What MMO's did you play prior to Defiance?
Just a thread about what other games you played or still play before making the switch.
    Personally I played;
    - WoW (Still dabble these days)
    - FFXI
    - SwtOR
    - GW2
    - Runescape (a long time ago :P)

I play Rift and Champions Online (which I fled to after City of Heroes shut down.) I have tried both version of Guild Wars, DC Universe Online, Star Trek Online (and man do I regret that one...) and a few others. I used to play Warcraft but while I liked the game, I despise Blizzard and eventually I made the choice to just stop giving them money.

I always considered Rift but never actually got it. I didn't enjoy Guild Wars 2 much, not sure why. Star Trek really that bad?
Blizzard have managed to snooker their players, they've made what some people call the best MMO out there which people thoroughly enjoy, but they charge extortionate amounts for just about everything.

RuneScape - went no-life on it until about 2009 when I started not caring for it at all. Still played it on and off until they released that EoC thing.
GW2 - no-lifed until level 80, couldn't be bothered to make another character.

Tried my hand at a game called Sword of the new world, also some game similar to it called Hero or something like that.

Well, it's a game of great ideas, but none of them have been put together very well, and the whole thing feels very, very clunky. I had high hopes for it because I love Star Trek and I loved City of Heroes, but it doesn't flow very well, it looks... not so good, and the constant 'OH HEY BUY THIS' messages really break any kind of game immersion. The most fun I had was designing my character. Everything from that point on went down hill fast.

And I agree with you about Blizzard. I also had huge issues with their approach to customer complaints, but that's another long story, and ultimately comes down to 'they pissed me off and I'm still bitter about it'.

Real shame, love Star Trek. But a lot of games seem to fall over from rushing these days.
I know a lot of people that feel the way you do about Blizzard, I'm just waiting for my turn to be honest.

I played WoW and Rift before I got bored and took a break from those. I've tried GW2 but didn't really get too into it. Tried Star Trek Online but I didn't like it either for reasons already mentioned. I still play Secret World which is my top MMO at the moment.

I'm an old schooler - my first MMO was UO for 6 years. I stayed away from mmo's for awhile then went back and got into Neverwinter Nights - not really an mmo but lots of fun with the mods people were creating.

Then Vanguard - been there for 6 years now, still there as well. Tried GW 1 didn't like it, did beta for Rift didn't like it either.

Played Eq 2 the free one, not really impressed with it.

Wow, is way too "cartoony" for my tastes.

Unfortunately, there isn't much more I'm interested in any more so here I am trying a new type of game.

I've never played an MMO prior Defiance, nor any large scale MP games. Largest one I suppose was Homeworld way back in the mid to late 90's back when Sierra still owned them. Now I've heard that Gearbox bought the franchise and has planned on reduxing it and re-releasing it, which I'm very excited about. I still have a burned CD of the game, just need a key code for it. xD

I'm liking what I see of Defiance so far. Just wish there was more socializing. =/

I wouldn't get too excited over Gearbox owning that IP to produce a game. They funneled Sega's money to make Aliens: Colonial Marines to build borderlands DLC and borderlands 2 then paid another company to make A:CM. What we got as a result of that was insulting to the cannon for Aliens. It became fairly obvious once we all got the game to play that something was amiss. The E3 Demo video of the game looked amazing. What we got as a finished product looked like a 5-6 year old game. Looking thru the config files I noticed that there wasn't a video card on the compatibility list that was newer than 5 years ago. Most people that bought it felt completely screwed by GB. Most will probably never buy another GB product. I know that I won't as long as Randy is in charge of that company.

Rift 2 year and tried SWTOR, TSW. I would be still playing Rift but gotta say Elder Scroll Online is just too awesome. Hmm. I still play Planetside 2, probably 400 hour played, but not even nearly what Ive spent in Rift. Also Darkfall, but its something I play more casually.

No one for The Matrix Online? :)

I've played lots of niche ones like Ragnarok Online (I tried 2 and it was so bad) and Neocron back in the day. Neocron was really awesome. Like Defiance, everything was aim and shoot but it was an FPS. Amazing PvP and atmosphere for its time.

Some more notable ones I've played would be SWG, TOR, and GW2. Never got into WoW (thank god).

Next MMO I'm looking forward to would be ESO.

I've played way too many to count, propably around 30. But the only ones I've actually spent much time in are GW(3400h) and GW2(800h), others I quit within 200-400h.
