So there's another "huge" patch coming at the end of the month?
So I've seen a few posts saying there is a huge patch coming at the end of the month now and they are banking on that to be the saving grace for what's going on. Sounds like last patch deja vu to me but regardless, my main question is why are they waiting weeks to compile monster sized patches instead of just releasing smaller patches and hotfixes to address issues sooner? Huge patches just tend to create a lot of problems in game anyway when all that stuff hits at once. Plus I'm sure plenty of people would be happy to have some smaller issues, or even one or two big ones, hit with a small patch instead of having to wait weeks for the fixes. ESPECIALLY on the release of a game when an mmo nees the most attention and in a quick fasion. They need to take a hint from their brothers across the street working on RIFT, look at the patch dates here:

The only information we've gotten is some sort of new content is coming the 29th, though The New Trion's definition of "content" is paper lanterns and fireworks.

We also know the previous plans were two bugfix patches biweekly, followed by the first DLC two weeks after that. If those old plans still hold true, we'll see the second bugfix patch the 29th.

I'm personally expecting more paper lanterns, but I'd love Trion to make a fool of me for expecting so little.

I hope not that was an extremely lame *** update patch. It really did kick allot of ppl who thought it would be a beefy piece of content right in the teeth.

So their plan was to have bug fix patches ever 2 weeks on a game launch? That makes zero sense, especially considering how buggy this game is. I could see every 2 weeks once things settle down and the game gets more stable without as many glaringly big issues, but not in this situation.

Smaller server-side fixes are more frequent, but the big client-side bugfixes were originally slated to be biweekly.

We'll know if they can back their bark next week.

heres hoping they add stuff to the game that actually makes you belive your playing an mmo game....to me the game feels like a bunch of people playing a game through a private server, the mmo feeling is lacking in this game, something just feels off for me

It looks that way because Rift is actually a good game so they support it.

Go ask Sony and MS ... they limit the frequency of client side patches.
This would've been so much more awesome as a PC only release in so many ways.

I'm not blaming the console players, you suffer just as we do, but consoles hinder the games evolution.

The "huge patch" is for PS3. it's a partially fixed version of the mess PC an XBox got last week

Technically MMO means massively multiplayer online... soooo technically by your own definition "bunch of people playing a game through a private server" it meets all the criteria of a mmo. People need to stop trying to attribute or expect mmoRPG qualities to the game. Its not one, it doesn't even bill itself as one. Its a mmoTPS.

Oh. Then give me decent co-op content that isn't a faceroll. Like many TPS games are known for.

Oh god, here we go again. Thanks for your useless comment, explaining what MMO stands for.
Despite your argument, many people think of something else when talking about an MMO. They think of all the games everyone associates when talking about an MMO.
What is so hard to understand, Shada Mori

Just because you think it, doesn't make it correct. *shrugs* Maybe if more people took the definition at what it actually means, they wouldn't be disappointed with what they get. Placing incorrect expectations on things usually leads to that. Just saying.

The horizon behind you. Iceberg has already been hit, this game is slowly taking on water.

So platforms are only patched simultaneously? Are their separate teams dedicated to each platform or are xbox360 and PC client being combined and if there are problems they'll just show up after being implemented?

Has their been an mentions of PC only bug fixes or PC only features coming?

Some Guy At Trion mentioned improved chat for PC, but of course we have no timeframe. Same with PC-only graphical options.

Patch in a week with improvements and fixes (the one we got on the 16th)

Patch about 2 weeks after that with more improvements and fixes

If this still holds true then that puts the second patch at sometime next week,i guess some are assuming it will be the 29th because thats when the PS3 gets patched.

I would just like to see existing content back in the farking game, namely FREIGHT. They need to get that map back in the game before fussing with new content.

You are overcomplicating RPG in much the same way others overcomplicate MMO. This may not be the most in depth RPG out there, but it is definitely an RPG. An MMOTPSRPG with racing and platforming elements, god awful platforming elements. Worst ****ing side quests ever after roll the balls up the hill in Okami.

I'll ask again, since no one seemed to have noticed the link I posted that points to the announcement of server side work done for PC & xbox on monday. Are we sure there's patch 2 coming?
Does anyone have any information that doesn't point into the opposite direction?

PC specific graphic options ... I wouldn't hold my breath and seriously doubt we'll see anthing of the sorts before the 5 DLC are completed.

I think a few people are reading that 6 upside down and seeing 29th,that post is just another of the daily server updates.I'm guessing it was just basic server stuff since it is longer than the restarts but has no patch note.As i posted earlier,we should see the second patch at some point next week if the plan hasn't changed.Since nothing has been mentioned about a hard date or content of the patch yet i fear it may have been delayed.

You hit the nail on the head. There is a reason why games like TF2 get daily patches while even MMOs like DCUO Online (PS3) only get one every week, maximum.

Equating a series of hotfixes with patching a buggy as hell incomplete game into a complete game is equivocation at its finest. Also with frequent large patches planned out other than emergency hotfixes they shouldn't be expected to release numerous hotfixes because doing so creates a greater chance for redundancy/resurgence of old bugs in the major patches.

i think by "huge" patch they mean the size of the patch files not that it corrects an "huge" amount of bugs or adds an "huge" amount off content or that it changes an "huge" amount of anything, i mean the last patch was almost 4GB with nothing really to show for it, nothing much was added to the map, corrected some bugs but added a ton more, added a few things for the celebration, hardly what you expect for a 4GB patch.

I think they ended up replacing a lot of files, rather than adding extra content. The actual game ended up being only around 400mb larger after the patch.

Ok ... you really just blew the damn lod off.
The patch was mostly bug fixes. How the **** do you think bug fixes work? A new file for each fix or what?
