 in terms of hardware or will they blow ps4 out of the water.

FFXI seems to still have a big fan base and it's on ps2 tech. What will kill defiance is lack of cross platform and the fact that it can't really be done as it's skill based and no one can argue that keyboard and mouse will always be faster and more accurate than a controller.

I expect to see a crafting system and a lot of neat extras but this game is still a baby and has a long way to grow. The biggest complainers flock to forums and make a big deal over things that have been seen before countless times. This game will be a lot more fun later but have the same content. New content will show up for each season but everything depends on if the show will stay alive or die like firefly. Let's just hope Fox goes down the toilet and eats itself because they are really good at canceling the best shows and keeping the worst crap ever created last countless seasons (sorry matt groening but the only reason the simpsons are still around is because the show turned to crap). Firefly, Fringe and Futurama are a few I can name. SyFy also has a good history of crappy stuff but lets hope Defiance stays because it's starting to look like an incredible show and the game will only last as long as the show.

Consoles already have a larger player base then the PC does, this is why the PC script kiddies hate us, simply because a Console which costs less and has limited technology (for now) out shines the 'Master Race'. Not for performance but for convenience, the PS3 is right up there also. Obviously some people are going to disagree but I digress.

As someone else mentioned earlier about the size of the map in Defiance, it's obviously going to expland due to the mass of space you can see when viewing it. I do think the Volge will make an appearance at some point also.

To be honest, i don't see this game lasting for over 3yrs.
    (hope i'm wrong)

Reason being is, at this point, it just seems like a medicore Borderlands 3ps.
That, and since the MMO aspect is missing with player interactions etc. May as well just throw it in the line up with other medicore 3ps games. Hence, i don't see the longevity of the game.

Well I have seen quite a few threads on this issue here recently. I love this game. It has amazing potential. However I think a few things need to happen to ensure it's success.

    1. Coincide with the show. If we start having DLC that coincides with that season would be a tremendous boost to game play. Peeps will feel that every Monday night they will learn and advance their toons a little more.
    2. They will need some other form of income to maintain a basically free to play game. Like bits for outfits...bits for uniques...anything they can do to earn MS points. Take a lesson from god awful stuff like Evony. People are vain about their toons and will pay ungodly sums to make them look"cool". Development isn't cheap and I think if they get this sooner rather than later we will see better results.
    3. Most importantly really is FIX SOCIAL...Peeps like to play with peeps...And talk to them. We will over look alot of funkyness just as long as we can share said funkyness.
    4. OHHHHH AND YOU ***** NEED TO QUIT KEEPING CRITICAL DATA CLIENT SIDE. THE PERSON WHO DECIDED THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN OUTBACK AND SHOT. HACKER INVASION STOPPED....I want a medal...lol

We are a fickle group of people constantly looking for a new fix. Some may stay but newer games and experiences will tempt us all.
Defiance is groundbreaking for 360 owners. So whats to come from other developers? Right now I can name at least two new mmo's

On the used game shelf at Gamestop. There's not that many people playing it now, it only sold 275k on xbox360 and they probably lost at least half by now. The next major release will probably knock the playing population down to just the suckers who bought the season pass.

Yeah, I'm of the opinion that it will all depend on the released content. Doing little things as the TV Series goes by is neat and all, but if it is just a few little fetch quests, handful of missions, it won't be enough to keep people playing. Myself? I've already completed the main storyline, and about halfway through with the other side missions. Sure, there are time trials and hotshots to gold, but I like story.

More storylines, maybe an area specifically designed for those hardcore players that are looking for more of a challenge, could go quite a ways in keeping interest. Crafting could be something, they do have that Gulanite...of whatever it is. Players could spend time mining if that's their thing.

But hey, I'm still having fun, and I'll keep playing while it's fun for me. I don't trade away games, so I can always pop back on and see what all's going on.

May your bullets and scrip always be plentiful.
