There are some hit box detection issues that get exaggerated for some reason if you put a scope mod on. They are still there without one but manageable. Biggest problem is draw distance and map design. The sniper spots are so obvious on the TDM maps that going to them is just asking to get cloak shotgunned in the back. So like a few have said you have to get good at the quick medium range shots. Camping the hallways on observatory is good for this.

But I don't know what they are talking about quick scoping as it doesn't exist in defiance, at least in the COD, Halo, BF, etc. Sense. Half the time my hip fire reticle doesn't line up with my scope cross hairs, assuming this is some sort of TPS thing that throws it off depending on how I'm moving which may give a weird angle, so it does require a quick adjustment.

Not in most TPS. In TPS bolt sniper is usually 2 shots kill, reason being 1 shot kill is too low and really gives no chance of fighting back.

You are talking about FPS, which is different from TPS.

TPS sniping also plays a lot differently than FPS. You do not need to land clean because the drawing distance of the game is usually shorter so there is no point at waiting for the perfect shoot, just as long as to are pretty much lined up you can fire. You are better off at just hit and move.

Yeah, I'm not sure what ncanning is talking about with the low ammo thing. I never run out of ammo, simply because I'm usually dead before the clip ends or I go to an ammo box. Maybe in Shadow Wars?

    I Agree with VolDeVie

I don't agree with the auto sniper as it's a nub's sniper. Bolt Action > Auto Sniper

Take a look at my video.. might help change your mind haha.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VueTGZ4ASHo

Shotty kills in a montage? Really? lol

Those were some nice shots but again it's a montage. If I recorded myself and edited the best shots I've taken I could make a similar video.

I'm not saying sniping is useless, but it's far from fine. I think until Trion actually starts fixing this game with all the hackers we can't really make many balance changes. Perhaps my shot was directed at a hacker who modified his shield or health stats. If it wasn't a hacker, maybe he would have died. Who knows.

Which games are those? I'm not saying you're wrong, I just want to know. There's not many TPS games out there to begin with. The most popular ones I've played recently were the Gears of War series and the Longshot is definitely OHK on headshots.

Very few left? How do you know? lol

I understand someone can have a great shield and be loaded with defensive perks, they still shouldn't survive a Overcharged headshot.

Gears of War is not a true persistent multiplayer TPS.

Only games like Global Agenda, APB or GunZ are in any way similar to Defiance (as in true MMOTPS)... and I'm pretty sure neither Global Agenda and APB has any 1 shot kill weaps.

I think it might be because of both draw distance (usually TPS don't draw any further than 100m) and significant pint-of-view advantages (TPS can for more allow for effective camping than FPS due to overhead angles).

I play a lot of PvP when I'm getting drunk. Always keep a badass shotgun with me and a bolt action as my secondary. I can't recall not getting a OHK when getting a headshot. Only problem is hit boxes but usually the person is stupid and continues to stand still.

I do wish there were more snipers on enemy teams but once in awhile there will be a good sniper duel.

    General Problems:

Draw Distance. For character models it's 80 meters. Vehicles about 100 meters. Makes "sniping" pretty pointless, when you can only see your targets when already in AR range. Mostly a problem in Shadow Wars, which is why I will mention it again.

Aim Acceleration while ADS. The jump between "barely moving the reticule" to "turning quickly" is too quick, the area in between too small. All the acceleration seems to happen in the first 20% of moving the stick in a direction and stays constant thereafter. It's something you have to get used to in order to quickly and accurately adjust your aim.

Scope Mods are bugged ATM, the decrease accuracy instead of increasing it. That's not the sniper's fault, just FYI, if you SR has a scope mod, you've probably noticed a problem by now.

Defensive Perks that "catch" damage. I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think the "50% less damage for 3 seconds after Shield Breaks" actually catches half the bullet damage in a critical hit with a sniper after the shield damage is subtracted. If your SR does 3500 on a critical hit, the enemy has a 1600 shield and the mentioned perk, the shield will break, but the perk will kick in then, turning the 1900 rest damage into 950.

    Problems for Shadow Wars:

Draw Distance. For character models it's 80 meters. Vehicles about 100 meters. Makes "sniping" pretty pointless, when you can only see your targets when already in AR range.

Hit Detection. Either lag or just bad detection is often a problem.

    Problems for PvP Competitive Maps:

Map Design: Sniper Spots are too obvious and too easily and quickly reached by enemies. Both maps are really small for sniping, and seem focused on CQC combat. Unless you get people standing still or moving in straight lines a Battle Rifle is much handier and effective.

Game Mode: TDM has no objective with a specific location - no, the hallway on Observatory does not count as an objective. With Capture and Hold hopefully coming back, and hopefully featuring a bigger draw-distance due to not being in the Overworld like Shadow Wars, I expect more effective sniping there.

Overall, I find sniping in PvP more effective with the Semi-Auto Sniper, simply due to the fact that on Xbox in about 50 matches on Competitive Maps, I have only once, one single time, seen a dedicated sniper. Sniping is not really viable if everyone is running around with Cloaked Shotguns, or the possible Sniping locations are basically in Infector Auto-Aim Range from pretty much everywhere on the map.

My main problem in Shadow Wars is the very limited draw distance. If you can't see your target from more than 80 meters, how are you supposed to be that "Invisible Killer from Afar", one shot, one kill and all that? A semi-auto SR can give you at least some mid-range combat capability as opposed to trying to nail three bunny hopping shotgunners with headshots at 50 feet.

Are u using a modded scope?

I had this problem till I found out the scope mods wer bugged. Somthing to do with +/- accuracy - being better.
I notice sniper scope mods had changed from + accuracy to - after the last update, but wen I tried one shooting it at a point on a wall 1in 3 shots would still go no way near wer I was aiming.

Just stick with the defult scope till trion sort it out

I mean, seriously? If you want people to start using other weapons, don't nerf powerful weapons, BUFF THE WEAK WEAPONS. There's no auto aim on PvP, so headshots actually take some skill. A Bolt Action Sniper Rifle should always be a OHK with a headshot, you know, like every other freakin' shooter out there.

I agree 100%, Sniping takes skill and I use this as my secondary in PvP for campers or open players across the map. I posted here being descriptive with my frustration: http://forums.defiance.com/showthrea...254#post458254.

You use a weapon that takes skill, line up the perfect shot and the result is 100% of shield down and 30% of players life? 3 sec later i'm awarded an assist... really. I'm either doing something wrong or a I suck with my loadout. I would prefer using this rather than spamming an infector or detonator. Game lacks reward for better players
