Planetside 2 is Starship Troopers.

Sad I dont get much vibes not even sci-fi vibes, what kinda bothers me, I suppose I'd love to see some high-tech stuff. Nevertheless Im sure this is fun game to play at least 2 month, or who knows maybe I find myself here even after 2 year like Rift. I actually hope theres some survival elements in this game.

    Hopefully they capture the feeling
If they manage to capture the feeling of starship troopers in Base Defence and giant bug battles I'll be totally staisfied! For me the cooperative battling of giant bugs while advancing your character rpg-style is the reason for buying this game...

Personally I think it is great that they try to use the advanced alien tech scarcely because at heart Defiance seems to be a post-apocalyptic setting. It really helps the roleplaying experience if you start off weakly armed and slowly gather better and better weapons. For those of you who are from my generation remember Fallout 2 where you started as a stone-aged cave man with a stick and ended the game with a portable launcher for nukes.

I loved Starship Troopers! Also I must agree, when I first saw some footage from the Hellbugs, ST was the first thing I thought of and I had the biggest grin on my face.

Im usually more of a competitive MP guy but the co-op stuff looks pretty damn cool in this game. Not really 100% up to date on my Defiance info, have they released any details or video of the competitive PVP side of the game?

Yes! They have a few videos on the Trion twitch.tv site. Shadow War is the game 'type' they were showing off, looks like all sorts of fun and madness. Up to 96 players in a match, the workings about it are really cool too. Just watch the video!

I would provide a link for you but Twitch.tv is blocked at work.

Watched the Shadow War Dev Diary and while the scope and look of the game universe, along with the immense player count, was impressive, I was a little confused at what the actual objective is. It seems like a giant random game of TDM.

Also one dev mentioned how players doing co-op mission can see players engaged in a PVP fight and are able to jump right in from their co-op experience. I hope it doesnt work the other way around because it would be quite frustrating having random players kill or harass you when you're focused on completing a co-op mission. Or is that how it is in MMOs in general? Im a bit new to the genre.

I can see the Starship Trooper influence, but since the first promo, I've only gotten a Western frontier vibe to the game/ show
